Thank you so much, I was so confused and your video helped so much, now I understand it better and clear! Why don’t lecturers say so?? They confused us so much!! Thanks though!🤗
what’s the difference between a confounding and extraneous variable? Or are they the same thing? Caus I looked it up and I can’t find a clear difference
A confounding variable is an extraneous variable that has managed to effect the dependent variable and the results of the experiment because it has not been controlled. e.g situational variables, participant variables, investigator effects and demand characteristics are all extraneous variables that have the potential to effect the results of the experiment. If they are not controlled however, they become confounding variables. Hope this helps.
So extraneous variable are variables that can be changed, but confounding variables are found out after the experiment is done, hence cannot be changed?
See that's what I'm confused about too. My professor wants us to take 2 scenarios and identify a possible extraneous variable and a possible confounding variable. That doesn't make sense at all to me because aren't all of the "possibles" extraneous? It can't be confounding unless it's proven to have an effect
Finally I know the difference between confounding variables and extraneous variables! Thanks :)
@javeed rahman Confounding variables are extraneous variables that impact your results.
They're the same nah?
