- In this video, Dr. Kushner outlines how to conduct a psychology experiment. The experimental method is a powerful tool for psychologists because it is the only research design that can determine a cause and effect relationship between two variables.

Really appreciate this video. Reading lecture notes was difficult to comprehend till i went through this. Simplified and very clear. Thanks a million
this is very clear and understandable, thank you so much for your videos!! i'm here because of my experimental research class and now i have better understanding of what i'm studying now :)
I wish you were my lecturer!! You make everything so much easier than mine, I have ZERO clue what mine is even saying!! Thank you so much
Thank you for the kind words! Glad I could help.
Thank you so much for these helpful videos! Amazing teacher!

Hi there! Great video! I am glad to find this video because I am about to do this kind of study for my bachelor thesis. May I know what is extraneous variable for this study? is it like the tempo/rhythm/ volume/ major or minor key of the music that would be play each experimental group?
And also, do I need to do a survey on what type (genre) of music from my population before I assign each experimental group so they would "engaged" themselves with the music and also to be more precise to compare with the control group?
I hope you (or any of the viewer watch this video) can help me answer these questions. Thank you!
Thanks a lot bro, keep making more videos👍👍
Thank you, I will
Wonderful! Thanks a lot :)
OMG this vid is much easier to understand. tnx mwah

Thank you! Cheers!
Best explanation videos ever😃
Yay 😁
thanks
thanks alot
Very very very well explained 👏
Glad it helped 🧠🧠🧠🧠
Hi Dr, how do you determine your sample size in this kind of study? Tq.
Great explanasion
Glad you think so!
Watching this 30mins before an exam😄
Best of luck 🤞
@@PsychExplained and I swear to you they brought a question on this. I wrote your content word for word, even drew the diagrams🤣🤣
Can you explain, what if I have 3 groups of participants, and they all have different controls, ie performance is depending on whether they've had a poor breakfast, ave breakfast and good breakfast? Which are the variables? Which is controlled? How do I split this into iv and dv?
Any chance of getting CC on this video. I would like to link to it for my class but need CC.
Let me try! I know you can play the video while a google doc is open and click “voice typing” under Tools. It will transcribe into text for your students.
Hi, could I ask, if a study involves letting participant watch a video of a well dressed person, and a second video of a causally dressed person, and getting them to select which person they find more trustworthy.
If the hypothesis is that people would find the well dressed person more trustworthy,
Would this entire study be considered an experimental study?
Great question! I think you have a great study. And it has the potential to be classified as an experiment. A few questions - what is the IV and DV? what is the control group? What is the Experimental group? How are you going to keep all variables constant except for “dress”?
perfect
😇
when you are talking about same - room, temp etc. what about age, gender, education background, how could we randomly select those? thank you very much!
Great question. The purpose of random assignment is to account for these individual differences (age, gender). If you have a large enough sample, use random assignment, and create a well-designed rigorous study, these differences (income, education background) should not affect the outcome. Side note - you can’t really randomize “gender” because subjects are born male or female…
However, you can do “stratified sampling” to make sure all ages, races, etc. are accounted for. I have a video called Sampling that explains this process.
Sir ,I know that human brain has no nociceptor.
But if I ask you this - If someone touches my brain gently, will I be able to feel that?
is it necessary both the groups have same no of participants?
Yes, or at least very close
can difference in differences be used in such an experiment?
I’m sorry I’m not following your question
how do i transcribe this
Hi! You can tap the “CC” closed caption icon
@@PsychExplained i was talking about something else but i already found it, thank you tho♡
Please what about extraneous variable?
Are you referring to extraneous (confounding) variables that may occur in the present study on studying and background music?
@@PsychExplained Yes please
@@PsychExplained sorry for the late reply I had some issues with my phone 🙏
Is this not the issue of where we have so little understanding about the brain, that we do these kind of tests but then do not back it up with conversations with the people? using music as example, in many of these kind of tests the group is not asked after, did they like this kind of music etc. I ask this because I am doing my own case study that we miss so much conversation (subjective) study when it comes to what we know right now and teach others within mental health and disorders. would like to have contact if possible based on your work, I am very thankful you share this work for others to learn.
I love u 😍
Thanks a lot for your hard work . I am watching you from saudi arabia 🫡
Welcome to my channel! 😁
