Not talkative? Well apparently my wegie is defective then, he never shuts up! 😂
Really? That piques my interest. I was tossing up between a Maine Coon and this wonderful Kitty cat.
I would like a conversational but cool Kitty.
@@jamiedawe1758 I had a coon and he was a big talker and loved to sleep on my lap, now I have a couple Norwegians and neither one makes a sound. They are from the same litter and one sleeps on my lap and the other won’t even sit on my lap for a second.
Interesting.
I am considering a Wegie as a companion for my Norwegian Elkhound. Moosedogs are reputed to be very vocal to be heard from one end of the fjord to the other, but 'Dash is more quiet than most of his predecessors.
'Dash is very smart and a cuddler fifty-pound companion dog, as were his great-great-grandmother and her great-aunt, but the bitches were quite talkative.
Like I need another lap robe that sheds?
Mine chatters but doesn’t meow. Quite charming!!
Mine too. We have full blown conversation lol. Cheers
I rescued a poor kitty that was abandoned in an apartment complex. Stressed, partially bald, & ribs sticking out. I did not want this cat, but I couldn't leave it. It took no time at all to fall in love with his unique personality. I marvel at some of his unusual tendencies, like the fact that he loves water & plays in it, loves to sit on the edge of the tub when I take a bath, loves to be held & rocked as he literally snuggles his head under my chin for cuddles, & chases his tail! Within 8 months, he was 19.7 lbs, & I knew he was something special, but could tell he was not Main Coon. What do you know? I have a Norwegian Forest cat! He appears to be 100%, although I have no papers obviously....& it doesn't matter to me, he's one of a kind, a complete gem! I want another one!!! Thanks for the video! 😺
Tomorow my friend is going to rescue a norwegian forest cat who is in the same situation as you describe your rescue, his name is Bumper and is 10yrs old, that's all we know about him. I said i would take him in. Is there something i should know upfront to get him the best help he deserves? (i will see a vet rightaway ofcouse) But i'm just a little unsure how to help him settle in, always had dogs haha...Greetings from The Netherlands!
Mine would hug me and press his nose on mine giving kisses. I adopted him when he was about a year. It’s important to brush the undercoat.
I love that 😊, my big boy just passed but he hugged me every night, I have pics of him doing it, my wife got me a canvas picture of him holding me for a Xmas present one year, I sure miss my Toby 😢
I concur! I have to brush him more than once a week & be careful that the undercoat doesn't begin to clump or he gets matting that has to be cut out.
me too mines two months old she’s lovely
I had a white one with blue eyes. Prettiest cat I ever saw. He would refuse to sleep in the house in winter time. He liked to curl up on a patio chair on the deck with his tail covering his nose and mouth. Did not seem to matter how cold it was outside. In the summer he liked to be inside during the heat of the day. He was a great cat.
I tried to brush every day, and I never trimmed claws. He did it himself using trees in the back yard. The tree method is very affective.
As nature intended 😼
As a kid, we had a Norwegian mix. This was 1979. No one knew what breed he was at the time, but now we know! The best cat for a kid. He was a great hunter (like his mom), great climber, very lovable and over 30lbs. Miss him still.
Mines 19 and a few months i didnt know her breed until the vet told me. Shes got an extremely loving and loyal nature. An amazing cat. She loves attention and closeness. A beautiful looking cat if i do say so
I had a Norwegian forest cat that was grey with a lighter chest and under belly and he was a bobtail. I found him when he was young and we bonded. We were very close. I loved him
More than some of my relatives. He was by my side for 14 years till he passed across the rainbow bridge about a month ago. I still cry and miss my lil buddy even though I'm 70 yrs old.
❤❤your little buddy sounds like a lovely soul
@@Flanneryschickens he was thank you
My neighbor has a black Norwegian Forest. He's the most beautiful, friendliest cat.
I had one when I was a kid. He was a very independent animal that came and went as it pleased him. He was very territorial and defended his territory against other cats. His face and ears had many scars from numerous fights with other cats in the neighborhood. There was zero maintenance issues with him since he took care of that himself. Still he loved to cuddle but only as long as it pleased him. In the summer we often got guests and during that period he could be gone for days. I still miss that grey cat.
He had that classic grey fur with some white spots. The cats around now are mostly black and white. By the way our neighbor had a all white cat that might have been the offspring of mine.😊😊😊
My brother had a tabby Wegie named Steve. Steve was 100% convinced that his entire purpose on this Earth was to be adored. He trilled pretty much non-stop and was the most cuddly boi ever. Everybody who knew him was devastated when he went to the Bridge.
I have a Wegie named Khan. He’s exactly the same. Jumps in strangers laps and hugs them around the neck and demands to be held tight and snuggled. I love him so much. Going to pet him extra long tonight because of this.
Such pretty, smart and lovely cats.
I have a Norwegian Barn Cat. Don't know the Norway part but she was born in a barn. Better treats in the house so she moved out of the barn and on to the counter.
Best most intelligent cat I've ever had
Our 7kg Norweigan dominated the 8kg British Shorthair we had, they were quite aggressive, but also very affectionate. They are very intelligent and very loyal.
I will forever claim that cats are smarter than dogs. Its obvious to anyone who lived with both.
Mines a guard kitty, she needs her windows to keep an eye on the place. 😂
We had a mice problem in our old house. I set out traps every day and got nothing. My Wegie, Maxwell, killed 13 of them! He basically ended our mice problem single handedly. The funny part is that after every kill he would bring the dead mouse to me with its little mouse tail sticking out of Max's mouth. I would take it from him and dispose of it in the trash.
As an owner of one of these beauties I realised that Norwegian forest cats might be introverted at first but once they get used to you they become your best friend forever. I own a 16 yr old Norwegian forest cat with a very shy yet playful personality, I still remember the day I first got her when she was a fluffy baby :3
Hi! Your cat sounds lovely. Does she have another companion or is she the only pet you have? I've been thinking about getting a wedgie but I can only afford a single pet right now so I'm worried about how they cope when I have to be outside everyday during the day.
Thank you for the awesome video, I always wanted a Norwegian Forest cat and surprisingly recently someone dumped one near my apartment and she found us. She does have a respiratory infection right now but is getting better! Thank you for all the helpful advice!
You're welcome! Glad that you found the video helpful! 😺
@@Cat_Nation I can't wait for mine to get bigger!
Congratulations in my opinion Norwegian forest cats are by far the prettiest cats out there Maine coons have nicer for but they have this ugly sort of fat face whereas Norwegian forest cat have a beautiful model triangular face I also think they are larger on average so for me larger is better because they are closer to a tiger and a lot more to grab onto I have had to Norwegian forest cats and they were both super super super sweet and Angels even though they were hunters and strong cats that other cats and prey didn’t mess with they are just a perfectly balanced cat in terms of looks and personality you are very lucky to find one I found mine In the same way and I am so lucky to find her she’s the most beautiful cat of her color in the world I can’t find a more beautiful cat on Google images
How is your Wegie doing? Aren't they wonderful?
@@debs.9612 she's doing lovely 🥰
I got one of these cats completely by accident. She was abandoned by her previous owner and looked completely homeless. I got her at the pound for $50 clearance, cleaned her up and 3 months later I had a gorgeous furry princess. Bianca and me are very happy.
They look so regal with all that luxurious floof! 😁🥰🤗😍
My wife and I were super lucky and adopted a black, 2 year old Norwegian forest cat named Hershey last year. He's one of the best companions you could ever ask for.
One other fun fact. Their claws are way sturdier and sharper than most cats, and it can climb down a tree headfirst, they can also climb slippery rocks like a champ.
My lovely boy is an 8 month old rescue cat. He loves other cats but is very wary of people.
I've finally been able to pat him after 3 months but no-one else can.
He's very vocal with an amazing variety of trills and chirrups but doesn't miaow.
He is very active and loves his toys and climbing cat tree.
He's got very large paws, a massive tail, long tufts on his ears and is over 2ft long but is still a bit underweight.
I feed him 3 small meals a day as he can't eat much in one sitting.
He's very different to any other cat I've ever had and I love his unique quirks like playing with water and eating with his paws.
I've just bought him a water fountain that fascinates him.
He's a wonderful addition to the family..
Sorta favors my sweet little Sofia CAT ! Sofia is on the small size ! She was abandoned( ?) when she was a tiny kitten ,barely had her eyes opened! A lady brought her to me said she knew I would know how to care for her ! I found the Cat Lady’s channel and learned how to care for a kitten that young ! Very very informative information! Sofia is my friend ,I love ❤️ her sooo much !
U r great 👍
Since they are mentioned in Nordic Mythology it's not likely that the Vikings brought them home from the British Isle, they probably been around for longer then that. 10.000 years ago there were dry land between Britain and Mainland Europa. The resemblence between Main Coons and Forest cats are most likely to be that the MC is a breed between Forest Cats and some native Americans cats, perhaps the Bobcat, wich would explain theire pointy ears and size!
It isn't even confirmed if bobcats can breed with cats but that would be interesting.
Good one, missed the FACT that they are the only dom. cat that climb head down first, from trees or whatever they find amused by climbing. 😉😻🐈
🙋🐈⬛💖
Just a question must crossed with the siberian cat no
@@vernonalexis704 sorry, did not understand 🤔Must be crossed with siberian cat ..... to do what?
My wegie loves climbing tall trees headfirst up and down. He is already a big kitty with a year and a half of growth left.
@@LeNaSmileyStar looks like the Norwegian and Sibirian are family members 😉 I feel that too ☺️
i’m from alaska and found my sweet Clementine outside and immediately brought her in!! I was impressed with her survival in -10 F, but after watching this video it makes a lot of sense!
My guy is 6 years old, 20 pounds and can jump 7 feet. He hardly ever talks, but when he does… it is the most precious meow I have ever heard.
I found my Norwegian mix on the streets, and I love every day I have her. She comes sleep with us and even greets us everyday at the door when we come back home from work ♥
She is amazingly affectionate, not quite on the lap, but will follow me and my wife to any place on the house.
Bangee just turned 20 he runs around playing like a Kitten he's big and burly and he's such a gentleman to I love the new agents Forest cats I recommend them to anyone
We has to put our beloved forest cat down just recently. Devastating as such a big part of the family. In a few months we are getting a norwegian kitten, just love the big fluffy Viking cats.
I have a gorgeous 13 year old Norwegian Forest Cat. I am 66 and have had cats all my life, many different breeds, but my NFC is the most exceptional. He is very dog like, and walks on a leash. Most NFC owners say they never want any other breed after owning a weggie.
Propably a winner in the latest fair ball cuteness olympiad.
I rescued twin kittens and had them for almost 17 years without knowing they were Norwegian forest cats that whole time. Elvis and Priscilla. They were the sweetest.
I’ve had one for the last 10 years best cat I’ve ever owned and she chose me as it’s was a rescue cat as she came up to me , the carer said your the first man I’ve seen her go near
I had a Norwegian Forest cat. She talked very little. Only squeaks now and then. She was a huge cat. So beautiful. She demanded brushing every day. Unfortunately, she became over weight and had a likely heart attack and had to be put down. I really miss her.
Such beautiful cats.
Beautiful...just beautiful 🥰
They are beautiful and wonderful cats, I wish I could have one!
Our boy Larry sounded like he was gargling when he meowed
We have two purebred wedgies, they are wonderful and so beautiful. They are the most amazing shedders though, Persian have nothing on them in that respect. No matter how much you brush them they shed like crazy. They are affectionate and playful.
They look so beautiful and majestic
- Haha... I brush Charlie EVERY day.... and, he loves it!
They're great cats .
Have a beautiful grey Norwegian he's a rambunctious ball of fur .
I am not a cat person...just afraid of them, but this cat is stunning 😍
I had one just like this one but never knew what it's mixed was. It was a big cat, long, and the hair and body just like this one. I knew the mother was a calico, which was a large cat in itself. I thought it was a Maine Coon mix then, but now mine looked just like this kind. He was so passive and loving. He would always stay with my disabled mom.
My cat is a rescue She appeared to be a tuxedo cat Once we got her healthy She grew in her undercoat Vet didn't recognize her ! She's about 7 now and 12 fluffy lbs . She's a very good mouser and misses the garage at my former home. She's quite the talker ! A couple years ago she managed to injure her back leg She was in a lot of pain The vet gave us meds and ordered no more jumping So we got a small scratch post She does enjoy our balcony and watching birds and children get on the bus . We do try to ration her food and she needs lots of grooming. She has all characteristics of a wedgie Shape of face furry ears and toes ! She's the sweetest smartest cat I've had She loves spending time with me as long as I'm not vacuuming Her ears are sensitive to loud noise She also loves soft smooshy throws and blankets . Her eyes are a beautiful green color . She still likes to play with new toys but mice are her favorite!
"They're wonderful mousers."
"Do not leave them alone with pet mice."
Are there really people that stupid? Well, probably.
Mine doesn't purr, but has chirped when happy.
As a 6 week kitten, his family was found living in/outside a city dumpster. He sits on my chest when he wants to be lightly brushed, then disappears
We just got a cat December 23rd, we think shes a Norwegian mix. We think she's got some minuette/Napoleon in her. She runs, plays, rolls and snuggles just like a Norwegian, and just a touch feisty. 3 years old, 12 pounds already. Only thing is her muzzle is a little flatter than other Norwegians. But she's soooooo soft.
I have a Wegie named Maxwell Smart. He has the most amazing coat. It has two layers. The underlayer is just like cotton. When I brush him and look at the comb his white underlayer coat looks and feels like you could put it in a cotton gin and make a sweater.
I love Norwegian
My Wegie Max is the most affectionate cat I have ever owned.
The Norwegian Forest Cat is a very affectionate and intelligent cat breed.
They are also kind to human children. They may also teach them how to use more or less force as the other person grows.
I have 2 by accident. I took pictures and it literally told me what breed. A boy and a gal😊
I have one wegie who is silent, and one who doesn't shut up lol
They're both insanely cute though and they're very smart. I highly recommend them as pets
Weegies are awesome
We have a father and son pair of 12.5kg Maine Coons. If the Wegie is as similar as they appear aside from their bridge/nasal differences then they are a pleasure indeed! Our boys pal around like dogs, love to be pat like a dog, are very food motivated yet don’t carry any extra weight. Over a metre in length including their tails. Do Wegies have the primordial pouch so common in Maine Coons?
My 2 Wegies have the chubby bellys
Correction for those paying attention and talking about the difference. The cat shown at 4:18 minutes in, is a "Main Coon" not a Norwegian Long hair. It has a bigger face and long tufts on its ears. Both are beautiful but different.
There's an Abyssinian kitten in the section about playing your cat.
Maine Coon cat. Like the state.
Our precious rescue, Harry Bosch, is def. part NFC. He is beautiful.
Great Video!
One of my purrrrrrrrfect babies is Norwegian. He is calm, peaceful, playful, and hungry all the time. My baby is huge over 8Kg. He loves sleeping under the bedsheet. 😻😻😻
Thanks! Nice video
Our norwegian forest cat died younger than he should have from cancer. He was a mix and he was absolutely majestic, a real sweetheart too.
I'm watching this since this is my theriotype, it helps me act more like it
I think I own one. It's white and gray, dosen't meow until I take it to the vet and it does have a strange meow. It has long hair, loves to play with a little toy mouse the most and IT'S HUGE!!! I looks identical to the large white and gray ones in this video.
I LOVE THEM
such lovely felines
Our Lola would not in her life touch a real mouse she might get her paws dirty.😅
How about letting your cat outside so it can fulfill all their natural instincts and avoid getting overweight and diseases? Of course it depends of where you live, but I don’t get why some people don’t even think about what kind of animal you actually keep inside your home. It should be mentioned in the video.
Good video
Thanks!
They are cutest and may be akin to Siberians. We might wonder if the Wegie is the ancestor of the Siberian, or vice versa. Cats FIRST made it to Scandinavia probably from Irish traders who got them from the Phoenicians--- so way early. It would have taken that long for a natural breed to emerge. The complementary genetics probably first emerged in Persia: quick route to Siberia. This being that double coat that certain of long-haired cats possess. The grey undercoat a death trap for ticks. Bearing in mind that all domesticated cats trace their lineage to the levantine subspecies of Felis sylvestnis, it is likely that the genes that provide for the winterizing double coat are very ancient, and lay dormant in the desert wildcats, merging as their generations travelled north with human companions. A very ancient genetic trait, from before cats and dogs split off. The double coat of northern dogs is of a kind with that of northern cats.
My cat lived almost 18 years old and had a fetish about running faucet water, he loved it!
So beautiful!
You have a video of my cat at 9:22. :)
His name is Loki. ;)
Cold weather affects the differentiation process of cat stem cells, resulting in larger cat body size in Norway and Maine?
Had a wegie cross for 17 years. A totally snuggle bug and demander of brushing.

I recognized her clips in this video too! I've never watched this channel before, this video just came up in my feed today. I'm disappointed to see that they don't seem to credit the other channels that they use clips from

Maine Coons are nice too.
I am certain we own one, is there a way to do a D.N.A. Test that can be done, and if so any recommendations?
Maybe its me , but mine sorta resembles a manuel sometimes with certain facial looks she gives me.
Have you asked Girls with dogs if it is okay to use her?
Skog, means forest.
Norse, Norsk.
Norsk Skogskatt, Norwegian forestcat.
Scogg cat?
Puh.
Skoog katt, please!
and are very friendly towards their family, human or cat.
With paws like a spade, they can do some harm to aggressive dogs or edible small animals. Otherwise, very gentle, almost silent. Highly intelligent.
Best kept as indoor-outdoor cats. Lots of muscle needs somewhere to exercise. Brush continuously, or you have a mobile feltball... difficult to remove from a 10kg cat who doesn't want messed with.
Denne katten elsker å utforske skogen, og den elsker kaldt vær og snø. Den er perfekt for nordiske strøk.
"Skov kat" isnt some name that we gave them, its literally the translation: "skov" - forest, "kat" - cat. Norsk Skovkat. Norwegeian Forestcat
that would be nice on a t shirt. yes ill take two please,,
fluf is half norwegian ,half feral..she is smaller than a normal cat but is very muscular..i rescued her from junkies..i dont know how old she is but she stopped her 2 month cycle 5 months ago..five years ago she just hid ,i put her food out, she never goes outside because shell get pregnant...now she knows i let her draw blood and i let her be in charge, so she sleeps in my bed and licks my forehead to wake me up, cold nose kisses and fluffy tummy massages...she doesnt like other people...the junkies woould sell or kill her kittens and she was terrified and hid most of life, being very small..i reckon she is my protector from myself❤
Thor gave Freya two Wedges!
Are they related to Maine Coons?
Hi Nathanael, because they look very similar, some experts think that Maine Coons are actually the descendants of the Norwegian Forest Cats (because the Norwegian breed is much older than the Maine Coon breed). However, I am unable to find a source that confirms this.
@@Cat_Nation I think the noses are different - Norwegian Forrest Cats have a straight flat nose but Main Coons have the more usual cranked nose profile?
@@nathanaelsmith3553 neither have flat noses.
@@AssistantofReginalManager I think some pedigree NFCs do from the pictures I've seen
@@Cat_Nation presuming that Natives didn’t have Cats well before any one invaded
This breed is in fact more common in Sweden.
The first cats in Scandinavia are known as early as 100 AD, and most likely originated from the Black Sea/ Caspian Sea area (i know there is a breed over there with the same long hind legs, but can`t remember the breeds name) and also the Roman empire
My brothers cat now at parents greenhouse since early 2017 (was indoor outdoor before this) due to brother is allergic to all pet dander with dogs the worst and my parent one of the same parents father a wild cat look just like Norwegian Forest cats the older brother Bear is mostly black with some white in one spot with some brown and gray while the parents is verying shades of gray with same chest white spot. The cats are big with brothers Bear at 25--26 pounds and parents Zuul she is 16--17 pounds. One the parents got is the Greenhouse rodent getter and eater usually but she also eats dry cat food and larger insects like Grasshoppers. My brothers cat he will keep cats that do not belong in the place out, usually very wild cats. They are not Norwegian Forest cats but look & act like Norwegian Forest cats, just due to the environment in South Dakota and how some cats developed to survive in same rough winters, another reason why lots of wild/semi wild farm cats look like Russian Blue as well as some indoor outdoor domestic cats look like both breeds too in South Dakota just due to needing those traits to survive.
When I found out this bread existed, u wanted one but my wife said no we have two cats already. So out of respect for her I dropped it and didn't think anything about it, that is until we had to pay for our dogs new licenses. As we arrived at the animal shelter I saw a big line and I asked her if she wanted to play with the dogs that were up for adoption she agreed and told me we could not have any more. As I walked by the cat section I told my wife look that's odd there's no cats. We walked in and looked around. There was only one and he's was back in a corner cage. I was mindlessly playing with him and my wife said hun that's odd he's a norwegian forest cat. I froze. And she knew I wanted to take him home. At 12 years old his chances weren't good at being adopted. But after 3 days of me going back to visit him, she agreed to let me adopt him. Now he's safe with his forever home.
"...in Europe where the climate is exceptionally cold..." Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Greece at least would like to know your location. Seriously though, I think that sentance should have been "in cold climates in Europe."
