    This matches my prediction, no reason to not use J-35s on all carriers going forward, I went against the grain because what most people were saying didn't make sense, if you're going to design a fifth generation carrier fighter you really want to be using it on all carriers otherwise you risk being at a significant disadvantage against peer competitors in conflicts.
    I would like to see the J-35 have two more missiles on it by the time it reaches mass production, you really don't want to be going out with less than six missiles on board these days.

    Fact that J-35 could take off from a STOBAR is not surprising at all as they would have a sufficient thrust power to take off without problems.

Since the J-35 already has a land-based version, the one that will be sold to Pakistan in future, it'll be interesting to see how many versions of the J-35 will appear, and in what order they appear.

    • @kast6446
      @kast6446 8 місяців тому +6

      From PLA's habit, I guess STOBAR and CATOBAR carrier will share the same type J35. An important reason to support that is J35 is much smaller than J15, size of J35 should be close to F22. From video you may not sense that but in fact, J15 is huge! Even the length of J20 is a little bit shorter than J15. So I think there might be no need to have a difference between STOBAR and CATOBAR carriers. Even F-18 and Raffle can take off from a STOBAR.

    Just wondering why a J35 cannot take off from a ski jump like any other planes if it has enough power and not take on too much weight .
    It is only those planes not designed for catapult cannot be used in carriers with catapult system. But these can still take off from any carriers with or without catapult.
    The catapult is only to enable to those planes to take off with heavier weight not that they cannot take off without catapult.

    • @xblade11230
      @xblade11230 8 місяців тому +2

      Because a catapult produces extreme acceleration over a short distance
      While a ski ramp requires a lot of room the plane needs to start at one end and then gradually accelerate
      The key factor here is stall speed a plane designed for catapult assisted takeoff the engine will stall without a catapult

  • @silversurfergw
    @silversurfergw 8 місяців тому +11

    Isn't the J 35 lighter than J 15? Then wouldn't taking off from ski jump be more feasible for J 35, after proper modifications to its landing gear. Thanks.

    • @fdjw88
      @fdjw88 8 місяців тому +4

      It is lighter. And with a better engine, i would imagine taking off with the FC31 would be easier as well.

    • @tren133
      @tren133 8 місяців тому +3

      It wouldn't need any modification to landing gear. If the J35's landing gear is designed to handle the stress of catapult launch, then it of course can just take off using a simple ski ramp. The only question would be how limited the fuel/payload options are for the J35 if it uses the ski jump versus a catapult.

    • @EurasiaNaval
      @EurasiaNaval  8 місяців тому +2

      Much thanks for the support. J-15 has a max take-off weight of 32+ tons, while J-35's max take-off weight is believed to be 28 tons. There has been widespread speculation that the J-35 will be used on Liaoning and Shandong up to this point, and the emergence of the model on these carriers adds further to that.

    Even only being able to launch the KJ-600 from the long take off position only would justify carrying them on CV-16/17. Even if that doesn't work, it's also potentially worthwhile for them to figure out a RATO system. It wouldn't be sensible to pursue that kind of option for the fighter wing, but it might just make sense to employ it for 1-2 AWACS planes.

  • @phils4634
    @phils4634 8 місяців тому +14

    Interesting indeed. Possible assessment of the practicalities of operating the J-35's of the earlier vessels, or providing pilots with experience operating from both carrier types? Since the PLAN has got the carrier assets, it makes sense for crews to have a level of carrier interoperability. As for the KJ-600, might JATO bottles do the trick? Extra (disposable) take off thrust might solve the problem?

    • @Xinjiangbro
      @Xinjiangbro 7 місяців тому

      KJ600原本就是用来当舰载机的预警机,个人认为按照我军的传统J35能上辽宁舰的话空警600没道理不配置上相同的能力。即一点突破到全面突破。当然也有可能影响空警600原有的性能,还有一种可能就是用同等性能且廉价的无人机集群来替代。但是无人机集群伴飞的话又要考虑飞行速度,作战半径,电子战能力以及舰载的合理有效性。对此我表示怀疑,虽然我真的很爱WZ8🌚

  • @andrewsuryali8540
    @andrewsuryali8540 8 місяців тому +2

    If the J-35 MTOW is capped at around 54,000 lbs, then the existing WS-21 engines producing 20,000-21,000 lbf per engine would be more than enough to allow it to take-off from Liaoning. That's already more power than either the Rafale or MiG-29K has, and both Rafale and the MiG can operate from the much smaller Vikramaditya. If the WS-19 engine is made available and can indeed produce 22,000-24,000 lbf each, then the plane would be able to achieve MTOW around 66,000 lbs. This is the same as the F/A-18E, which is also able to operate from Vikramaditya.
    For KJ-600, the likelihood for STOBAR operation is low. There already was a design for an AWACS aircraft able to take-off from a STOBAR carrier: The never-built 88,000 lbs MTOW Yak-44E. However, this aircraft was designed with two D-27 propfan engines each able to provide 14,500 shp to its propfans, resulting in 26,800 lbf takeoff thrust. In other words, the Soviets tried to solve this problem by producing an aircraft able to generate the same takeoff thrust as a Su-33 on afterburners. Right now China doesn't have access to a propfan or turboprop with this kind of output.
    Maybe if the WJ-10 turboprop generating 5,000+ kW (~6,170 shp) materializes it could give enough power for KJ-600 to do STOBAR operations? The current WJ-6Cs can't.

    It may be deployed sometime in the future, but not at this time.

      @@Rajesh_KC_911 No need to be so rude. Also the information he provided isn't exactly earth shattering. The Harrier is literally a defunct jet. The Mig-29K (not the 35) was always the little brother to the Su-27, which China is already using on its carriers. The Tejas is a relatively rudimentary 4th gen medium fighter that somehow India has only managed to build like 35 IN TOTAL despite being deemed operational almost 10 years ago, and is also only capable of carrier usage on a trial basis. Which leaves India with either buying France's Rafale (still 4th gen) for their carrier, which might take another 5 years to achieve, or waiting for their own HAL TEDBF fighter, which given how long the Tejas is taking, will be ready in 10 years to whoknowshowlong.
      Far as I can tell, Indian navy has a couple dozen of the aging Mig-29Ks for their carriers and a HUGE question mark as to what actual proper carrier fighter they can come up with to serve on their carriers.

    Probably doesn't mean anything operationally. Laws of physics can't be overcome so if anyone thought that the J-15 was limited in armament and range launching from a ski jump carrier, that applies many times over for the J-35.
    Like everything else about the PLA/PLAAF/PLAN, these types of events are worth watching and noting but aren't of much significance.

    I’d be afraid to go out of dock on that casino boat. I dont much enjoy gambling, especially with my life. Has any chinese military ship ever going into blue water, or more than 1000 miles from dock? It’s always overtly obvious of an inexperienced country when you put a ramp to help the planes take off, not realizing that such a ramp magnifies the stress and subsequent wear on the planes taking off…aka. those planes dont last as long if you jump them into the air, as it causes stress fractures in the metal, especially the landing gear.

      You must be trolling to get every point of yours wrong. PLAN has been conducting anti-piracy missions in Gulf of Aden with multiple fleets each year since 2009. Catapult launch gives the aircraft more acceration, thus more stress, than taking off with aircraft's own power. Do you ever wonder why a plane's landing gear has to be strengthened to be launched on a CATOBAR carrier?

  • @Peizxcv
    @Peizxcv 8 місяців тому +4

    This is bad news. It means there is little confidence in 003 and there haven’t been plan to ramp up production of 003 / 004 so 001 and 002 will have to stay on the frontline longer.
    001 and 002 have always been seen as training carriers to get PLAN ready to operate 003 / 004. Now that training carriers have to get ready for combat, it means there won’t be a lot more 003 / 004 in the pipeline. Like you wouldn’t be upgrading the gun on M60 if you know you are gonna buy 8000 M1 Abrams
    001 and 002 are not combat effective in modern naval warfare so unless plan change, PLAN’s capability forecasts are overestimated

      As explained, if PLAN plans to have a lot more 003 / 004, there is no reason to test J-35 on 001 / 002 because how many jets would you possibly need for 2 medium sized carrier to justify the cost of developing a special variant? 10 jets, 12 jets, 24 jets?
      001 and 002 already have J-16, it doesn’t make sense to spend money and time developing a variant of J-35 for STOBAR when you are busy working on the main CATOBAR version

    • @MikuleckyFlock
      @MikuleckyFlock 8 місяців тому +1

      It is not possible to install an electromagnetic catapult because it would require major modifications, which would be cumbersome and expensive and not cost effective

    • @DesignatedVictim
      @DesignatedVictim 8 місяців тому

      The electromagnetic catapult system is not just the catapult itself. It is consisted of a high output generator, a energy storage unit and an energy management system. The required modification would cost so much money and time that they could just build a new ship. The Liaoning is intended for training and experiment purposes rather than actual combat, so don't be surprised to see any goofy stuff been done to the ship.
