BMW X2 M35i: Practical + NOT Boring = Expensive!

  • @BMW makes a lot of crossovers (CUV). Some of them are inexpensive. The U10 BMW X2 M35i is not one of them. It is also NOT boring. Based on the @BMWUSA ‘Unter Klasse’ (Lower Class) platform which it shares with a large @MINI, MotoMan learns it is practical and decent to drive!

This does fill a nice niche in the market - and I do appreciate the fact that this has an ICE engine still (EV drivetrains are the fastest way to a boring drive) however at $60k (as optioned) for that level of performance and the depreciation hit these are going to take is a tough pill to swallow. Oh and please give us physical controls for HVAC again (this applies to all manufacturers), touch screens are horrible.

Another video from MMTV to start my day. Awesome. Ordered the X1 M35i for the misses. She picked it over the base Macan, the X3 M40i, and the MB GLA/GLB 35. My wife has owned a couple of Macans, and several X3s. She wanted a smaller footprint SUV, so she opted for the new X1. I recall when she sat in the X1, it was all she wrote. Love your kicks. I own a pair as well, lol.😎👍

I’m in the UK and thinking about one of these instead of an over large X6! For European small car parks, narrow roads this is great. Small doesn’t mean it has to be cheap. Small luxury is the future (less resources)!

BMW is finding a distinct and attractive design language - also glad to hear that they get good rates from you! I still have a reserved place in my drivers passion heart for BMW´s. They are the only EV vendor who could grow substantially - they must do something right. You can have the X2 fully electrical too. Happy Easter!!!!

It looks like a well done product this X2, definitely a big jump from last X2, can´t blame the folks you described in the video.. I only have one issue with most new cars, screens. Yesteday i went to check the new gen VW Tiguan and as much as it felt well put together and way better than last gen, i just feel that cars in general are more expensive and "give you less". They may have more gadgets than ever but the simplification of interior designs makes you feel like everytime you pay more for less somehow. Before you paid more... you saw more buttons and higher quality interior but now the screen-revolution is just making all cars look and feel way too similar. Fun fact, the sales guy said to me "you can seat inside and play with the different screen modes"... that tells you everything i guess. I want the 90´s back please :)

I ordered a fully-equipped Vegas Red X2 M35i, a bit over $60K, early in December 2023. After waiting all this time with little to no information on its build and delivery status, I was just notified by my dealer that the cars are not going to provided to customers in the US. Corporate and area reps have not told us why. I looked at BMW dealers from Boston to LA and saw but two lightly configured M versions and maybe a half dozen non-M "lot cars." Over five months and zilch. The two dealers in my eastern US city have none. Does anyone know what's up?

I want to shit on this cause 60K lifted hatchback, but I struggle to think of, “small performance suvs” that even exist. I don’t really think the purpose of this car is fun first, due to the weight alone, but that kind of powertrain experience is not widespread fro someone how wants a taller driving subcompact. The only other of note is the Mini’s, and the Kona N.

Great review! As BMW keeps raising the cost of their vehicles, options, and packages, more and more BMW is cutting corners to increase profit, but it doesn’t realize that in the long term will hurt the company’s reputation. Some example, the new H&K sound system is now at 205W worse than your average Honda Accord of 500W. The new 5 series has used a lot of cheap plastic and you can feel it. Toyota has better quality. They took away the comfort access from all rear doors, removed all door sills, in some cars like the new 5 series you can’t even get the illuminated door sills, removed the rear climate zone package, and the list goes on.

I would agree with the wish list. A bit shocked they let that lag on the infotainment see the light of day. My IONIQ 5 Limited AWD maybe a thousand pounds heavier but it’s quicker, doesn’t let the wheels shove the car around and is 10 grand lighter on the wallet. That’s significant at this price range but with better steering wheel buttons, cavernous rear seating and quicker user interface; it turns out to be a steal and cheaper to operate daily. Who knew I drove a cheap car? That’s not what everyone told me. 😏 18:28

It’s so strange that BMW has a vehicle that directly competes against the Honda Civic and HRV for those that want a front wheel drive compact with more cachet. I think the upcoming Honda Civic hybrid or the WRX are better alternatives. I would go down a price level or step up to a 3 Series, which is a similar price.

Don't totally get BMW getting rid of something unique they had, essentially a BMW 'hot hatch', in favor of making this, which the way I see it is, something they already had (style wise) in the X4 / X6. Immensely dislike the removal of the UX control wheel as well removing other knobs & such. As with the prior gen, dislike not having an enclosed storage under the center arm rest. Big kudos for mentioning wheel size issues, nobody does that stuff nowadays, but it's real on many vehicles. I do like the look of this X2 & one thing I think is totally-awesome about the X2 (& X1), is that no other 'X' BMWs can say they're actually made in Deutschland.

I am on the side that doesn’t like the styling, but I took delivery of one in Cape York Green last week anyway. Of all the cars I shopped this one best fits everything I need and I have loved my previous BMWs. Since I’ll be in the car looking out instead of on the outside looking at the car I’ll put up with the styling and look at my 530 instead when I want to enjoy styling.😊
So far the touch screen isn’t much of an issue in daily use and the car is a great driver. I’m currently also driving a Maserati Grecale SUV and the X2 compares surprisingly well for $20-30k less.

@@Palaemon44 Good to hear. I wholeheartedly agree with loving the BMWs I've had. I currently have an F39 X2 that's my daily driver & it has easily surpassed my expectations. I just wish they had kept more of a hot hatch design for the X2. The X4 already had the new X2 base covered (as well as the X6 - for a metric ton of money).

The BPM varies per car. The more it emits the more BPM you pay.
