This is Sean Connery as an ordinary man, not James Bond. A real man that you would love to have a cup of coffee with and chat with him a bit. Enlightening!
The best and only way to live your life, do not accept the bullshit from the bosses. I have lived with the attitude of no-one tells me what to do, particularly now that we have to get rid of the possibility of fascism. I see adopting that approach as a protection against fascism, if you refuse to follow the instructions of the fascists.
Sean was very good at sending himself up, particularly when it came to the women. There was no vanity about Seam, which made him stand out. Very much missed, even now that it is coming up to the 3rd anniversary of his very sad passing.
The best Connery interview I have heard. He was 37 here so I guess the interview took place in late 1967 or early 68. Nice to hear his opinions on things other than films.
He was incredibly intelligent person, but he was mistaken about socialism having to turn to capitalism in order to work properly. He is forgetting that it is because of US sanctions imposed on socialist countries is the reason that socialism failed in some socialist countries. This is fascinating and very revealing.
Does anyone else wish they could've been alive in the late 60's? It seemed like a cool time, the fashion, muscle cars, the free love, the atttitudes, the music, the arts, as long as you weren't poor and drafted into Vietnam of course then it would have sucked hard.
I was and I do, it was turbulent but those that demonstrated had intelligence and reason! Today, the so called rebels are politics driven and full of hate, they even hate themselves! The main lack in these current anarchists and that is all they are, is lack of hope of a future. They want and desire, like a rabid dog, destruction! Their failure and end is prescribed and assured like death and taxes!
I was born in 1965 and still live everything about the decade today. From the films, the music, the arts, the fashion, the counterculture, cars like the DB5 and Jaguar E Type And of course the James Bond Films 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴👍 👍 👍 👍 ❤️❤️❤️
Excellent insight. Could tell his passion for the wellbeing of his country. And an articulate explanation of the industrial power struggle. Management, in its short-termist, political, reactive, hard nosed incompetence is sadly so much worse today.
Sean would have been 93 yesterday 🙏🙏🙏 Not many of his peers still alive. The only comparable is Sir Michael Caine and he is 90. Having recently spent time looking into my maternal family history my grandmother was born in 1885 in Ireland and due to ‘circumstances’ beyond her control left Ireland to travel to England in 1901 to ‘seek a better life’ Sean in the same way had to leave 🏴 for the same reasons. I have spent the last 18 months watching his films and there are many 🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴
This was a very strange but interesting interview, partially about his family and politics. They’re not talking about his acting career at all. Connery seems very loose. It’s almost as if he’s having a conversation with a friend and someone secretly put a camera there. Back there in the sixties.
It would have been so awesome if a young Connery was around to entertain us and play Bond in this era as well somehow and other characters, never got the chance to meet him...
Interviewer was Bernard Braden. He did quite a few of these at the time - this one was from 1967 - but they were never broadcast. Others included Lulu; Cilla Black and Peter Cook. Channel 5 showed excerpts from some of these in 2008, interspersed with modern-day interviews from these stars whilst they were actually watching their own interviews from 40 years earlier. Disappointing that there is hardly anything about his film work. Most people would expect more and maybe have found this quite boring given the subject matter discussed. I'm sure I saw the Lulu one and this just talking about her personal life and her possible marriage / pregnancy.
I have been very interested to find out what Sean Connery's political views were, apart from supporting independence. I have wondered if Sean was aware what the SNP did to Scotland when they became the government, and what he thought about what they did to Scotland. I do like that he has never been a fan of the management and establishment, which you think would make him a socialist, but he chose a non-socialist party. I joined the SNP, and had to leave because they made me sick to my stomach when talking about how great David Cameron was. I only ever had disagreements with them. Then Jeremy Corbyn came to my home city, Aberdeen and spoke and I very quickly joined the Labour Party to support Jeremy Corbyn and left as the result of Keir Starmer.

He spoke of knowing his Great Grandfather very well, who used to jog at 80 & died at 90 also. Good genes in that family.
Not only genes. Many factors play a part.
The real James Bond and the best actor😍😍
A guy who knows he's got the it factor but doesn't have to shove it in your face. RIP Sean.

A man from the street with power presence and perception
A true working-class hero!

Connery would have been great as a Smokey and Bandit film star.
I can see Roger Waters being very inspired by this interview through his lyrics.

All good comedy is basically true. (Watch Jackie Mason.)
