- The Brute is better than most people think but requires some combos and some very strategic management of initiative to really unlock his full power.

I think you missed the boat on Hook & Chain. 2 things...
1) You can pull a target away from a squishy, particularly on escort missions or to protect a vulnerable pet. Or to bring a ranged combatant into melee to force disadvantage or expose it to retaliation. It's not just for traps. And it's ranged damage.
2) While the bottom may look complicated it's still a Move 4 where you zig and zag OR a small Move and Attack on the bottom. Not only can you coup-de-gras some targets but it's also a good way to deliver carrier attacks like stun powder on an alite while preserving your top big attack for something you can one-shot.
My group had a Brute from the start who eventually got to lv 9. We used to called Trample the "Mario Stomp." It's insane right from the beginning- bump it with boots, move 6, stomp ~6 enemies, and then use the card that lets you attack x for each space moved. Add goggles and a strength potion and holy moly that's a good turn.
Can Brutes move back and forth over the same monster with Trample to multiply damage?
@@RobertWF42 no
it just targets all the monsters once
Trample + Boots + War Hammer can also be huge for a group stun in a pinch. Love your guide!
That was some handy information here, I just wanted to clarify some tactics for my own playthrough and now got some big plans.
Brute is one of my favorite classes, despite not being the BEST class, he's insanely effective when played right.
He's definitely got some interesting combos!
Last session was my retirement for my Brute. I made it to 9 and had just unlocked soothsinger and wanted to try something new. My brute was the tank, and oh boy did he work well. The last few sessions I would rarely get below 15 health and other people would rarely get hit at all. Armor and an iron helm to neutralize crits and I was nearly unstoppable. I will miss him a lot but I’m looking forward to trying out a new, different class.
Good quality videos with some good information. Thanks man!
Thanks so much Adam! Glad you liked, and stay tuned as I am putting out multiple videos every single week! Share with any of your friends you think might like them!
Really appreciate these videos, thanks!
No problem! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
So good. Very helpful! Would love to see one of these for red guard on JOTL.
Thanks Myke, much appreciated! Look for a Red Guard guide in less than a month! If you haven't yet, please consider subscribing and thanks so much for commenting!
Now for an ultimate "build" guide on the brute, haha. Thanks for the help! Your info makes the game a lot more fun to play.
Happy to help and thanks for watching!
Before watching this, my son and I used his brute tank to clear the room in scenario 4 with the 2 earth demons. He moved in with boots for his move 6+2 and almost killed the elite. Next turn he did insta kill (lvl 2) on the normal and a big attack on the elite to single handedly demolish a tough room in 2 turns. This was after stunning the room with warhammer in room 2 using the boots and trample combo to allow my scoundrel to pound away with impunity!
Handy guide tho I stopped watching to avoid too many spoilers! He's a fun character, but his true potential doesn't lie in just soaking up damage imo, and I just hope he doesn't hit retirement in our party for a while!
Thats good guide thank you
Wow I've been playing this game all wrong.
I see now There's actual card combos I'm supposed to pull off and not just randomly throwing what sounds cool together.
Maybe I can finally beat the 1st scenario now :)
Combos definitely help and focusing on damage. I have a bunch of beginner strat vids as well, go and check them out!
Brute is really the best class for people who have no idea whatsoever. I did 23 damage with my brute once. At level two. In one turn. Without items or buffs. Using two defensive level 1 cards. Without having any idea of how to play him. I was deeply impressed of myself and decided "imma keep this guy he's acceptable".
And the way your gameplay goes! I mean, 50% of the time it's being really late and either really destructive or really bad and 50% of the time it's standing there motionless like "LET THEM COME!!!" and then go beastmode. That's what I love about him. He doesn't think. He just slaps anything in range.
I have the perfect THEORETICAL turn for a brute. *Spoiler prosperity items!*
(I'm assuming an average +1 modifier with strengthen on every attack)
Turn 1: Immovable Phalanx bottom, get strengthen from any source. Be surrounded by 5 enemies and one boss.
Turn 2: Use Poison Spider
Frenzied Onslaught top 4+4+4+4 = 16 dmg
Use Bloody Axe, Ring of Brutality, Small and Major Power potion:
Whirlwind top 6x10 = 60 dmg
Use Ring of Haste: Hook and Chain bottom 6+2 = 8 dmg
Balanced Measure bottom 16+60+8 (+1) = 85 dmg
Draw critical = 170 dmg
Of course this will never happen, but it's okay to dream, isn't it? :)
And then there's me who freaks out about 16 damage(but with lvl 1 cards, 10xp and no losses)
You know, I like the idea of a big tough beast man using wind magic to get around faster than he has any right to move. Too bad the Brute only has two cards that use and make wind.
one of his move 3 pushback 1 on adjacent enemies may not generate wind, but it uses an animation where brute shouts so loud the breath pushes the enemy back
it's just digital and they didnt wanna change the card but it would have been a fitting one
Hey man is it true that you can choose when to move the little token tracker on your persistent abilities? I thought you HAD to use it every time based on the wording.
Depends on the actual card. Some abilities you move it every time, others you only move when you fulfill a particular condition!
@@neuralnetgames6540 How do you decide which one moves if there are multiple in play at the same time? I this video you mentioned something about choosing to move the marker on the armor card in stead of the one that negates all damage.
@@cooperbuss1297 Yeah it can be a bit confusing but essentially you get to choose! Here is a direct quote from the FAQ "If I take one point of damage from an attack and have multiple abilities (from ability cards or items) which give me Shield when taking damage from an attack, do I have to use all of them?
No. You can choose which Shield bonus to apply in this case, and once the damage is reduced to zero, it is no longer a source of damage, so any other bonuses do not have to be used."
What is your best 4-player party combo?
Spellweaver, Tinkerer, Scoundrel, Cragheart!
@@neuralnetgames6540 FUNNY! My bride and I picked Mindthief and Brute for our two. Then our boys picked Tinkerer and Scoundrel. Whoops!
Was a little disappointed to learn my first class pick isn't very good
Brute or Cragheart in a 2 player game?
For me, the Crag, he's just more fun!
@@neuralnetgames6540 if my game ever gets here, Crag and Mind Thief was the planned duo.
good
Thanks!
haven't heard from you in a year, starting to worry...
In my last game playing digital GH my Brute's Overwhelming Assault did 0 damage against a monster instead of 6, then I had to burn the card!
At the very least the game should let Brutes reuse that card. They are Brutes after all!
I hate the Brute. Miserable character I'm never playing again
