    I got a pretty good chuckle out of your example of a bad starting team, because that was exactly my first team composition after my friend and I opted to choose randomly. It was definitely tricky, but we made it through the first 20 or so scenarios with Scoundrel-Spellweaver.

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  2 роки тому

      Haha nice, yeah not unwinnable but certainly an awkward two player pairing. I have the feel the Spellweaver did alright out of that relationship, but not so much the scoundrel.

      Pretty much - we found synergies where we could, though. I took some summons for his adjacency plays, took some heals so he could be on the front line, and he laid down poison to maximize my AOE. We didn't even realize how much synergy was lost until we retired up to a Brute and Saw team. Holy cow. We devastated so many monsters I think they're still telling stories about it. We were kicking in doors and teeth.

    In regards to Stamina potions, the digital version actually has them correct. As you're meant to only recover 1 discarded card in the tabletop as well, not 2. Or else they'd be WAY too overpowered.

    When I first played the board game, me and my friends absolutely hated it. We were so confused as how it was labeled as the number one board game on all sorts of websites. I picked up the digital thinking it would be something just to try once during an evening without anything going on and I got addicted to it. Making everything automated just cuts down on so much time and human error for newbies like ourselves. I don't think I'll ever be able to convince them to do the physical again, but I have gotten a few on board for digital nights and they've been slowly warming up to it.

    I really like that you started with a shot of you instead of talking over some splash screen, like most other gamers do. I also like the angle, background, and lighting. The only thing preventing this from looking absolutely professional is video quality. That may be due to this being shot on a webcam, but it can be compensated for by raising the contrast. That will prevent it from looking quite as washed out. And as a photographer, I would also add a vignette.

    I play Scoundrel and Spellweaver, as they are the best two characters in my opinion. And they work pretty well.
    Fire Orbs kills the first 3-4 monsters almost everytime in round 1 (with goggles).
    Smoke Bombs bottom side is good to get the adjacency bonus in the first round.
    Smoke Bombs upper side plus 1 big attack kills the last one in the scenario pretty easily.
    And everything else is easy to deal with a little timing and positioning (e.g. going late with both chars in one round, and then going fast in the round after).
    Hit points don't matter that much, if 80% of the enemies die before attacking even once.

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  4 роки тому +1

      Alex Müller glad it works for you, it can certainly work but just not a great combo for inexperienced players or people who aren’t maybe used to these types of games. I think the fire orbs opening is very strong at early levels but you’ll soon find that the damage will fall off.

    • @BlueEyesLX
      @BlueEyesLX 4 роки тому

      @@MandatoryQuest Well that may be. My main intention was to give some tips to newer players how to make them two work together. It's right as you said in the video that it is always a good thing to have a tank, that can absorb some hits, while the rest of the party is preparing for or dealing multiple attacks against the monsters. But there may be others like me, that do not like the other four starting classes, so perhaps it could help them a bit. :)

      @@MandatoryQuest I been playing tons of gloom digital and i found that any 3 char party out of the starting clases is viable. The only really bad one i found is tink scoundrell weaver. Getting use of the scoundrell cards is really anoying. But swap the scoundrell for a mindthief and you have tons of crowd control and sudenly it dosent matter that everyone in the party is made out of tissue paper. The design of the game is so great.

  • @Greyson_Kousari

    are there many rule differences in between digital and the tabletop? as in how a card is played for example? or can i use the digital to better understand the rules or even learn them from the start with the digital version to be prepared for the tabletop?
    does any of the chars differ in between both versions?

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  4 роки тому +1

      There is only one big rule change to do with short resting between the two. In Tabletop you can short rest at the end of your turn, but in digital this is done at the beginning of a turn. I believe this is a rules errata that may make its way into future GH tabletop games too. Apart from that the only differences are the modes of play. There are a few small changes to items for balance reasons, but apart from that its all the same. Currently we only have a small pool of characters in Digital as its in Beta, but at full launch they will be the same. Digital is a great way to learn and improve at the game for sure!

    • @Greyson_Kousari
      @Greyson_Kousari 4 роки тому

      @@MandatoryQuest thanks for the quick answer. But does that rule errata really change anything? Since a short rest lets you still fight in that round there should be no problems with that or am I missing something out here? Only played 3 dungeons in the tabletop version atm

    • @Greyson_Kousari
      @Greyson_Kousari 4 роки тому

      Also it seems for me that there is also a change with the chosen difficulty level. In tabletop it changes only the level of the enemies (and thus their live, base damage and so on) but not the amount of enemies. Also we don't get the +2blesses an more health

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  4 роки тому +1

      @@Greyson_Kousari Yep difficulty is slightly different. The number if enemies is only different in Digital because of Adventure mode of play, and I think the difficulty has been tuned due to player feedback. I don't expect that to be the case for the digital campaign mode. I consider Adventure mode to be its own unique game mode where the gameplay mechanics are the same, but the levels are different, kind of like an expansion.

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  4 роки тому +1

      @@Greyson_Kousari You could argue that it is a quality of life change to allow 'sloppy' play. In Tabletop you can always say at the beginning of a round "oh sorry I forgot to short rest, can i do it now?" in a digital game you cannot go back, so i think its a design choice to be more forgiving. There are no real gameplay ramifications to this though no.

    I have the boardgame not the digital. Some friends and I are playing tinkerer, spellweaver, scoundrel and mindthief. Breezed through 1st three scenarios, then we got to the 4th... failed three times... Showed not just party weakness but flaws in our player group as well.
    We A) lack a high hp character to tank. B) spellweaver never took time to understand infusion (element usage) and setting up combos. C) mindthief thinks only way to beat things is more damage, more, damage, more damage. Wont use status effects, push/pull, and won't use any other augment (shield, heal, muddle, pioson etc...) D) team refuses to slow down in initiative to benefit from tinkerer auras (scoundrel and mindthief way to fast)
    Made the game way unfun that I refuse to play it with them anymore. Now only my lady and I play. It saddens me as 4 player is way more fun and social.

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  4 роки тому +1

      That sucks, when you say the 4th one are you on about the large town scenario? Cant remember the name, but its a big one that takes a long time to complete, so its frustrating when you fail it. If it is that one you kept failing don't worry as that one is notoriously difficult for any party comp. In fact it nearly put me off the game. If you are struggling with that party comp you will need the Mindthief to concentrate on stuns and tanking, might be hard to convince them but just for this one scenario to help the team out. The tinkerer should go all in on healing, and then contribute with net shooter and ink bomb when needed. The auras are nice but if its at odds with the way the group plays they aren't a huge loss to not use. Spellweaver does not need to infuse regularly, but should be using their burn cards whenever the situation arises to get max value, ideally they should be using reviving ether to get all their cards back around 50% through the dungeon. Alternatively if you want just skip the scenario for the greater good of keeping your game going., no-one will judge or care! I hope this helps a little.
