Final Blitzkrieg: The Patrol

  • Not been playing much CM this past month (developed a fad of playing, of all things, truck simulators) but managed to squeeze in this small CMFB battle whilst using the CMFB 'All in One', reshade & a 2731x1536 resolution.
    There's been a few changes to my system (a few minor upgrades, my i5-2400 is now an i7-2600 & I have doubled my RAM to 16GB) whilst Microsoft got rid of their video editor so I'm having to learn to use a different one (This video was made with Capcut).
    I'm also trialing some tweaked gunshot trails & a new reshade profile for night battles (I'm calling it 'NIGHT BRIGHT'). Additionally, I used the quick tracer fix of deleting the [night] tracers & just using the untagged night effects option instead.
    Finally, the 'Reanimate' option is active.

    GG, I split the squads and pincer attack the village with base of fire / overwatch team covering the 2-story house.

    I dearly love this game, and entire series; but I wish to god they would do something about the spotting. @1:50 is a perfect example. Your men (literally) ran right into the front of the foxhole waiting for you...and they never saw you coming at all. I have seen this happen with my infantry waiting for tanks and been blasted by buttoned up tanks.
    I simply canNOT reconcile some of the spotting in the game more so than any suspect "Tactical AI" choices that I hear people bitch about.
    WORST PART IS.... It is still the BEST series of wargames in this scale bar none (even with the decades old engine). :)

      The reshade profile hid it but the conditions were pitch black, at night & in a snow storm... it seems perfectly reasonable for me that a defensive position could be surprised in such circumstances.
      Actually the second 'surprise contact' (at ua-cam.com/video/QdJyXLZiYVw/v-deo.html) seemed "worse" to me because you'd imagine the defenders would have been alerted by all the overwatch fire.
      Even so, considering the conditions & the abstract nature of the spotting model, these contacts still seem pretty believable events to me.
      The biggest problem with the spotting model (and especially when comparing with real war footage) is the usual wargaming problem of giving you (a floating spirit of war) too much information compared with the guys on the ground.
      This leads to the 'All or nothing' issue we see in wargame spotting when, in reality, "spotting" can be many, many, many shades of grey.
      Finally, it's possible that 'reanimate' may be effecting the spotting model.

      @@k.o.b.597 Posible, not probable and MUCH less likely. Problem is that is NOT how it works in the game. Play and learn, listen or not I care not. I have watched this company before they published their first....back when it was called (no kidding) "Beyond Squad Leader". The spotting code sucks horribly.
      Wait until you have an on-line game with an AT ambush set PERFECTLY; an ambush that (literally) may have taken weeks to setup....THEN have a TIGER roll up IN THE OPEN....BUTTONED UP ....and SPOT your AT Team 100m off to the side in the trees and blow them away. I have seen this scenario more times than I can count.
      IF you play as long and as much as I, you will see it sooner or later.

      I've noticed that I've been tweaking the gun sounds less this year so it seems I must be fairly happy with them.

      Inside the modpack is an "extras & options" folder. Inside that is Rockinharry's 'reanimate' mods. These mod the stances of the men so that they're more likely to keep their heads down.

    question. in your final blitzkrieg all in one modpack there are two versions of the rollbahn d campaign. one is called 'rollbahn d 0-48 stunden' the other is simply 'rollbahn d'. was wondering what the difference was?

      According to the campaign's designer, the 0-48 campaign is a short one of only 7 battles.
      The full campaign is, by far, the biggest campaign ever made at a whopping 35 scenarios, however it begins with a choice of starting on day 3 (if you've played the 48 hr version already).
      If you intend to play the full campaign I'd advise just playing that from the start.
      It seems to me though that a 7 scenario campaign is far more likely to be actually finished than a 35 scenario one.
