  • Another dull wet UK afternoon, another reason to play around with a fun circuit. This time it's a LED sound to light circuit. I rescued a small electret microphone from a dead telephone handset and this was the ideal circuit to give it a new lease of life. The original circuit came from the Tech help youtube channel (link in video). The sound picked up by the microphone causes a row of LEDs connected in parallel to shine brighter according to the loudness of the audio signal. In this video I'll show how I built this circuit on breadboard.

This looks like a fun and easy circuit! There's something simply enjoyable about making lights blink with your voice.

Hey Alan, I just finished building a color organ the other night. I was going to suggest this as a topic. Ended up using a lm324n. Colin Cunningham did a vid way back when. a while back i converted an 2 tube led shop light with rgb strips. It has a nice diffusion. I noticed hooking up bass to red on both tubes and mids and highs too blue and green on each tube makes for some really interesting patterns and effects. ill make a vid and share later. thanks for sharing
