    That's Awesome! Fantastic job! You make it look easy this time around! Great sounding Module right there!

      Thanks! I have no idea why it was so easy this time round, took me about 30 mins to complete the module. Took me about 2 hours to solder the 5 joints badly the day before 🤣

    I'm glad to see you got it figured out. That wavefolder sounds pretty wicked.

      Thanks! Yeah the wavefolder is great! I have another similar build lined up next… watch this space!

    NIcely done, those joints are a lot better than I see in some UA-cam videos from self proclaimed 'experts'

      Thank you very much! That’s good to hear! You wouldn’t have said that about my previous soldering attempt 🤣

    Awesome stuff, gives me confidence to try some soldering. FYI little tip I learned for dusty modules: get yourself a big soft-bristled paint brush - complete game changer

      @@triangularmerkel thanks, that’s a great tip! The dust on the modules is very annoying! Go for it with the soldering, it’s so much fun! If I can do it (just!) then I’m pretty sure anyone can do it! Good luck!

    We all have bad days. I had an absolute mare trying to solder a USB-C connector on an Nquencer yesterday. Wrecked the connector and I have to hope the board has survived, the rest of that project should be pretty easy but I need the connector to upload the firmware. Put that back in the box for now and built a cascade that's been waiting for attention. That worked without a hitch thankfully.

    • @iamseeingdots
      @iamseeingdots  Місяць тому +1

      Hope you get your Nquencer sorted! I’m sure it will be fine, I was convinced I’d wrecked my module and it worked just fine :) sometimes it just needs leaving for a bit and then coming back!

    Well done, you! (by the way... I didn't give you any advice about soldering as I've never actually held a soldering iron... honest!) Glad you got it sorted! see you both soon, I hope!

    A fine tip is great but I find I need a higher wattage soldering iron for a fine tip so i mostly use / struggle with a bigger tip. I usually melt a power header, like its my trademark for DIY!

    • @iamseeingdots
      @iamseeingdots  Місяць тому

      lol! Yeah I need to get a bit of practise with the fine tip, wasn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be!

    Currently in the middle of building a Turing Machine... needed to see a good solder

    • @iamseeingdots
      @iamseeingdots  Місяць тому

      Good luck! I have to admit, I did try soldering a Turing machine a few years back. Unfortunately had a terrible soldering iron and it ended up a mess. So my advice would be to make sure you have a great soldering iron! Turing machine is a fantastic module - hope it works out well! Keep us posted :)

  • @la7dfa
    @la7dfa Місяць тому

    Looks like your iron is too hot. If you can adjust the temperature, you do not need to have it that much above the melting point for the solder.
    Make sure the iron heats up the circuit board at the point you want to solder. Then apply solder to the board and let it flow around the component/wire.

    • @iamseeingdots
      @iamseeingdots  Місяць тому +1

      @@la7dfa many thanks for the tip! Think it was at 380. I’ll try it a little cooler next time :)

    You really shouldn't need to use a solder sucker very often, you should be cleaning the tip of your iron regularly to keep solder from building up on it. I've been building electronics for at least 54 years now, and I've used a solder sucker maybe half a dozen times. If you keep the tip clean, you can actually remove excess solder with the iron itself, and that method would definitely have worked with the power connector in the previous video. If there's a lot of excess solder, clean the tip, reflow the joint, some solder will remain on the iron, clean it again, and reflow again if you need to remove more. Way easier than using some solder sucker.

    • @iamseeingdots
      @iamseeingdots  Місяць тому +1

      Thanks for the advice! I didn’t realise that. Think the second time round I used the solder sucker about 10 times - first to remove the first 5 joints and then to correct some more dodgy joints! I’ll give your method a go next time!

    • @videotrexx
      @videotrexx Місяць тому

      @@iamseeingdots it's much easier - one hand, just your soldering iron. Just make sure each time between removing solder, you clean your tip in the wire wool (or whatever you want to call it) until you see that the tip is only "tinned" - no excess solder on it, just a nice silvery tip. Then remove more solder, clean again and reflow again. Sometimes it may take two or three goes at it, but way easier than a solder sucker in one hand and the iron in the other. A lot of times after I finish up a project, I'll look at all the joints and clean up any that have excess solder on them using this method.
