Thanks to my days on Forza 6 and F1 2016 this video is hilariously relatable. To quote Kimi Raikkonen on this track "The first few turns are quite good but the rest of it is shit."
"Oh Yas Marina Circuit, never change ... actually do, because you're shit." And it actually does, and the most shitty turns are going to be gone! I'm hoping it'll now be almost mediocre!
You know the corners aren't too bad... it's just that they managed to place and combine them in such a way that the track has no flow whatsoever. And tbh that's quite the achievement.
I haven't laughed this hard in ages. An impeccably produced deconstruction of a track I admittedly fell for years ago more for that damn hotel than quality of racing. It's funny because most everything you said is true! That said, I've learned recently to love Yas Marina the way it should be loved thanks to that Seat Leon TCR mod on Assetto Corsa. Sometimes it's just a matter of the car you drive. I hope you never stop making these track guides.
@@Citiesinmotionplayer you can race mid to low downforce no problem...depending which part you wanna be fast on...for race i always prefer lower setting to have overtaking chances
@@flickarod8973 Agreed. This year is awful, but at least I've found some gems on UA-cam like SouthPawRacer. Most probably our Anthony said this coz of the Don got elected.
Big fan of falling asleep on the back straight, summoning the great Progenitus, then wishing you were at a different track instead of the dumb slow corner into chicane section.
This was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time, absolutely brilliant, and it describes this desaster more accurate than I've ever seen someone describing it.
Will Buxton asked Räikkönen 2009 in a room full of people who helped building the track, what he thinks of the track. Kimi's answer: "The first sector is okay, the rest is shit!"
There's actually a really easy way to fix this track. Use the chicane right after turn four instead of the one right before the hairpin. Therefore, the speeds going into the hairpin would be low enough for the small runoff without being so low that no exciting racing could happen. Also, after turn eight, use the part of the track that links turns 9 and 21. Therefore, F1 skips the bad part of the track. The only problem would be the awkward pit entrance angle, but I think it could work.
I actually like this track. I may be the only one on this though. The track is fun for me because of how hard it is and getting the corners right feel so satisfying.
Horiz0nBlade I agree! Some tracks are too narrow for their tight turns but this one gets it just right! It’s so rewarding to get right unlike Zandvoort which is just annoying as crap!
Would you consider making a video about the different versions of the former IndyCar venue New Jersey Meadowlands? That would be about as exciting as the streets of Marrakesh. And while you're at it, do you know the former DTM track Alemannenring in the town of Singen? I guess the Columbus, Ohio, sportscar couse would be more fun. Also, a side by side comparison of Valencia's 2 FIA Grade 1 circuits could be fun, despite the one surrounding the marina having been looted for scrap metal since it last hosted an event.
It's one of those places that can be fun once you learn it but everything has to be done with such high precision to make even a decent lap that unless you have say... an actual F1 title to defend, you simply can't muster up the will power to do another 50 laps to figure it out (and another 50 ...and another ...for about 4 hours) ..at least thats the way it feels when you run it in F1 sims, slower cars i guess can take a bit more liberties with it and at least have some fun during that first 100 slow lap struggle :P
Same here...in games, setup wise, it has the biggest spread....i played it first i the original rfactoe before the hybrid era and always loved to do setup for this track...
God almighty, the Forza series made me absolutely hate Yas Marina... I don’t know why tho... maybe because they made me play it too many times and now the imperfect design is completely engraved into my head yet I still can’t remember a single bit of it off by heart...
After the second straight the track should continue into a tightening left hand hairpin to get rid of that stupid right left, off cambered flick that destroys racing
They could've removed the chicane and sort of extended the corner into a long sweeping turn instead. Would line up at the same spot as the track does now.
I’ve never understood the hairpin here, you can’t use it in any major race categories. Why couldn’t they extend the run off, and have the stand arch over the track, similar to the hotel and the run off down the other end of the following straight (lumpy bumpy thing they call a “straight”)
@@cornevangulik6166 well, if it were just a regular stretch of sea, I'd agree they could just put a bridge over there or whatever, but since it's a fucking yacht harbour (in which is quite a lot of money too), I don't think they can just yeet through it
Fun fact - the circuit was originally supposed to be just that, a hybrid street and permanent track. That's presumably why the final half of the track follows the route it does.

Honestly this track isnt bad in a car with low/no downforce, its just not a very original track.
I just played this track on F1 2016 and I was on 8/8 downforce. I tried 4/3 wings but that cost me a full second in turn 3 alone.
