Best explanation of re-sizer die setup that I've ever seen. I was especially impressed that you explained the reason cases often get longer after running through the die but before final adjustment is made. I've been using a hodgepodge of dies on my .308 bolt guns but I think I'm going to convert everything to Whidden dies. Thank you.
Good knowledge and explanation . A lot of people don’t understand what is shoulder bump and neck sizing . this is very good for people shooting bow, action rifle.👍
I have asked so many people why that happened and they said i was crazy that it was not possibel to happen . I knew i was not crazy . Very good information , Thank you sir.
I am absolutely ecstatic with my Whidden reloading equipment. So precise and so easy to read that micrometer for bullet seating. And your guys customer care and technical support is unrivaled. I would strain to find any complaint other than they're not free 😁. Keep on cranking out precision reloading dies! And to John: I have enjoyed watching you stomp the competition in the shooting sports. You are a great credit to it!
Thanks for making the video. I had to watch and rewatch many times as I was struggling to consistently size, and i now i feel much better getting consistent results.
Although I use the feel method, this video was the best of many I watched when I first started reloading. Besides it is still wise to measure with the guages. Mr. Whidden's videos are always short and to the point. In this one he clearly explains die adjustment and how to achieve good head space and measurements. I only reload for my 325wsm rifles. When I go to my other calibers I will be getting custom Whidden dies. I also like that they provide the guages . Whidden Gunworks rocks! Some one at my gun range in Pennsylvania and another person at my Florida gun range said I should order Whidden dies.
Thank you for this informative video. I own a set of your dies and really like them they are a very high quality product. I will be attempting bump sizing for the first time today!
Best die set-up video I've ever seen! Will be calling you first thing on Monday morning, John to order some equipment. As far as the comment below about the music, if he was any kind of shooter, he wouldn't hear the distraction at all...lol ! Thanks for the great job.
Excellent analogies "Squeezing a half-full tube of toothpaste so longer headspace and need to thread die down. "Average sheet of paper 0.003" thick" I use an expander mandrel so I remove the decapper/expander stem from my resizing dies. 21st Century has expander mandrels in in .0005” increments. Instead of a comparator, a more precise measurement is possible with the LE Wilson Micrometer/case gauge. I use a Lee Universal Decapper die to pop out the primers as my first step before reszing.
to all of you bitching about the music: if you were truly concentrating on what he was saying, the music would have faded into the background. Maybe it wasn't the music but your own lack of listening skills......
Husband ordered your new click adjustable FL sizer with bushings, seater and bump gage for 338 Lapua today. Looking forward to using them. Wish you made shellholders.
Excellent information. I come back to this video from time to time to see if he got rid of the moronic music. If not than he gets 4 second bounced traffic.
Super good video, but could you do another video with increased volume on that 15 second loop of dulcimer and harp music please? I could almost hear your voice at times.
Well done, excellent information. I am in the process of reloading AR platform ammo. .004-.005 seem to be a bit more than I have been hearing to shoulder bump..002-.0025 Is your recommendation of 4-5 thousands just to ensure chamber loading with no cycling malfunctions? This the impression your giving me. Thanks.
Excellent... saved to my “go to” reference file. Question... with this FL sizing die you did not have an “expander ball” on the stem. If there was, would there be a potential to further compress the shoulder to offset the positive extension created by the pulling the expansion ball back through? Thanks for the education 👍
He used a Full-length sizer without a bushing. If you notice on his upstroke, there's resistance in the top 1/3 of the stroke.. that's the expander ball running through the neck. On a bushing die, you don't need the expander, because you are only sizing the neck portion barely enough to get a good tension on your bullet. Unless you order a very custom FL sizer to exact chamber specs and with a particular neck diameter ( if you're turning your necks to a particular thickness, for example.. but that's only usually for world-class Benchrest/ F-class precision competition. ) That would be a VERY expensive die.
I noticed that when you bumped the shoulders of the first two cartridges they came out to negative three-thousands and the third one you bumped came out to a bit less than that. Is it possible that the reason for this could be the build up of case lube on the inside of the sizing die? If so, what can be done about this in order to get more consistency? I realize that the differences in measurements were miniscule but if a build up of case lube or some other foreign matter was the cause of it, each time you size another case might just add to the problem.
I presume this video is for rimless cartridges- not rimmed cart. or magnum (belted) cart- because headspace is determined by the shoulder position- right?
Excellent video, thanks for making it. For those of you crying about the music, what are you Women? That's a female trait not being able to concentrate on a given task. Do you also use words like "homophobe" and call your Women "the boss" or "the warden"?
Did I miss it? I was looking forward to a discussion of the bushing sizer die....but the video just seemed to go straight from setting the die...to the shoulder bump information...
I am new to reloading. I received from my friend once fired brass identical to what I use. I measured the headspace and it was -.002” to -0.003”. Since the rounds will chamber do I have todo any resizing? Thanks
Howard while your understanding of headspace is correct I still recommend sizing the brass in your die. The reason is the brass may have been fired in a chamber that's larger in diameter than yours. This could be either at the shoulder or base of the brass. Also be aware that sometimes interchanging brass between chambers can lead to sticky extraction. If the diameter at the base of the original chamber is larger than your chamber this is likely to happen. Even though we are sizing the base down, right at the base of the case the brass is very thick and hard for any die to size down. Hopefully your friend's brass will work smoothly for you and none of these problems crop up, but I wanted to share this info with you and the other viewers.
@@howardschwartz1462 If the headspace on your die is already set for your rifle (you have set is previously with brass fired in your rifle) then just use that same die setting. If you do not already have the die set, then first adjust the die so that it sets the shoulder back to say -.005". Then carefully adjust the die from there to see -.003". You will know you're in the right place this way.
I needed to watch your video to educate myself, I don’t need to be entertained. Please no music next time, it’s very hard for me to stay focused on your words with a guitar slamming my eardrums.
I wonder what a 6x National Champion would charge to provide a 1-1 reloading lesson. Keeping in mind this video is free, I will gladly accept he is not a professional videographer and I'm fortunate to have learned from his knowledge.

I've watched this video several times to ingrain it into my headspace and always learn something. Thank you. It made me a customer!
Great video. You explain things clearly and are very understandable. However, I found the music more of a distraction and not necessary. Thanks again.
Excellent and very clear explanation - Thank you, John! (Yeah, not a big deal, but the music is no needed)

One of the best intro to reloading videos ever…regarding sizing brass !!!

Great video - very informative and explained in detail.
Thank you for this very illuminating presentation.
Well done, great video. Thank you for such clarity.
Great info, very thorough...not sure if the music is appropriate or necessary but made me smile reminded me of Mr Rodgers a bit ⚡✌️
Thank you for a very informative video. Best I have seen on the subject.
Clear. Step to step easy to follow. My die is in the mail on the way.

Awesome video! Have your sizing and seating dies for my 6.5 and they are super quality!
Excellent video! Lots of info and good tips. Thanks
Your explanations were good though rather brief. I would have liked to have been able to see the gauges both before and after each sizing.
That really cleared it up for me thank you
Even tho I learned all this stuff long ago, I still enjoyed the video.
Thank you for an overall solid presentation
Excellent explaining sir! Thanks.
Beautiful music to adjust resizing dies
Good explanations and loved the information. The music….shut it off. Very distracting.
Great info John! Thanks!
Very informative !
Great video, helped me to re setup my Forster Coax press
music is very distracting - thanks for the video though
or lower the volume
I agree. Larry Potter would be proud tho :D

Ok then - great video. Answers some vexing questions I had. Thanks.
great video
Great instructional video
Good video. Didn't notice the music. I guess some whiners haven't been married long enough to develop selective hearing.

Is that you're best recommendation!?
Music is unneeded, but great video.
Is it any different for a belted cartridge (I.e. 7mm Rem Magnum) which headspace off the belt rather than the shoulder?
How do you know that gauge is exactly the same as the chamber of your rifle?? Where can I get one of those gauges??

That is correct, it's a full length sizer.

Good video spilled by the silly music it's to loud
What kind of dies are you are using and the that gauge
We are using Whidden Gunworks dies and also our Shoulder Bump Gauge in this video.
Is the shoulder bump gauge shown the same/similar to the Hornady Comparator?
The background music is too loud. I can hardly hear the announcer.
were can i buy those guages?
The shoulder bump gauge is available on our website here www.whiddengunworks.com/product/shoulder-bump-gauge/
Is it long enough to use on a loaded factory round?
Can't watch due to the music
Great rid of that garbage music
