I was an original member of The Academy when it became a Drum & Bugle Corps in 2004. Words cannot express how much this historic 2016 show meant to those of us who came before. Truly a surreal moment watching them take the field on Finals night as a top 12 corps for the first time in corps history. #TheEffortIsThePrize
I can't tell you how happy I was when they made finals with this show. Absolutely lovely show!
I was a member of The Academy from 2014 to 2017. This is my favorite show I ever performed with the group. I will never forget the feeling I had after we finished performing and the crowd gave us a standing ovation. It was such a great feeling knowing that you had your best performance and the crowd loved it just as much as we loved performing it.
The solo instrument is called a flugelhorn. It’s like a warmer smoother trumpet.
I was in The Academy Colorguard in 2015 😭 We did a Mary Poppins show! Seeing you react to The Academy in general is so honoring to me and I’m pretty sure to anyone who’s marched there as well! Please don’t ever stop watching DCI/WGI videos!! ❤️ the marching arts community loves you
Yoooo i marched with you in 2015 I played baritone 🤘
There are more of us out here who love what you do! We just don’t get to go to as many performances as we would like. 😊
My family drove five hours to see this performance at finals. It was fantastic!
This was my first season of Drum Corps! I was in the color guard! In the beginning during the vocal when the bride is being carried out I’m the one in front holding the feet. This show holds such a special place in my heart especially making finals for my first year and for the first time in corps history! I’m so happy you got to watch it 🥺💕
I'm happy we marched together. 💕🥺🥺🥺💕
Was there in person this was legendary. The Academy isn't an elite drum corps so for them to have such an entertaining show and perform it so well deserved to make the finals competition for the first time (aka the top 12). Legendary ballad too.
They look elite to me. Love the Academy.
I mean their pretty inconsistent floating around the top 12-15. Still a world class corps though
May not be considered elite to some, but this is one of my favorite performances of all time!
The first five notes of the “wedding song” is actually the Funeral March which has an almost identical start to the Wedding March, which plays off of the “dead bride”.
I prayed Courtney would acknowledge the absolutely stunning horn solo in this show and she did. Bravo!
The Academy REALLY stepped it up that year. The kids SOLD the show to people in attendance, too. They even handed out "wedding invitations" to the show, I have one of them around here somewhere. Such a great show, one of the more creative moments in recent DCI. Also, on finals night the bride ran to the sideline and threw her bouquet over her shoulder into the crowd.
My favorite part of this group and their performance is how everyone was sooo excited to see them make it to finals. It felt like everyone in the community was rooting for them. They did an amazing job. I'm so proud of everyone who worked with or was in The Academy that year.
I was there for the quarter finals, semi finals, and finals shows. The video you reacted to was semi finals. I know this because I remember Brandt Crocker (the announcer) having the delay between ‘ac’ and ‘cademy’ at the semis performance, and also, he said Drum “Corpse” International when announcing their finals performance, just to add a little humor and lighten things up, I’m sure.
You definitely needed to see this one live to get the full effect - there were things going on that the videos don’t capture, and that’s how you really get the full effect of this show (and, of course, so many others). This was truly a special performance, with The Academy making it to finals for the first time ever after several years of contending and pushing themselves so hard. I’ve always been a fan of this corps because they have a competence about them that I just love.
Another really cool thing - at the finals awards ceremony, the crowd gave them a standing ovation even though they came in 11th place. It’s rare for a corps placing at that level to get that kind of response when placements are announced, so it was really cool that everyone understood that it was such a special moment for that corps and their show!
I had the amazing opportunity to March with the academy in 2015 and 2016, and this show was by far my favorite to perform. Was so happy to see you react to this. Such an amazing performance, and beyond wonderful people to call my family ❤️❤️🥰 that summer and show holds a very special place in my heart.
Hi Rachel! 😃
@@TheGreenie21 Hey Richard
@@32krod yooo what's up Jacob!!! 😎
This show will always have a special place in my heart.
And Courtney there will never be a lack of good shows because there are new iconic moments that happen every summer (Once everything gets back to normal in the US). The only show you haven't reacted from Carolina Crown in the last decade was 2014. They came in 5th which is relatively low for them but the competition that year was insane and that show was still really amazing. I know you have a lot of stuff to watch but that show should be near the top of your list. It's called Out of This World.
This was the one season I was able to march DCI, and I'm so proud to say it was with Academy. A reminder to all of you out there to be undeniable.
You picked the perfect year to do it! '16 Academy was damn near the perfect show. Well done!
I was pulling for my Blue Devils to win and get that elusive three-peat, but I think I was happier that this show made finals.
I marched with academy in 2011 its so amazing to see how much they've improved. Definitely one of my favorite shows in 2016
I marched this show and it was the most fun and most difficult show I have ever performed. I’m beyond elated you got to experience this show because it’s the first time The Academy made it to finals at the DCI Championships
Why do I feel like I know who this is just from "Ohio"?
This is such an underrated corps. I hope we get to see them in finals again sometime soon.
Edit: I forgot how beautiful that damn flugel solo is
I just found this video. I saw this show live. I was my favorite show that year. The Academy were on fire that year.
13:05 bass drummer at the point of the heart went so hard his bass drum fell off, awesome show
I went to the summer marching academy in 2016, and I got to play some of this music with them, it was a lot of fun, and I got to see them play it live on field
I was there in person when this show was performed. I believe this was Academy's first appearance in the DCI Final. The applause they had after this performance and when they came out for awards at the end was incredible. Excellent show to watch!
My drum instructor is the center snare. It made me so happy when she commented on it
Love your kind comments. So love that you enjoy this too!
My friend marched this year on tenor!
I love this show. Really enjoyable.
Im still gonna recommend BD 2015. “INK” is underrated imo.
lol, yea you'll never run out of good DCI shows. And i love your reaction to the first impact because it makes me so excited for when you actually do see a live show. that 1st impact in a show is just such a different feeling when you're right in front of the performance.
The effort is the prize.
That was a great year for drumcorps. One of the most entertaining shows of that year, only second to bluecoats, in my opinion.
What a GREAT show! I got to see it live and it was just so fun! Love it!
One of my all time favorite DCI shows. I had an opportunity to get one of the guard uniforms from this year but didn’t have enough money on me. It is still a beautiful show.
I was there at Finals in 2016 and The Academy got an unbelievable reaction...I'd say 2nd loudest reaction (Bluecoats #1). It was their first time in Finals and maybe my favorite 11th place performance of all time. (I've watched shows since the late 70s).
That song was originally done by the Everly brothers and is titled unchained melody and is the most requested song in history. Beautiful lyrics and song.
My bad, it's done by the righteous brothers
I always request Phantom Regiment 1989, but I'm also going to throw out Velvet Knights 1992. Just because it was so fun.
Do crossmen 2016 & 2019. I was there when academy. I drove for crossmen for 2016. When I first saw the color guards outfits. I tried to figure out what their show was. But once I saw it I loved it. I recognized it from the corps bribe movie.
ICONIC! Love this show, easily one of my top ten of all time.
My daughter marched this show and it was her first time marching finals. Such a great season and a great performance. I saw the show live in San Antonio a few weeks before this finals performance. I can tell it’s finals because the corps sold the grave stone space for fans to put their name. Before the finals, the grave stones had names of iconic couples.
The flugel solo is unchained melody right??
Yes. Tears every time I watch this.
Didn't place high, but without a doubt, it was the crowd favorite of the season.... BTW, did I spy an engagement ring? If so, Congratulations!
out here vibing to suggestion diabolique
Nice to see you discovering some of the non top five corps... Academy 2016 is in my top five favourite shows all time... and I marched 1987-1992 and have been a fan ever since! Such a great show with absolutely masterful design.
What a fun show! Great performance.
That’s my colorguard 🥺🤍
I live for these dci reactions tbh
BANGER
I was at that show
Hey! One of my friends from high school is the lead drum major (guy at the beginning).
React to Phantom Regiment 1993
HELL YEA
This was a GREAT show to react to. Nice, Courtney! I would recommend you to watch 2018 Bluecoats "Session 44" it's really nice! 😄☺️
hey have you looked up blue angels sneak passes? that might be a good one to do.
I wish I could still enjoy this show. After marching Academy in 2017, anything Academy related just gives me PTSD.
Glad Courtney enjoyed it, though
The 🐇 show?
That bugs bunny show was crazy! It was the Academy 15 and 16 had a baby with bunny ears lol
I had heard that that the names on the graves stones could be purchased as a Fund raiser for the Corps. It was also said that the names of past- now gone Drum Corps are on some of the stones. Not sure why the camera guy pulled away from the part where the Male character was pushed off the wall. Please add the Boston Crusaders show Goliath to your list DCI vids to watch. It will not disappoint.
React to the Blue Knights 2019 show!
I second this
Nice, Academy! You guys look and sound ultra tight. Love the solid drumline-pit connection 👌🏻
Love your Vids, New Zealand Girl!!!
oops, sorry i haven’t been on this channel lately! but i love this show so much, it’s so underrated and it’s amazing
From the title i was thinking ‘zombies’ - pretty good
React to dci cavaliers 2017
man this show is just a good show all the way though
Xylo”bones”
I have a suggestion review JB Mauney he’s a professional bull rider he’s also the world champ
I marched this show #ageout
Greaaat
Merica
Do Blue Stars 2019: Call of The Wild
You should react to the top high school marching bands in the country, you'll be surprised how good they are. Look up Tarpon Springs high school marching band and see what you think.
Hey U: dominion Comerez
Courtney, doll, your audio gain is set too high, it's making your voice audio ... less good. This has been a thing for the last few vids, so I thought I'd say something.
Still got a thumbs-up, never worry about that.
Where's is it

Typical DCI - editing out the groom falling to HIS death. eyerollemoji. still, I miss drum corps shows.
Same regurgitated content starting to get old
Then maybe pay her to react to something else or get off her channel.
If rather watch different marching band shows then watch a bunch of dumb army videos...
