  • Today I attacked some mould in the shower with a baking soda/water based paste and on stubborn areas I added a vinegar spray.
Step 1: Rinse down the area with warm water
Step 2: Make a paste with half a cup of baking soda and a few teaspoons of warm water
Step 3: Apply the paste to mouldy areas of the shower
Step 4: Spray area with vinegar (make up the bottle with equal parts water to vinegar) and spray directly on top of the baking soda paste, until the area sizzles (optional step for stubborn areas, or all over as desired)
Step 5: Let sit for at least 10 minutes
Step 6: Scrub off paste with grout brush
Step 7: Rinse down with water, scrub again with plain water using the grout brush and then rinse again
Step 8: Repeat steps 1-7 as needed for stubborn areas

I seriously thought that there's a kid singing in the background on the first few minutes of the video, only to realize it's background music. lol xD

Try a metal or steel wool sponge instead.

Chlorine bleach, not this stuff. Baking soda is just a mild abrasive.

Frank Gutowski Is Vinegar More Effective Than Bleach? Vinegar truly is better than bleach at killing mold. ... In fact, recognizing the bleach as a 'threat,' the mold will grow back even stronger.” When bleach is used on porous surfaces like drywall or wood, mold membranes will move deeper into the surface to avoid the chemical.

Several related articles claim that bleach doesn’t absorb as well into porous surfaces, but both chlorine bleach and vinegar are 95% water, so that reasoning is flawed. Also, several describe their vinegar vs bleach rationales exactly the same way, which strongly suggests they copied each other without confirming what they were saying. The internet is full of advice like that.

Bleach (5% Active Chlorine) does NOT kill mould. Vinegar (Destilled White Vinegar mixed with Baking soda) however DOES kill mould. Bleach only removes the colour of mould and it appears it is gone. It is, not gone.
