i appreciate you running this at full resolution, most channels run games at lower resolutions, for the fancy interactions, but i like the raw deal, you got a subscriber here.
Its a lot of fun. Probably my new daily driver until the legion go 2 comes out. Intel made major improvements from their really rough gen 1 chips for Ultra.
@GameTechPlanet minus game running tests. Has there been any cons like random reboots, commnd lag input if a screen is minimized, screen and icons shrinking when exiting programs. Too me this thing is middle ground what Im looking into. 32GB ram 1TB ssd Ergonomic
Wow 1200p performance is impressive. Intel XeSS is really helping this device out. FSR would have had these games looked more pixelated especially the particle effects the lower you'd go in upscaling settings but man it still looks crisp and clear with XeSS.
@@LVLTM no worries i try to test all the devices at their Native resolutions when possible. Now when I compare a 1200p device to a 1080p device i match them 1080. But thats the only time i do that. 16:10 ratio screens will be tested 800p and 1200p here whenever possible.
I'm interested to see these tests at a lower resolution too. I'd be willing to play at a lower resolution and lower wattage to maybe make the battery last a little longer at times.
If anyone is having trouble with frame latency or frametime issues, try locking the fps to 30 or 40 depending in the game, fiddling with the screen refresh rate as well. Sometimes VSync helps as well but it is completely up to user preference.
I already have the OG ROG Ally Z1E but it’s certainly not serving my needs well. The battery has degraded significantly and it’s being used more like a PS Portal than an actual handheld. Would you recommend getting this over the Ally X???
Just get the Ally X what he fails to mentions is that having to use MSI center lis complete garbage at the moment over Armory Crate. If you want to upgrade from the Ally X just wait till the Legion 2 comes out later that year which is already superior to the Claw 8
I've been trying to pick up the 8, but they have been sold out since before launch. Following since before the Jan 15th launch date to 18th and now. At least it gives me time to wait for a sale rather than impulse. I need to see how well monster Hunter performs - wilds demo was near unplayable on the steam deck.
@ My idea device would be the lgo2, but it doesn’t seem like it’ll come out for a while. In the meantime, there’s nothing wrong with messing around with a device like this.
With Nintendo Switch 2 is 8 inch screen too, I really consider spend more for this one. Really don't like big handhelds, and if it's big, it should be powerful and versatile
Build quality has been great so far. My Ally X and Legion Go are also rly good for build quality for me. I have alot more videos coming as far as performance and comparisons between the Claw 8 and Ally x and legion go. But in general the claw performs similarly to an ally x. Sometimes intel wins in fps and sometimes amd. Its nice to actually see real competition beginning.
Thanks for adding in Marvel Rivals, I play it on my Ally and noticed the same thing I see on the Claw. It's really blurry around the character models and the anti-aliasing seems non-existent. I got the aliasing issue fixed with FSR but the game just looks muddy. This example just made it clear to me that this is a game optimization issue rather then driver problems as the Claw ran everything else in the video fine... Looks like I'll be ordering a MSI Claw when they become available at Best Buy, the 1.5 hour battery on the Ally is awful.
How do og ally extreme owners feel about this device? Feel like my og ally extreme giving me pretty much the same performace as these vids even at 1080 lol
Disappointed with horizon remastered performance. I can get this to run on my ally X on low settings, fsr 3 frame gen, and Xess upscaling at 1080p averaging 60fps. I was regretting my performance for the Ally X, but for the 608 I paid, the performance I’m getting, and what I’m gonna get when my egpu dock arrives, not anymore.
The Horizon Remaster doesn’t run much better on a z1 extreme like an ally or ally x. The remaster is very hard to run. I recommend the original game for handhelds
How do you launch it? Before game or key combo? Trying to find something that would launch using MSI Claw 8 buttons since MSI Center M doesn’t work with keyboard input, only physical buttons on the device.
@ ugg one of my big complaints you will hear me talk about later lol. Not being able to just create key combo hotkeys like every other device. But yea I launch it before i launch the game. I can also use m1 + up dpad to bring up keyboard and use combo keys to toggle the overlay.
Trying to figure out why my ally x ran asetto corsa evo way better than the claw 8 using the same egpu using a Asus rx7600,,,claw 8 ran it poorly,,,,was using the loseless scaling app with both,,,,,claw 8 played evo easily when just playing on the handheld without the egpu

I think this outperforms the ROG ally x by quite a bit.. I have got an X and I don’t get this decent frame rate at 900p so this looks to be probably 10-15 percent quicker in my opinion.

Lgo2 probably wouldn’t come out till October/november and we don’t even know what ASUS is doing since they just released the X last year. I plan on getting one of these, if I can find one in stock, and then comparing to whatever comes down the line to see if it’s worth it. Specifically the legion go 2
@Francisco-i9n2b the claw is great it's probably the best handled for now, but I'm excited about the ones that will have the new z2 extreme i think it will be worth the wait.
@@bz2wat559 I wish the lgo2 was coming out sooner. Much rather play on an 8.8” Oled. I’ve been using the steam deck since it came out and I think I’m ready for a little bit of an upgrade.
Everyone has preferences. Devices like the Claw 8 and Legion Go S are a nice sweet spot for size and weight. Legion go 2 is even bigger and heavier. Its also going to be more expensive then a claw 8. Legion Go is one of my favorites and legion go 2 is my most anticipated handheld in 2025. But its not gonna be the device for everyone. So happy we have real competition and choices happening
Plenty of games that will run 60-120. These games are intentionally picked for this tound of testing because of how hard they are to run. And will be comparing to the z1 extreme which is very similar performance right now. If talk is right that the z2 extreme is more focused on a bump in efficiency then performance and offers 10-20% uplift then even later this year games like these will still run this way at 1200p. At 800p which looks fine on the 8” screen will get you much better performance in these games.
I would say dropping it to 900p (or 1050p? It's a 16:10 screen so idk) would retain the sharpness while providing good performance. Going from 1200p to 800p means you now only have less than half of original pixels, not ideal imo (unless if it's a fast paced game and every frame counts)
That's exactly why you and I should not buy it to find out, Intel has bad dx11 support it's no secret and let's not be their lab rats, just wait for legion go 2 or ROG ally 2, time flies and summer will soon arrive again.
Why 800P? That looks bad. I dont understand all these people saying it doesn't.. I can see the individual pixels at that resolution on my Steam-Deck. It's to the point i wanna sell my Steam-Deck
@ im not disagreeing the image quality of 800p on a 1200p screen is much less than 1200p native or upscaled. You can see the difference on the 8” screen. But if you want higher fps thats the trade off. The z1 extreme was marketed as a AAA 720p chip with 1080p and higher for easier to run games. Thats the trade off in pc world.
