If it were up to Charles and he had a say, I’m sure he would still be recording new Mario games😭
He’s implied before that he’s getting up in age and that it’s becoming harder to voice Mario. He was likely going to retire at some point
He can still do the voices, but I doubt he's still able to maintain them for 4 hours straight (which is how long the recording sessions approximately are). Plus, characters almost never talk normally in the games, they make very energetic and loud noises, and Charles doesn't seem to be able to do those anymore. :c That's probably why they hired a new actor.
@@Dubonus at least in the recent years, Nintendo reused Charles's voice for most of the games, his last few times recording new lines were Super Mario Odyssey, Luigi's Mansion 3, WarioWare Get It Together and Super Mario Bros Movie. In those 4 projects, we can hear that Charles's voice was starting to sound more calm and a bit more lower pitched compared to what he sounded in the 90s and 2000s.
