My understanding is that older brother wrote this as a kind of apology to his dead little sister and wrote his own character dying because of the guilt he felt. I also read that he died at the age of 95 a few years ago. I hope he finds her and she forgives him in the afterlife. She became a symbol of all the innocent people who suffer in war. Her brother greatly honored her memory.
