Thank You for watching! It’s the easiest way i have found of doing it. It leaves a clean hole too so the panels can be removed if they ever need to be.
Liking the honesty regarding the sound deadening. Been trying to work out if it's worth getting for mine. Main issue is road noise a lot of which comes straight from the front of the van so not sure how much sound deadening will help. Will probably still do a bit but not going to go overboard.
Great series. Real insight for people to see how easy it is and how it's actually quite affordable! Wish I documented mine a few years ago. Excited to see where this one goes!
@@DanChambersDAC Love the videos. Makes me more confident wrenching on my own hunk of metal ;-) I'm a T5 1.9 owner myself so your videos on that project have been a great inspiration. Can't wait to see what's next with the Golf GTI. Contemplating a Fiat 500 project myself by the way ... :D
Nice Job with the top mount replacement, was great to get some understanding what these parts are as I have my T5 booked in the have them replaced. My van is making the old boat creeping noise. Should have paid you to do them !!! Nice interesting straight forward videos enjoying watching the restoration.
Thank You so much for watching and for the comment. Yes I have done that on previous conversions. This one was not being converted as a full camper so I didn't take it that far.
Fit your towbar harness before fully carpeting...just saying. Even with all holes taped, the red dust in Australia manages to find its way thro the carpet!
Awesome video, just discovered your channel and in process of catching up. Thanks for the tips, Great workmanship, enjoyed watching. Thanks for sharing this video 👍👍👏👏✌🤟🤞🙏🤗
Thanks for taking the time to do this build for youtube Dan, it's good to see someone go into so much detail, but did you cut the jack mount off on the wheel arche inside the van ?? my T5 has one after pulling the old ply off
Thank You for watching and for the comment! Yes i did! I forgot to film it though🤦♂️ I did id a similar way to removing the bulkhead lip by grinding the weld down.
Thank you for watching 🙏 I did it this way as i am not going mad with insulation. TBF you could do it this way if you were going mad with insulation too as i cut the openings back out.
Enjoyed the vid, cheers. I’m guessing the rubber door seals will just slot over the carpet which will look super neat. Will there be any problem with water wicking in?
Thank You for watching and for the comment! Yes the seals cover the edge of the carpet. No problems with water getting in as the seal position is not changed.
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment, Cost mainly. You don't need to put it in. I didn't have insulation in my roof for a few years and never found it to be a problem as it was only used for weekends/weeks away.
Thank you for watching and for the comment! So glad you have enjoyed the video's and they have inspired you! the clips are called fir tree clips and I got them from Ebay.
Thank you for watching and for the comment! I did this as it helps a little with insulation. another layer if you will. Just cutting it away isn't very neat either!
Great stuff! New subscriber. I know in housing insulation you’re often only as good as your weakest link, usually studs and windows here in the states, does the insulation really make a difference?
Thank you for watching and for the comment! If you go all out with the insulation yes. My Crafter has around 5 8x4 sheets of foam insulation and 16 rolls of it.
They were from ebay. Link is here:- rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F371561542163 These are for 8mm holes so just check the hole size you have.
Thank you for watching 🙏 I didn’t use that as getting to B&Q was going to be a pain! Im only 10 mins from Transporter HQ and am good friends with them so i socially distance collected some from them. Great and easy to work with product.
Hi. I'm a new subscriber. Great work, very inspiring. Quite a few useful suggestions, although I'm not a native speaker and I don't understand 100% of what you say 😉 I see you didn't put insulation on the floor. Are you going to do that later, or not do that at all? If not, why?
The condensation will cause mold under all the hollow covered parts when the van is used as a camper in winter . Should have covered these with PE sheets on the "warm" side first.Hidden mold can cause respiratory problems very quickly!
Not a waste of time at all, i've learnt quite a bit from your videos, do keep up the good work.
Thank you for watching and for the comment. Glad I am helping people out!
Why am i watching this and the whole playlist?? Because i'm gonna have to buy a T5 and do this!! 👍🏻 great work!!

Loving the soldering iron tip mate , just used this on my own build , always learning thanks dan 😃

5:11 Wasn't expecting your first T5 to look like that, looks unreal!! 😍
Thank You for watching and for the comment! Man I miss that T5! Had to sell it to fund the VW Crafter build that I currently live in full time!
Thank you! I have a red 2005 T5 I keep putting off converting. You have inspired me. Many thanks!

Thank you for watching 🙏 exactly that, you can throw big money about but it is possible to get a useable van for little money.
Excellent trick with the soldering iron!

Why wasn't the insulation done first? Just wondered. Your way is the first way I've seen this done.

Great videos, thanks for the info. Any particular reason for not putting insulation in the roof?

@@DanChambersDAC OK, thanks. I'm looking for a van to buy at the moment that will be for occasional use so won't bother then
do you recomend to insulate the roof I'm stuck weather or not to do it.
its not a conversion but just making it look better & nicer
Just watched all your vids.great job......do u know who collin furze is? U look and sound just like him 🤷♂️
Thank you for watching and for the comment! 😂 I have been told this by a few comments on here! I can't see it!
Hes just got the same accent 😂
Hey Dan, Loving the video! Do you have a link or a description for where you got those nice grey panel clips from? Thanks!
Cheers bud. They are 8mm Fir Tree Clips off eBay.
You have inspired me to carpet my van. What are those clips called to clip in the ply panels? Thanks.
Thank you for watching and for the comment! So glad you have enjoyed the video's and they have inspired you! the clips are called fir tree clips and I got them from Ebay.
Hi Dan, do you have a link for the fir tree clips you used to put the carpeted panels back on? Can't seem to see one in the description
Hi Dan good video I. what thickness ply did you use for the floor. Thanks
Thank you for the comment and for watching! i used 12mm Ply for the floor.
I m curious, why do you put the liner on the van in the upper cavities if you anyway put insulation over it? Thank you 😊
Thank you for watching and for the comment! I did this as it helps a little with insulation. another layer if you will. Just cutting it away isn't very neat either!
Was the roof standard headliner or was that ply also? Great work lad!!
Thank you for the comment! The rear liner was plywood.
I guessing all self taught, wicked job mate, looking like factory trim inside.🤟👍
Thank You for watching! Yes pretty much all self taught. Really enjoy trying to solve problems!
Great vid, what fixings did you use for the ply?
Thank you for watching 🙏 i forgot to add that link to the video 🤦♂️ i will add the link in 🤙

Where do you get the clips for the panels?

These are for 8mm holes so just check the hole size you have.
How long did it take to do everything?
Thank you for watching! The carpeting etc took around a day and a half.
What size fir tree fixings did you use to secure the panels with? Thanks
8mm bud.

Outta interest how comes you never used the the cheaper B&Q recycled plastic bottle top insulation? That I’ve seen used so many times?

I see you didn't put insulation on the floor. Are you going to do that later, or not do that at all? If not, why?
Thank you. I didn't put insulation in the floor in any of my T5 van's I have built. You could put foam insulation down but I opted not to.
You forgot to put a plastic barrier over insulation condensation in van will rust it and it is a vw lol
No I didn't forget it.

What’s the cost so far?
Thank you for watching! I will do a video on cost's once it is completed as i still have a fair amount to spend.
soooooooooo much carpet and no windows or roof vents 😢 your attention to details, however, clap clap clap
Thank you for watching and for the comment! There will be windows eventually. This is however staying as an empty van.
