Brian Mccann Pop it open and see if they've used a chassis for it, some of them they were shipping had the electronics and sound board just hanging, causing it to swing around inside the hilt causing damage and screwing up the electronics. This was a big problem people had with them, that's why some of the higher end saber forge companies are now using an internal chassis build to contain the electronics making them much more durable.
Not saying this is still the case and if they have switched to the chassis build then you got an amazing saber for the price, if it doesn't and the electronics are exposed you might want to be very careful with any sort of clashing.

Mute R6 bullshit. The quality of the actual hilt is great, and it makes me fanboy extremely hard, but they’re trash for heavy dueling. Already damaged my $50 blade. Better for collecting? I’d say so but that’s subjective. Better for dueling? You’d have an easier time using that stick you found in the woods when you were 13.

altair m the Disney sabers are park interactive, with story driven content.
Which is something I like, but not sure if the $200 price tag equates to $200 worth of content. I would rather see a lightsaber valued at $800 to a $1,000 dollars be of ultrasaber quality, with the interactive crystal features of the Disney saber and also a healthy amount of content which include exclusive events, dinner with a New Republic Admiral or First Order Admiral, a Jedi saber class with Rey or Kylo Ren, and maybe a scavenger hunt around the park to collect all the components for the lightsaber. Sure a $1,000 is pricey AF, and would mean less sabers in the park, but the allure of being rare would make those that bought them feel really earned something special.

I won one from a raffle, and the last was was a free gift when one of my sabers was on back order so I paid extra shipping fee to get my brothers 2nd saber and my raffle prize right away as opposed to getting everything when my prophecy v3 was in stock. I've had my ultrasaber since I was 10 and im 16 now. I've been in dozens of duels, I've broke cinder blocks, and bashed it against trees for 6 years and it still is completely durable. Worth the 120 bucks for sure. Of course I didn't have the obsidian sound board or the extra button leds either I had mine made with high rated aluminum and a thick a little over an inch plastic tubing. Made for the intent of dueling. It all depends on how you design your saber.

Honestly, I had my share of problems with ultrasabers when first getting into this hobby. But, after a year of more sabers from different companies, I've learned that it really depends on the maker. Most all of these saber makers are hobbyists that had a great thing to start and got into a market with demand. You'll never get a perfect saber, but, you'll get what you pay for. I've never had a problem with ultrasabers' and their warranty program, which has always treated me great. Personal experiences of course, others will have different ones.

Keep in mind, that when a manufacturer has certain options as "included", such as A/V switch, covertech wheel, etc., the cost of that is already added into the price. It's just how business is done. In my opinion, offering sabers with the less expensive option (switch), and without the covertech, allows the buyer to save the money if they don't want or need the option. I, for example, don't like the covertech system. It's a personal thing, I don't like the way they only can swing on one axis while on the belt. I don't want to have paid for one, nor have the drilled and tapped hole to have to deal with filling. As far as chassis, yeah, they are neat, both in terms of tidy and the nifty factor. Again, another expense that translates into the sales price. If you have a reveal saber, then sure, chassis is important. While I agree, US could do something, or at least offer something, to help keep the battery pack from moving freely inside, and that all the models could benefit from an LED retention screw, the wires, once those items are secure, being run loose inside the tube isn't a problem. Securing both is also super easy to DIY. I ran a single layer of electrical tape around the LED housing on mine, and cut two circles of flat packing foam, that I attached to the battery pack with glue. Easy, peasy. Ultra Sabers, in my experience, are sturdy, comfortable, reasonably priced, of a consistent quality, and easily customized.

    • @cultofmalgus1310
      @cultofmalgus1310 5 років тому +4

isnt it like a $200 price hike at Saberforge just for electronics? I like US because I have a ground basis to work up to. I can get a working saber without spending extra but I can tack on small things I want here and there without adding things I dont really want and paying for all of it in the price. Personally I think US has one of the best business models around, not just for sabers but in general. I would like them to extend to a 60 or 90 day warranty for any design flaws like faulty wiring and other defects. But since they make such resilient products that really shouldnt be a problem. I'm not talking about blades breaking, scratches, or just not wanting it. I'm talking just for any issues with the design. Implement that and I dont think they could make their business model any more fair really.

Well I hope you have a better experience with Saberforge than I'm having. I ordered a Sentinel from them in frigging _February_ and I still don't have it. It's been nothing but wait, send email and get bland corporate excuse, wait some more, send another much more irate email, get bland corporate excuse... you get the idea. I'm waiting to hear back from them now, and if they tell me something else went wrong or it's going to be another X business days due to some unspecified or vague issue, I'm demanding a refund. It sucks to have waited this long just to have to cancel the order because I have no faith in their ability or willingness to actually fulfill that order, but that's life. I was going to order from Ultrasabers, but after watching videos like this and reading comments, I'm seriously considering just abandoning the whole idea. Which, again, sucks, but that is also life; sometimes you don't get to do what you want to do.

    The thing is:
All the things that are mentioned are things you can easily insulate yourself.
Add a little insulating stuffing Insulating foam or rock wool for example)to the hilt and the battery pack is protected.
Additional switches etc do come with the price of a lot of sabers from other companies.
But, they charge much higher prices and don't allow you to buy something below 250 dollars.
So especially when you just wants a cool sturdy stunt saber without fancy shit Ultrasabers is your choice.
Plus my preferred customer service individual (Marlena) was an absolute sweetheart.
And i live about 7000 km away from their HQ in Texas so her help was much appreciated on the occasions that i needed help with any of my 5 sabers.
Btw the reason that i needed some help at time is because i basically used my stunt sabers as full blown HEMA sparring weapons.
I've smashed it against blunt steel sparring swords and it held up with the ultra edge heavy grade blades.
That is way beyond the torture testing any normal user would put their sabers through.

But we shouldn't have to insulate it ourselves. That's the point of a quality product. If I'm going to go over $200 for the PERFECT lightsaber for me, I shouldn't have to continue to upgrade it from the best they have. Granted, pricing wise, to get an expensive lightsaber, you have to get all of the options, but that's what I want. I want the best they offer. If the best still requires tweaking from my end, the I would urge myself to look elsewhere first. I'm not saying that I expect a perfect saber from any company, but I do expect honest reviews about them, and all of their downfalls.
As far as customer service, like mentioned in the video, it seems a bit hit or miss. When you have a genuine question about their product, they seem to be faster to respond than say a complaint about their product. It's understandable, I'm sure all customer service representatives want to get a say from their superiors before helping a customer with a complaint, but it still takes a while before they get back to you.
Finally, about their durability. It's more than what you can expect. By that I mean, generally, when buying a product like this, you should take what is reviewed with a grain of salt. You should expect that the durability is going to let you down. No, there is no company that has a saber that can hold up to the worst of conditions that you could try to put it through, however, the sabers from ultrasabers hold up pretty damn well if you get the best blade options that they have.
I leave with this, with the quality that they offer (if you're wallet is big enough), one would expect something as trivial as rattling or unsecure parts be addressed before it made its way to the customer.
I feel that this video was a fair review. It addresses a lot of things that new buyers should be aware of before making such a large comment (even a $60 purchase is quite a price tag for some).

I have more than 40 lightsaber, including all of the Master Replicas (pre-Hasbro), a dozen Park's sabers, & 21 Ultrasabers. All of the Ultrasabers are fully-loaded except for two which were free bonus sabers or prizes. The ones I purchased are in The $400-500 price range. The service has always been great, the sabers all arrived in perfect condition exactly as ordered, none has ever failed despite intense use, & best of all I received a custom-built saber in about a week.
Rattling battery packs only apply to stunt sabers (light only) but is easily rectified with a bit of foam. Sabers with sound don't rattle.
On Grab Bag & Mystery sabers: I don't understand why people make this sort of purchase? Select the saber you want, spec it out, & place the order! Ordering blindly makes no sense to me?
Personally I am super pleased with Ultrasabers & highly recommend them.

The Mystery Box and Grab Bag sabers are fun, if you are willing to accept whatever you get. The good part is that you are guaranteed to get a saber worth AT LEAST what you pay for the item, and if you order the $200 Mystery Box, it is also guaranteed to have sound (and still be worth at least the $200 purchase price). So if you like surprises, it can be fun.
If, on the other hand, you're buying a Grab Bag or a Mystery Box hoping to "hit the jackpot" and get the super-duper-upgraded nowhere-near-basic hilt with Diamond sound, and won't be happy with anything less, then I agree with you, it's not the best purchasing decision to make.

I've bought I think eight sabers from then, and except for two I've had great experiences. The customer support is great, and while I did have to get kinda mean with them on the second one they were really professional and okay with what I said. At least it seems like it.
So I got the dark standard issue battle saber and I ordered it with the grooves on the hilt. Well they emailed me a few days later and said that they only had the plain ones. Well I wasn't about to wit two months for them to get the grooved ones in, so I opted for the plain hilt. Turned put to be the right choice anyway. Plus they upgraded the switch to the black AV for the trouble.
As for the second one, that's where things were a little messy. I ordered the dark mantis, and they emailed me the next day saying they didn't have the model with the clawed emitter. So rather than just sending it with the claws, they said I could either change the color of the hilt, PAY for the emitter with claws, or wait 6-8 weeks before they got the one without claws. Mind you, this was the very next one after the battle saber issue, so I said they could give me the silver one without claws, but after this I would never buy from them again and fond another vendor. Now this was my fourth saber I had bought from them, so I guess they didn't want to lose me. Well, after speaking with my wallet, they emailed back saying the manager went to the convention stock and I would be getting it the way I ordered.
Now that was well over a year ago, and I've bought several more from them with no problems at all. They usually arrive in a few days since I'm so close to Houston. I actually just ordered the initiate le v5 yesterday, and it'll be my first yellow lightsaber.
Another thing that's great about Ultrasabers is the price. For my 21st birthday last year I ordered Vader's from them, and I customized it exactly how I wanted. V4 soundboard, black AV switch, orange flash on clash. With upgraded shipping and tax it was a just under 500 dollars. That sounds like a lot, but you have to consider what these things actually are. If you go to SaberForge or another company, you'll end up spending that much for what would basically be a saber with basic sound for US.
Also, and this is just a personal thing, but I like the size. I'm just under 6'2 and have VERY large hands, and nothing has felt too small for me except the free initiate I got on one order, and it was an old model that I wasn't going to buy anyway. Plus, they have different hilts that really fit all seven forms. The curved hilt is especially good for form two, obviously.
In short, it's a very good company that is actually worth what you pay for, and it's unlikely that you'll have any problems with them.

From what I've seen that's pretty common with many saber websites. It's usually because they can sell the hilt on its own so that price is usually the "starting price" since some people buy their own blades or are DIY. The only company I've seen so far that puts the minimum price - max price range for their sabers is bendu armory, who specializes in making sabers with carbon fiber hilts.
I went on Vader's vault to check their prices and their lowest price saber is around $350, I clicked on it thinking it was for the whole saber, but it was the price for the hilt. But Vader's vault is known to be the high end of the big three of ultrasabers, saberforge, and Vader's vault. Some other good ones are electrum sabers (great saber designs, cheaper than Vader's vault, has an app that connects to the saber through your phone to change colors and other options, and doesn't take sometimes almost a year to ship like VV) and bendu armory (carbon fiber sabers that are just really cool. They also sell replicas of ahsokas clone wars sabers.
      Hope this helps!

I picked up an UltraSaber last summer and I love it. It took me approximately 6 months to research several different places to buy an expensive saber for cosplay and light sparing, so I settled on US based on all the reviews I read/watched and the information presented on their website. My purchase was about $275 shipped and customized to my requests, the shipping was super fast, and all of their terms (warranty, returns, customization, etc) all seemed fair and standard to me. Since then, I have had the pleasure of speaking to the owner and a couple other customer service reps through email for some details on other things I had been considering and I found them all to be polite and very helpful. The construction of my saber was well done, however the ONLY complaint I had (which is somewhat mitigated by my own usage) was that the battery unit is a little flimsy and doesn't hold up to being dropped or full contact sparring. My battery unit broke near the end where the unit and speaker meet. I've since fixed it with super glue with no worries or issues afterward. Hope this reply helps!

As a recent US customer, I can see where some people might’ve thought their early/entry line of sabers looked a bit plain, or similar. The opposing side to that is where are you going to find a decent stunt saber that’s durable at that price? Or possibly just end up with an empty hilt at the US price point.
Covertec wheels and all the extra nuts and bolts are nice, but not everyone wants them on every saber. I am a fan of detail in certain models, but sometimes less is more depending on the model or what I’m using it for.
I think US has come a long way and their pricing is pretty comparable to other companies for the higher end sabers. And there are some options that cost extra with almost all of the better saber-smiths. There are some companies that are more movie accurate on certain models (but not all), have limited editions that have amazing attention to detail-but you pay well for those details. There are also other companies who have a different variety of tiers, like US, at a price that’s very comparable. However, they also have their good and bad points, similarity of design across their base line of products, etc... They also have their haters as well as people who have nothing but good to say about them on many of these same points you’ve made in this video.
Being new to the sabers community, but not at all new to collecting and the variety of tastes among collectors-this is nothing new, or exclusive to the saber community. What I’ve learned is to collect what you like, sample the fruits from various makers, and enjoy the variety. To those who have collected nothing but US, a company like SaberForge might look like a good place to find, or expand on the variety of designs available. But couldn’t we say the same thing to someone who entered the community buying exclusively from SF, then discovering new and different designs from US?
One final point of collecting is to judge for yourself. It’s like buying a new car and switching to Chevy after being an avid Ford buyer. If you get a lemon, then all Chevy makes are bad in that person’s eyes. It’s all really a matter of perspective. And that’s best developed by experimenting and discovery through an open mind.

I believe it’s 2-4 weeks, and they are already pre-made, just needing shipping. So if you want ultimate custom ability, go with the main website. It’s 4 weeks-10 months but you cam make it look like anything you want available. If you’re on a slightly lower budget, go with the Etsy website. They will deliver, with good customer service but not as customizable. Your choice: service and speed, or customization.

Working with support on that, I'll keep you posted with what happens. On the rattling, yes, I can hear something kind of loose in there which is a bit unsettling, but I'm sure I can fine a way to fix it. Other than that, for my first lightsaber, I really love it! Can you *get* to the full electronics easily or does it require disassembling most of the hilt? If you can get to it easily, would putting something like that, or even BubbleWrap, help? I'd love an answer, as a saber like this is no small investment and I'd like to know everything I can before ordering. Thanks.

The Ultrasabers warranty is trustworthy and prompt. The sale that was in effect when I made the purchase (Cyber Monday) still applied for my warranty. In addition to getting a replacement I had a choice of anything in the catalog and paying the difference after applying the discount. So I had the chance to live Cyber Monday over again. It took longer to decide than it took to receive it. LoL!
I'm waiting on my warranty from Saberforge and this is week two. When I emailed customer service about the status of the warranty they replied with any time between one to four weeks. Communication is also minimal.
To compensate for the extra space in the Ultrasabers stunt sabers just insert a dust cap it is about the length of a speaker module. Plus that way I don't misplace it while the blade is inserted in the emitter.
We plan to purchase more Ultrasabers, accessories and upgrades in the future to share on my UA-cam channel for those who want a customer's point of view.

Emory is super cool, but Ultrasabers just isn't for me. Their electronics are weak (they're the best of the big saber companies, I just prefer custom electronics), the sabers are too big for my liking (and that's coming from a 6'2" 300lbs guy, but I like small sabers or polearm sabers), and the customization is a little lackluster (but again, that's just preference, not a problem with the sabers themselves). I've never had any issues with an Ultrasabers hilt, electronics, or customer service, my skepticism is purely from aesthetics. If you like the looks of their sabers, then you should definitely get them. They make quality sabers and Emory is a great guy and is very passionate about what he does, it's just about aesthetics in the end.

Sorry in advance for the essay, but if you're on the fence about lightsabers then please read all of it. I do heavy sparring with bokken and other training swords and explain in detail why you need an ultrasaber for heavy sparring. I've done lots of research.
I hear the mega high quality lightsabers like neopixels are much more fragile then ultrasabers. Ultrasabers made their claim to fame as the ultimate heavy dueling lightsabers and you can get one pretty cheap and very strong. It's something that I value. I'm getting my first ultrasaber in about a week. A $283 pyrestone orange dominix v5 saber with ultraedge heavy grade blade. My brother is getting a $279 blue violet amethyst aoen v5 to contrast it. We've used polypropylene swords to spar for the better part of a decade and they are insanely durable. We don't want to be terrified of breaking a $650 lightsaber and we mainly got the idea to get lightsabers because we prefer to fight at night/evening when it's much cooler temperature. If you're doing choreographed gentle sparring like for acting, saber competitions, or just showing off your expensive toys then a neopixel would probably be perfect for you, but I need something that is reliable, durable, and has easily replaceable blades. I can replace an ultraedge heavy blade for $10-15, or a neopixel blade for $80-100 and it will still be weaker than the ultrasaber blade.
*TO BE CLEAR* the single greatest thing about ultrasabers is that you can get a super durable stunt blade without sound for full/heavy contact authentic sparring for $70 and you'll be able to use it to train all hours of the day. The polypropylene swords are black plastic and basically invisible when it's dark even if you've got outside lights on. We are spending a bunch of money because we want to have a great first lightsaber experience with sound and flash on clash and all that. It's by no means necessary to spend a bunch of money. You can get powerful lightsabers mega cheap from ultrasabers and they won't let you down.

My only dislike so far with ultrasabers is some of their hilts get overly large. I do like they come to my local comi-con

Agreed, the fulcrum was ridiculous. Couldn't even grip it all the way around, so forget any flashy choreographic dueling, and even wielding it felt like I'm holding an axe as opposed to an elegant weapon for a more civilized time...

My experience with Ultrasabers has been nothing but positive. I've purchased 2 sabers from them, the first being a stunt saber, the second being a 'premium sound' saber, along with more blades and accessories such as the adjustable blade coupler.
When it comes to whether or not these non-officially licensed lightsabers are 'ugly' or 'plain', that's all based on personal preference. I initially bought these because I was interested in participating in actual lightsaber duels, as opposed to simply 'play fighting' or doing fight choreography with them. Now, most of the lightsaber 'duels' I have been in (only 2 gatherings so far) saw my Ultrasabers outlast every other lightsaber duelist's equipment fail or not be up to par for hard lightsaber dueling.
Hasbro extendable blade lightsaber toys? I had to restrain myself from breaking their toys. If anything, they broke their own toy grade lightsaber blades on my Ultrasabers' Heavy Grade blades.
Force FX Lightsaber Replicas? (Master Replicas or Habro's Black Series) - When I saw these, the wielders asked everyone to NOT hit the blades too hard and these wielders were more interested in the "cosplay" aspect of these gatherings, i.e. posing for pictures, taking pictures, etc., and not actual lightsaber dueling.
Cheap toy lightswords? (Like the ones you get at the dollar stores.) These cheaply made toys always broke apart, even when hit against the exact same cheap toys. (You literally get what you pay for)
I'm very happy with my Ultrasabers purchases. The products I ordered are a lot more durable than I imagined and the fact that they can stand up to so much abuse is what makes me use my Ultrasabers lightsabers at dueling events.
I also have Saberforge lightsabers that I purchased and while I'm quite happy with those as well, I am a bit disappointed by the length of their hilts as well as how the hilts feel in your hand. Saberforge's offerings, even the standard ones, are definitely a lot prettier and look like they belong in the Star Wars Universe, but they are not as comfortable to grip in the hand as the Ultrasabers lightsabers.
Sure, the Ultrasabers hilts do indeed resemble flashlights, but ironically, the original props from the very first Star Wars film were made from actual flashlights.
Overall, Ultrasabers are my go-to lightsabers for actual, hard dueling. Saberforge lightsabers are for dueling and Force FX and extendable blade lightsabers are for display pieces.

I like ultrasabers for the same reason I don't like saberforge, Money. Saberforge is stupid expensive. Hilts that cost Damn near 200 dollars before electronics is kinda ridiculous when, in my experience, you can get the same quality for cheaper with Ultrasabers. I don't actually dislike Saberforge though, I just can't afford it.

Then again, most of my experience is from Airsoft where most retailers actually give a damn about their customers, or at least have customers that wont put up with clear cash grabs.

I seen all the ultrasaber grab bag/mystery boxes videos on youtube and it does indeed apear that you get what you paid for or even more than what you paid for because of all the custom additions it may have. Its obvious that these sabers were pre-custom sabers from other peoples orders that they either cancelled but the saber was built and or returned sabers that either ordered by mistake or they can't afford it unlikey they will sell you a faulty saber haven't seen anyone or heard anyone complain about the saber being faulty in these grab bags/mystery boxes.

To the people knocking US for having cheap components, custom sabers are not a cheap hobby. These are all handmade or custom-made, with a very small hobbyist, niche userbase. You can't buy a dueling illuminated saber at Walmart for $19.95. Ultrasabers caters towards the budget end of this hobby intentionally for people to dip their toes into the water and seeing what it's all about. No, they're not going to have the bells and whistles of a Parks or a Vader's Vault. You also aren't buying a Vaders Vault for $100 either. You're getting what you pay for. Everyone complains and whines that "Waah, I can't buy a good saber for less than $300" and dumps on Ultrasabers every chance it gets for not being as good as the premium options. Sorry guy, that's not how a niche hobby works. Two separate ends of the spectrum. Ultrasabers are budget sabers, with a budget price point. If it's not for you, ignore it, they're not made for you. The customer service is inexcusable, however.

@@Z4PpEd That's awesome man! Nice. :) US is great way to go and try out the hobby. Who knows, maybe get some other people into it too. Saying that you can pick up a customized dueling lightsaber for as cheap as $55 is a lot easier than saying yeah, you can pick up a custom built dueling lightsaber for about $500. XD That's a lot harder than saying you can pick one up for just $55. :P [The one cravat with that is if you do pick up that particular $55 model you'll need to throw in an additional 10 bucks to get a different blade other than the short 24 inch blade that comes stock with it. However if it's for an 8 year old kid you probably don't have to bother. :) ]

US was the first saber I bought after getting my FX Vader Empire Stikes back saber. I had just found out about it soon after getting my lightsaber so I gave them a try back in 2009. I got what they called the Dark Apprentice at the time. It was from their old E-Series line and it was the PVC curved hilt design. I still have it too and I use it a lot. It was just a plain black hilt with a consular green blade. It's funny it took me 10 years to get around to getting more sabers but I will always choose US for their price points, good customer support, fast shipping, resilient products, larger hilts for my big hands, and mostly practical designs (I dont like too much decoration on my blades, and an owner with the best hairline I've ever seen in my life lol.
I just put in an order last night for the Sentinel LE V4 with covertec wheel, windows, silver av switch, and guardian blue blade. I also got myself an offhand Initiate V3 with Violet blade. Both are just stunt sabers to practice with but I'll be able to carry my Sentinel! In the next 2-3 months I'll be getting a Prophecy V3 with Illuminated White Black AV switch, Tri Arctic Blue blade, gold covertec wheel, and obsidion lite sound board, a Dominix LE V4 Stunt with Red blade, silver AV, no windows, and a Bellicose with black blade plug, TRI Red, Bronze upper button, and Illuminated Yellow Silver AV, and Obsidion Lite Soundboard. I'll be taking the Bellicose to events for sure!

Ultrasabers don't use inner chassis to protect their electronics ' the LED module is not held in place to prevent shock if the blade is forced into the handle which results in broken buttons and LED and wires coming loose ' there charge ports melts the circuits ' they use cheap batteries ' all this after you spend your money for the top tier diamond series ' vader's vault are the rolls Royce of light sabers and for the price are second to none

There’s a store in Oregon City called Saber Forge, with a large showroom filled with Ultra Sabers, which you can try out a pre built Ultra Sabers before buying them. My job is located in Portland and the minimum wage is currently $14.75 per hour, which, starting July 1st, will increase to $15.45 per hour, which is hefty. The minimum wage is determined by where you work. My job is located in Portland, thus the minimum wage I will be earning. I have no prior experience with either Ultrasabers or Saberforge, however I have two orders currently being fulfilled from Saberforge (a sorcerer & grandmaster) and was looking for Ahsoka's replica (Ka'Tano/Phoenix) there, but it was sold out, so I'll be looking for a similar saber from Ultrasabers. I figure this way I can order from both companies and compare the experience. If you are a new saber buyer what I'd say about Ultrasabers is:
    1. create an account and step through the saber building process on their site. It's a little more complex than other sites. Once you get accustomed to how they structure their offerings, you can make better decisions based on your tastes, budget, etc.
    2. The videos Emory makes on each of the sabers are usually pretty helpful. It's nice being able to see a company display the hilt on camera so you can get a sense of how it looks in-hand, etc.
    3. Saber buyers are some of the most picky people on the face of the planet. As a result, these saber companies sometimes have to enforce sales policies that would seem really bad at any other company. These are custom built sabers, so returning this stuff isn't like returning your average toy or prop. Reselling custom built sabers is harder to do than reselling stock/empty ones.
    4. Email or call them with questions, and gauge for yourself what the quality of the response is. Let them know you're a first time saber buyer.
    Thanks for the helpful video!

I just recently bought 2 sabers for the first time. Once i had made my choices I noticed an add at the top of the screen where i could have gotten 2 free sabers with my order. I emailed and asked if i could get the coupons added for the free sabers and there was no issues with that. It took awhile to get them but they came and were wrapped in bubble wrap and very clean and well packaged. The only real downside i would say is that there are no real instructions for how to use or care for the sabers. You have to go onto the website and kinda poke around. If your a real Star Wars fan and are tired of the cheap plastic and making the sounds with your mouth i would recommend ultrasabers. Expensive but worth it. For cosplay or just for show i would go to Target or Amazon instead. Good luck and may the Force be with you always.

I guess my first email made it seem like I was upset with the amount of time it was taking for the lightsaber to be delivered even though it was delivered in the window of time listed on the website. • @Marcus21H

Great video, I like how you pointed out flaws and warnings without being to critical. I have had only minor problems with my ultrasabers, I love them, and will continue to do business with the company itself. I think one of the things many people complain about is they buy and ultrasaber because they are fairly affordable, but the expect a Saberforge quality saber, and when they don't get that they tend to be pretty disappointed. I love Ultrasabers and I own about 10 maybe a couple more of their sabers, and I can tell you while they are great products they do have their flaws. That being said I want to share these two points.
    1) When you mentioned how the battery pack is loose and rattles inside was spot on. I don't know how many owners (both new and old) realize, but it actually creates a pretty significant problem. Over the course of the sabers like, and especially if you play with/duel with them like I do, the battery pack can eventually crack or break due to being rattled around so much which oviously causes problems like interrupting the flow of electricity and not working properly. Luckily this is easily fixed as a replacement battery cradle is fairly cheap and has simple wiring. A great preventative measure and something I do personally, is I stuff toilet paper or pieces of and old T-shirt into the saber after I've put the battery pack in. What that does is give much needed support and padding to the battery pack and keeps it from taking a lot of abuse. It also greatly lessens and actually almost eliminates any rattle in the saber. Since I've starting doing this I have not had a single issue with my sabers. Do keep in mind this only applies to the stunt sabers that have no sound or other fancy internals. The sabers with sound obviously need an unblocked speaker to project that sound along with the fact the internal spacing is pretty much designed for this style and the problem isn't as significant as it is with stunt sabers.
    2) This is pretty much just my personal opinion. The UltraEdge blades are really not that great. I highly recommend the regular blades, because when they are turned on they look much better and washout the color as much. Especially in bright light and with the specialty style colors like Violet, Sun Rider's destiny and Arctic Blue.

    • @KrisCox
      @KrisCox 4 роки тому

Now see, I disagree with you on Point 2, because although I DO think the standard (non-UltraEdge) blade looks really cool, but I prefer the smooth look of the UltraEdge to the "light in a tube" look that you get with the standard blade. I get that the "light in a tube" look is more "realistic" to how the sabers are described (plasma contained by a field), but to my tastes, the full-width, even color of the UltraEdge blade just looks more appealing. I respect your right to have a different opinion than I have, though, so enjoy your sabers!
Also, on Point 1, you're also right; I use a small piece of a (brand new) kitchen scrubbing sponge cut down to fit in the cavity between the end of the battery case and the base of the pommel. I make it just a LITTLE bit too big, so the sponge is compressed a little bit, but still has room to flex some, too.

Update for 2021 - Anybody asking for refunds from Ultrasabers being told they will need to pay a restocking fee needs to know that there is an explicit consumer law that applies to transactions online. If a company fails to deliver within the estimated delivery window, OR if it is not delivered in a reasonable amount of time (generally determined to be 30 days by almost all case law), you can get a full refund for your order. If they do not comply, simply file a case with your bank or credit card company and report it as fraud.

Funny thing About US is I had always considered them budget, and was surprised to see their pricing since I haven't looked at buying a saber in years and years. I remember US when they got started making the first "Stunt" sabers out of PVC (IIRC, they coined the term). They were absurdly low-cost, sparring worthy, and very plain. If you just needed a dueling saber or a loaner or wanted to start but didn't have a big budget, you got an US Stunt saber.
Now I'd say they seem a little overpriced. The modern rattle is NOTHING like it used to be in those old PVC tubes, though! xD They did do the first hobbyist Dooku-style hilts that were mass produced (That's an important note since a few smiths did make curved hilts before that). To be clear, that was back in like... what? '05? '06? It was a while ago.
Also I hate how the comments assume that ANY CRITICISM MEANS YOU HATE SOMETHING. But that's endemic to a lot of fandom - Star Wars fandom especially, lately.
I'll note that lately it feels like every saber company has either nothing in stock or they're backed up to next season. I was looking at buying a new saber for the first time in... uh... When did that Force FX Construction Kit I needed for parts come out? *googles*
Oh. Uhm. It's been a minute since I was in the hobby, is all I'm saying, and I think all the things I've read have convinced me that, since I don't want to drop 300$+ on a saber I might be better off making my own from scratch again. Ah well, if you can, you should, I suppose. As it was meant to be. When's the next charter to Illum?...

I would say that a restocking fee on a custom build isn't ridiculous if they've already started building your order or finished it and you cancel their order my guess is your unfinished or finished product would then be added to the mystery bag or grab bag batch which depending on how many improvements you requested could mean a lot

Why does that initiate saber on the very right look super dim?

My Ultrasaber is leaps and bounds better than my Saberforge. Saberforge may have more customization options, but the lightsaber I got from them has loose fittings and the hilt jiggles in the middle. My Ultrasaber grab bag on the other hand is super solid, the blade has 2 retention screws instead of one, and the grab bag saber (a $75 value) I got was worth $104. I asked them to give my lightsaber a little extra love with the packaging (I don’t trust FedEx), and they triple wrapped it in heavy bubble wrap for me!
