Congratulations, I don't know if you are aware but a snippet of this video on finishing MDF has just appeared on the Stumpy Nubbs channel. That must be a testament that you ARE doing something right. Well done.
@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop nice! I saw that Shaun only uses 1 finger on the back of the continental filling knife which then doesn't apply/remove as consistently as when you use 3/4 fingers on the back of the knife, didn't know if this was just the video?
@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop I used some fine finish surface filler during the week rather than standard wood filler I use so going to see how they compare
About to have a go at building my first kitchen. Can't decide between wood doors (quite like the cracks, grain and character etc) though this does make MDF a lot more appealing.
@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop That's a pretty good idea mate :D had a look around the vinyl wrapped MDF doors in a store that sounds like smicks the other day, just found they looked like scratched mfd doors, not wood. I'll nip down champions and have a gander at their Veneered stuff tomorrow, any other places you recommend getting it from?
Really! That's strange, I have never once had that problem in rhe 100+ times I've done it. Did you leave a thick layer of filler on the pack? That's the only way I can think that would happen
Have you ever used the edge tec disc for the table saw, meant to do unreal job on the edges of boards, think it was Mike farrington I see doing it on youtube

Do you always use what looks like plain MDF on your jobs. Or do you also use MR MDF. The question being if using MR would you use the same technique for the edges.
Nice video. I’m about to build my first fitted wardrobes with MR MDF so this is useful although not sure where I’ll put the 2350mm long pieces to stack them as I only have a small workbench 😂🙈. I’m guessing this is only done on face edges otherwise you’d be there all day and no point on edges not seen?
Hi in the demo just a fine ready mixed filler. I also use the big tub from wickes, can't remember the name. Watch the vid again and look at the name on the tub. Tbh all fillers should do the same job
@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop Is it a wood filler or a drywall filler? Structure looks like the lather :) Thanks for these videos, very helpful for sure!

Good video Ryan ...... good point about the liquid sealers👍
Cheers Ray! 👍
Nice one Ryan. Great informative how to. Thanks mate
Cheers Richard 👍👍
Was it you that asked for the veiko hinge jig video?
That's possibly a video to come in the next week or so
@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop yes it was me mate. Look forward to it. Cheers Ryan
Another great video. Loved Sean’s T-shirt. Ask him where he got it.
I got that exact same filler you using there! Ill give it a try for sure, I never thought it would work on wood honestly
Can you tell me the name of the product? I'd like to give it a try. Thanks.
Great demonstration, this looks like an extremely useful technique.
Thank you 😁
Are masory wall putty the same thing as your filler? If not can we still use it.
I don't think you could use that....
Nice! What do you do for pre built corners etc or where corners meet and you want them nice and flush or looking as one piece without the join? Thanks
Nice to see a follow on video!!
Cheers mate, a little planning on my behalf for once lol

What about a veneered mdf? Best of both worlds maybe?

I tried this tonight and it worked really well in terms of getting lovely edges, but I really struggled to get the parts apart!

Hi yes same procedure for Mr mdf.
I don't use it that ofter barring in bathrooms.
I get the same paint finish results using standard mdf to Mr mdf 👍
And do you paint all the sides separately before assembling or paint them once you have built the unit? Thanks , really appreciate these videos 👍🏻

Do you do this to every edge or just the face edges (the ones on show)?
Hi just the edges on show, generally the front edge but adj shelves would get done all round and doors
@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop thanks
Yeah, good trick. Maybe get a trowel though 😉
I'd use the vac to dust off though
I think this is a good idea, but why not use sayerlack high build paints and there is no need for all this filler, just paint sand paint 👍🏽
Which ones have you found best? Just looking at ordering the water-based AU0474/13 primer and
