December 1971, San Diego Sports Arena, 8th row floor center stage, I was there with my good friend Randy. All 4 original members of The Who gave the performance of a lifetime, at least for us they did! Thank you for the memories, long live rock.
I also like that the drummer for some years has been Zac Starkey who got his first drum kit from Keith Moon. Dad Ringo didn't really want him to play drums.
The two essential members. There can be no The Who without either really. It's like Grand Funk without Mark Farner or Creedence Clearwater Revival without John Fogerty. Can't help but miss Moon and Entwhistle though. They do sound great! Zak is a perfect fit! Should change the name from The Who. Should now be THE TWO!! LOL! JUST KIDDING!🤣
@@unhingedsoulcollector8501 all of em were essential...Zak does a great work on drums, of all the other replacements they´ve had, he is the one that sounds closest to Keith, but it´s not as impredictable (and myself being a drummer i miss a lot that in their sound). And about John, no one sounds even close, altough from 1989 onwards they asked him to play at less volume, but to his sound in the seventies, no one comes remotely close.
Been a Who fan for over 40 years, I got into them as a teenager at the end of the 70s so I just missed out on that golden period of 69-73 when they released Tommy, Live at Leeds, Who's Next and my all time favourite Who album Quadrophenia, it's great seeing Roger and Pete still rocking as they approach 80, it's makes me sad to think once this great era of Rock Royalty has gone, artists like Roger and Pete, McCartney, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Jagger and Richards, Clapton etc, that's it, we'll never see the like again.
I FIRST saw the Who live at the Savoy Ballroom in Portsmouth in 1965.I was stunned then and l continue to see them at every opportunity at the ripe old age of 73 they have never disappointed they are Simply the best live band in the UK Europe and America
The world even! We're off to see them at Sandringham end of August. It will be the second time we've seen them this year. Ever so exited! Duracell should sponsor them. Then again, maybe not. It would be false advertising. They could never contain so much energy
Wow!!!! Thats right! Arbus did that. Is it true Thats was Keith Moon's vision. For some reason the beginning keys and that violin idea were all his. It almost doesn't fit but its PERFECT
@sabirtalibmuhammad9870 ...i understood it to be Townshend's idea, he has always been the absolute leader in all aspects especially musically. Dave's unique style was brilliant, very different and rather influential in that period......i've noticed it in other artist's recordings too. Who's Next was just after East of Eden's Jig a Jig hit,(i played with them for a few years), and Townshend recognised the brilliance/originality in Dave's style. There were management connections with E of E and the Who, the rest is history.✌️🇬🇧
@@okgo8315 Fascinating history mate..... The English Trend out of the 60s and 70s blew my mind. They had such a grasp of the Delta River Blues but then somehow they still sprinkled UK salt on it!!!! That jig always tripped me out. I wish I was in the studio when Pete says, "Lets end this with a Violin".....
Pete wore his white jumpsuit at Woodstock '69. Last year they performed there after 54yrs and I'd hoped he'd wear similar - but sadly not to be. And here he is in London in blue! And it's the first time I'd seen them with an orchestra. Fantastic.
@@neiladams4147 back in the day the white jumpsuit was all the rage... Moonie stole the show with his... Cat Stevens wore one... Eric Clapton... I'm sure there is more... these were big in the 70s... I made a replica of Moon's jumpsuit and wear it from time to time... I would imagine Pete probably is wearing blue for nostalgia, but also to give us something new
this is my 18th album of The Who in concert...and I still can't get enough of listening to them...this one is no exception...it's still great. I only saw them once live, but the earth shook, it was mind-boggling!
Saw them at the Hollywood Bowl twice in 2019. Been a WHO fan since Tommy came out. Always hoped to hear Baba O’ Riley live with violin at the end. Made the whole show for me, and brought tears to my eyes.
I’m 70ish and THIS makes me miss so much of the music I grew up with from the 60’s > late 80’s! BUT I still 💖 music from ALL years - as long as it’s well done by 👍 talented artists!
Pete and Roger still got it. Genuinely surprised with how good they sound here. Usually its sad to see trailblazers slowly die out and have all of their remarkable traits slip away but The Who are still going strong!
I feel like they are one of few bands who realised the potential in growing old gracefully and they are now doing orchestral and acoustic way more to fit what they still can achieve. Daltrey will never sound like a 25 year old powerhouse again, but there is an elegance to the way he sings now that has to be conscious. It did take them a while to get here though. The stuff they did in the early 80's with the mullets and sleevless shirts is just cringe-inducing to look back on, but seeing their recent stuff, I'm glad they didn't permanently retire after that.
I saw them not long after this in NYC in September 2019 and they sounded great except that Pete had some voice problems as it was the first concert after a couple months layoff. But Roger sounded great. Pete apologized to the Madison Square Garden crowd. His playing was stellar, as always.
WOW 😲 - I’m completely amazed by the WHO’s 👏 performance here! I just watched THIS and the one they did 46 years ago of the same song back to back. I’m 70ish now and grew up with the their music, but like THIS one iMUCH MORE than the other, older one. I was really surprised when I realized they’re still ‘alive and kicking’ just as strong as ever (even without all the original members)!
God I wish I was born in the 50s 60s so I could get to experience all these amazing songs in their prime, I literally don’t listen to any music from what kids nowadays listen to. My playlist is full of 50s-90s songs and some of the early 2000s songs because I was born in 1998.
“Let’s get together, before we get much older”. Resonates now more than ever.
And he look his watch !
Daltrey's voice sounds as strong as ever
John and Kieth are with them in spirit
Yes
That's a great comment my music loving freind
Imagine how on top of the world young zack felt the spirit of Ringo also awesome
Wow! Roger is still in excellent voice, and singing it in the original key! Zak Starkey is a worthy successor to Keith Moon.
They still never cease to amaze me. The Who are one of the greatest bands of all time.

Daltrey's voice has gotten BETTER!
@@MesaperProductions agreed. It has held up very well considering his age and the way he sings.

They’ve still got it 😁
This is without a doubt an all-time masterpiece. Just amazing!
This song is a timeless masterpiece, great version.
What a thrill for that young lady! She'll be telling this story when she's elderly
Who′s next is innovative and perfect.
Pete's windmill is always exciting and powerful.
Spectacular performance. Watching this makes me think of all the potential Who music that we missed out on between 82 and 06.

That’s why we need to still go to their concerts here and now! 🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️💋❤️💋🔥
Anyone realize it is a Vietnam protess song
Been enlivened by them since the 60’s, ‘Boris’ times.. They’re embedded in my Soul.
You guys are still the best magnificent!
The greatest rock n' roll band period ! Thank you so much for still smashing it well into my adult years. Long live rock...Long live The Who !
Everytime listening with headphones I get fooled around 1:31 thinking someone's calling me.
For Who's next: Won't get fooled again!
I was at this show. This sounds absolutely amazing.
Me too! What a great show it was. So glad to have been present
Me too, brilliant concert
Keith and John must be proud.
Love that Pete is wearing a jumpsuit like the old days, but O Even love more that Zak's wearing the Mexico's football team jersey ❤🇲🇽
Zak is such an incredible drummer, I’ve always rated him!
Like father like son

What a great band they are, we want to respect and thank them, for so many years of good music, greetings from Colombia
It's curious to hear the violin solo again... but what a beautiful touch!!
Beautiful is the right word.
Townshend is a real legend
At age 13 with Tommy, fell in love with The Who, have been loving The Who since then, and will always love The Who ! This is really good !
This was simply EXCELLENT! 🙂
I saw them on October 24 (two days after my birthday), in San Jose, California last year. They nailed this song!
Their live show is full of energy. Thanks for the overflowing power!
Beautiful. I almost dropped some tears. Is incredible the feeling that you've seen everything of The Who but there is always something more.
Superb stuff!!!🔥
Still rocking my, and every other, generation!!! 😎🤘
Aaaaahhhh NO Mames....!! Zak Starkey con la playera de la selección mexicana, Increíble !! Muy Bien por ti Zak 👏👏👏 Saludos desde la CDMX
También noté eso!
Que chido , se nota que igual que a su padre Mexico le encanta
This video has been released on my 21st birthday, what a wonderful gift
My mate Dave Arbus from East of Eden played the original violin solo at the end. She duplicated it wonderfully note for note.✌️🇬🇧
