You never have to cut your hair. I remember when I was about 13 years old and my great aunt, who was probably in her 70s, had broken her hip. So I started spending the night with her. She was very old fashioned and always kept her hair in a bun. So I'll never forget the first time I saw her take down her hair before bed. It fell in white waves around her face and I thought she was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. From that moment I always wanted to have long flowing hair when I got old!

I am 73 ,I have long hair, really long, wavy and colored blond. I get a lot of complements: o,you have gorgeous hair.
And I don’t have intention to make them short for 2 reasons: short hair makes me look older, and I don’t want to look like 90% of older women with the very short cut( like a men).I love my long hair,I love myself,and this is all that matters.I don’t care what anybody else thinks,for me is important what I and my family think.My husband,my daughters say: please please don’t cut your hair.😊
I was told my whole life to keep my hair cut short. It wasn't until 5 years ago I stopped listening to the naysayers in my life. I feel I am more attractive and free as a 52 year old woman. Great video!!.
This is me. I am a 59 year old NYC born (1960) and raised Italian-American. I wash my hair only twice a week, do not use any products save for a simple shampoo and conditioner, which I apply very lightly both before and after I shampoo and I neither brush nor comb my hair when wet. I air dry my hair, never apply heat and truly believe that the healthiest hair begins from within, which means eating healthy, with leafy greens as well as fruit. I take some coconut oil, about a tablespoon in my coffee or in what I am cooking and for exterior protection I rub about a tablespoon of coconut oil between my palms to warm and gently coat my hair from the ends up, enough to create a slight shine which also protects hair from the outside elements, but not too much to create a greasy feel. I then wear my hair in a braid or a simple bun for work. Having Italian genes may somewhat attribute to why my hair is super thick, full and dense but this is wonderful in the winter...super warm! In the warmer weather I put it up in a bun or braid and for lovely loose waves the next day I twist it into a bun at night before sleep. More than anything external, I firmly believe it is how we genuinely carry ourselves, take care of ourselves and more importantly how we treat others which ultimately makes our beauty shine through, in our personality, our complexion, and our hair, no matter how long or short.
So many male stylists are scissor happy when it comes to cutting women’s hair. They say women over 50 should cut it above the shoulder because long hair makes women look older. I disagree. Every time I see a woman with short hair, I think she could be so much more youthful and pretty if only she had longer hair....
Laura I agree with you 100%. In fact I do hair extensions and have talked many women with short hair into adding hair and subtracting years. I have had no one not like their new longer look.
I wear short hair bec it suits my life better. I love my hair longer but it's such a hassle I don't choose it. And I don't care if I look young. I'm 66 and loving it! This whole biz of trying to look young needs to go away (ha. as if that'll ever happen). We should celebrate whatever age we are.
@@LynneSpreen I’m 67 with long hair passed my bra strap. I think long hair is easier than short styles! You got more options. You can wear it down, in a pony, in a braid, in a bun, half up, and even in a mock bob.
If you have curly hair, like me, short hair can become an awful poofy mess. When people talk about hair, they assume all hairs are straight and medium to light color. Well, that is extremely non inclusive of curly, dark and textured.
@@celidagolobic2156 You're right! My hair is one way and I tend to assume others have same issues. My hair, when longer, looks great for about half a day after I wash and style it. Then blah. If I had hair like yours I'd let it grow.

Me too, no one will tell me when to cut my hair. I remember so many of my friends cut their hair at 30 being "moms" I used pony tails and loved my hair. We should always do what we like not what is dictated by a group wanting people to buy new things or try new styles.

@@bethsimmons587 Me too, but not grey yet. The few greys that show up are lovely and curly, I almost can't wait for more. I remember pressure after graduation to cut it, so I'd look more "professional", then after babies because it was "cleaner" and more manageable. Then into middle age, because it was more "appropriate" for my age. Now that I have a few more years under my belt, people feel less free to comment, except to say how much they love it, wish they could have it.
Why can’t older women have long hair?? That’s ridiculous!! I’m 55 and have had long hair my whole life.
It all depends on what you look like.

Well-done video but frankly, I have to stifle my negative reaction. First, there are no rules. Don't go hunting for them. Second, you're young and beautiful, for cryin' out loud. And third, when will we stop darting about in fear of aging? You're alive. Live it.
Thanks for your comments. Yes, you're right. We don't ever want to cultivate fear of aging but I don't think that's what is going on here. She is defying the old-time conventional wisdom that says you shouldn't have long hair as you get older. She is merely making suggestions on how to wear the look best. Just suggestions. Wanting to look your best does not equate fear of aging. Or at least, we hope it doesn't. I hope you'll stay tuned for more. And thanks again.

What shocked me was that 45 was "the time" to think about cutting your hair because you were old! I'm 57 with long hair! Plus, this woman looks very youthful to begin with.

Look at Stevie Nicks. Her hair is long and beautiful and she is over 70. My hair is much like hers. I am not quite that old but people say my long wavy hair rocks, it is about 3 inches above my waist! Wear your hair for you, not friends, lovers or hairstylists!

It depends on the condition of ones hair. If it is thin & straggly or thick coarse and has no shine then I would go no longer than shoulder length.

I am 53 I do not see any reason why I should cut my still natural blonde, long hair. It is part of me and my personality. And...I am looking forward to wearing nice and flattering up dos when I am in my 70s :) My mum is 72 and due to the pandemic situation and closed hair salons she let her hair grow... and now she is wearing this BEAUTIFUL up do that is giving her AGES

I am always surprised at what people consider 'long hair's to be. I don't consider her hair to be long...or even long-er. I have almost waist length hair and usually keep it middle of my back...but Covid. I consider that long. I also still get a perm every year or so because it is so fine...and I am 57.
Anything below your ears is considered long if you're over 50.
My parents made me get the Dorothy Hamill (Olympic Figure Skater) haircut when I was young. I hated it because it was so short and I did get teased saying it was a boy haircut. My mother claimed she didn't like seeing my hair in my eyes, so I wore it in a hair band and ever since then I've had long hair. I'm 45 years old and don't see it going short anytime soon.
My mom made me have a pixie most of my younger years - I believe it is because it was easy for her to take care of.
I remember in 1994 when I turned 30 I thought I "had to" cut my hair short. Did it and hated it. I just love my hair long. Every time I cut my hair I hate it - it's just not me.
Oh yes,yes,yes. I am 57 years old this year and I wear my hair long as in below my shoulders.M in the process of growing it out a bit more longer than it is right now. I have had short hair before and I mean right up to pixie short. Somehow having long hair always made me feel better, sexier and more beautiful. Sure its a bit more work taking care of it at my age but I don't mind it. Soooo, it's a big yes for me on having long hair at an older age.
Crown lift and asymmetrical part, in my opinion, is the key. And I know why she and others don't want to give up our long hair. I refer to my long hair as my "warrior hair." When I let it dry by itself it curls into loose ringlets and looks slightly elder tribal and fierce, especially if I sweep it back near (but not behind) my ears.
At 54 I don’t plan to cut my hair any time soon. I’ve tried short hair several times in my life and just never liked it. I try to keep it about the length you just got yours cut to. A tool I’ve found helpful to give it a modern curl is the Tyme iron.

Im 60, i have a long hair, I always use my hair like now, very long, I’m worry about what do I think, if someone doesn’t like my style, I’m going to be very sorry, but it’s not my business, is their problem, I do my things for me, I don’t care about 60’s, and I don’t care what the people think about me!

It helps if you have a nice non-witchy face. I have a big hooked nose so I look terrible in any hair and look like a witch with long hair (I have it anyway, lol).
People don't realize that before the 1920's long hair was the style for all women.
I'm 57 and look terrible with short hair. I love my long hair even with the grey coming in and with a nice framed cut it makes me look and feel younger. Keep it trimmed and eat healthy foods as aging and hormones can take it's toll on hair health. I stay away from dyes, bleaching and blow drying as well. I won't ever cut my hair short again.
long hair keeps you young. no one needs to cut it. when I'm 50+ I will be having long hair. short perms make women look so old.

A famous guy in clothing (can't remember name) said that awful comment about older women with long hair or skinny jeans, they are 18/65'ers , you think Yay and then they turn around, well "F" him. I will wear skinny jeans and long hair and if guys like him feel cheated, too bad.
I think we should cut only for manageability. Make the cut suit your time investment in styling. Mine MUST be wash and go. If you hair is thinner, has changed texture, is more dry due to coloring etc. As I age my curls got straighter and now my grays are way coarser than my already thick coarse hair. Coloring has really dried my ends so I cannot keep healthy ends past a certain length. But women should wear what they love, not what some trend says. My quote since I was a brunette in the Malibu-Barbie days of the 70's is " No slave to fashion, I just KNOW what I like"

I'm a natural redhead and I use to have naturally curly hair as well, and that's all but gone. My youngest daughter seems to have stolen it all, and shared it with my oldest daughter who never had curls, yet at 30 has all the sudden developed them. I also have entered into the lovely (NOT) Menopause state of life and I too am having a little more (who I am I kidding? A *LOT* more!) hair falling out in the shower, than I use to. Leaves me asking myself how I'm not bald yet! I love my hair color, even with it's silver streaks, and a few months ago I actually had 6" cut off and it's now at my mid back. I've been contemplating cutting it short simply because I'm tired of the amount of hair in shower pan. I think it's time to have a heart to heart with my hair stylist!
I am relieved when my hair is shorter and I have less work, because I am usually very busy and do not have a lot of time fussing with my hair. I think I will go for mid length next time. In the summer though I often want to loose as much hair as I can, because as a menopausal woman I sweat and sweat anyways and longer hair is no help.
I did find that really long hair did pull my facial features downwards, even though that is only an optical illusion.
Long hair with layers can detract from a double chin, jowels etc. A sweeping sidepart hides my droopy eye. A short cut exposes your face completely and I'm not ready for that.

It makes me so sad how harsh society is if you don't look a certain way.
I think people are beautiful if they have a good and kind heart.
I think a huge part of the problem is how youth is worshiped in Western society, and the older folks are seen as ugly and not worth knowing.

What ages women with long hair is their angular over thin face from all their dieting.
They look like Celine Dionne and it is very aging.
Mama Gen I agree. Celine, age 51 also has a very thin corded neck where you can see all her veins popping out which really ages her. She is gaunt and hollow in the face and I am surprised she hasn’t had filler or a fat transfer like most celebrities.

I'm 64. My mom cut mine and my sister's hair into "pixie" cuts when we were kids. I hated it! I felt so self conscious. I remember pretending with my younger sister that we had long hair by putting towels over our head just so we would know what long hair felt like.
When I graduated high school it was shoulder length but after that I always had short styles. I even had to shave my head about 6 years ago in anticipation of chemo treatments.
Now, I am rebelling. My son died a few months ago and I am rebelling in anger. I decided to let my hair grow for a year to see how long it gets and if it looks good. I feel like it's now or never to have what I always wanted. Long hair. Maybe I will decide to cut it but at least I will have my experience.
This is exactly what I’m dealing with right now I’m 61 1/2 year-old female, my hair is down to my waist. It’s a blonde Blondie shoe light brown with some gray framing my face and actually the color and all is great and it’s natural but because it’s so straight and I had let my bangs grow out and they’re down to chin level now, it’s heavy and it’s flat and it won’t hold a curl cause it’s it’s thick.
I have higher cheekbones and a longer chin so my face is kind of kind of oblong, and then my cheekbones are kind of high and wide. So I went for a long layered bob cut, and it looked great. It was halfway between my shoulders and my neck and it the layers gave I could put volume at it, and it just brought it out and made my cheekbones look narrower and made my. Chin and hairline appear shorter so I had a more smaller rounder looking face and it was perfect just with the natural color not adding anything coloring to my hair. I love it but the last 2 1/2 years I’ve been letting it grow and now it’s down to my waist and I really can’t put even with layers. It makes my face look long the layers in it just it’s time for a haircut. I enjoyed the long hair but at my age it’s time. To go back to a hairstyle that best fits my face shape, giving me the appearance that I want and that’s a shorter, smaller, cheekbone type look I don’t really care for the Shape of The movie star Cher s Shape of face, but I kinda have a similar shape and I don’t like it. So the long full layered bob is what I’m going for! I think it gives me the best overall look of all of the hundred different hairstyles I’ve tried.😂

Just 70 look 50 they say. Anyhow I have had long straight hair since high school. So many ways to wear it. I will die with long hair. You can curl long hair and give body with products now. Enjoy life. Who cares as long as your happy. That’s what I love about the younger generation they are not that wrapped up in what others think. Do what YOU want. Be happy. It goes to fast to worry about others.

I really didn’t notice a whole lot of change. Your a perfect model and already look fabulous. just saying, the volume was low and the background was very loud. Also the video clips and fill ins were irritating and totally unnecessary

It is sad seeing women having to ditch their long hair for bobs, bixies and pixies once they turn 50. They shouldn't have to succumb to society's expectation when it comes to hair length at the age of 50.

Y’all talked for 4 1/2 minutes before you showed a woman in the chair and then another minute and a half did talk to her and show that you are you cutting it. And then we had one style along style. No real style I mean it’s just Long Hair. I just feel that you might have titled your video differently talk about Long Hair show one long hairstyle
You have thick beautiful hair you can wear your hair long as long as you want! The ladies that have very fine hair that is long should cut their hair for a more suitable style
Your makeup should be less around the eyes. WAY too much BLACK! You look rather harsh. I would also tone down the hair color to a softer and lighter shade.
