When they say be prepared to be on your own for at least a week, this is what they’re talking about.
Exactly. There are people on here screaming where’s help after 24 hours. I went through hurricane Andrew in Miami and help didn’t arrive for a week. And we were without power at the hottest time of the year for a month. Things have gotten better since Andrew and Katrina but when roads are impassable and the devastation is so wide, you have to be self-sufficient and/or pool together resources with your neighbors.
People! Asheville is a town in the mountains! Far from the Ocean. Semi isolated. Show them some grace.
we live far from the ocean. Hurricanes for us is crummy weather. This all happened in hours. We didn't get warnings until it looked like the dams were going to fail.
THANK YOU@@ackerbat
This is the new America. Where people rely on the government to hold their hand. Just think if SHTF someday, this is what it will look like on a small scale. People are totally irresponsible when being prepared for emergencies.
If it’s impossible to get out of the area due to roads, bridges, etc washed away then it’s impossible to get in. It’s a tough situation all around. Catastrophic situation in a wide area.
A lot of those roads are hard to access even when there's not a flood.
So very sad. But come on!-when is there never frustration with relief efforts. There’s enough drama. Of course there is frustration! No matter how fast relief efforts can be mobilized it can never be fast enough for the large number of people impacted and suffering. No! It is not shocking that a day after such extreme devastation that phone service and other services are not returned. This is a devastation and traumatic situation and that rhetoric doesn’t help.
Roads gone. They have to helicopter in
National guard helicopters are flying out of Asheville today. The have a runway for jets to land now and field kitchen equipment and emergency shelter supplies are on the ground now.
Same guys that say "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" are demanding that entire areas devastated by a disaster is immediately restored by the feds.

I think this is really poor reporting. This hit Saturday, it's Monday. No one can get in there. Same thing happened with Katrina. Everyone should have several days of food and water on hand because the Federal Government isn't magic.
I agree. Stressful click bait.
How will keeping food and water on hand help if it all gets washed away?
I'm sure the local and state governments are doing what they can, too, but there are just so many resources to go around. I know, let's INCREASE taxes and fees at all levels of government so that there is always a standing "Army" with unlimited resources and personnel to respond to any natural disaster that wipes out huge areas of the country and fixes everything within days. How would that go over?
Well this hit Thursday night actually. And I live inland GA and they're saying October 17th before we get power back. That's almost 3 weeks from when it hit. You can only prepare so much. And it's hot out
@@rockygillman6404shouldn't be rocket science to have a few 6 packs of warter and a few tins of tuna and a loaf of bread. As long as your house is not washed away entirely.
Stop trying to make a natural disaster political! Doesn’t matter what side of that spectrum everyone is on, this is a time to help others!
Republicans always say this when their states are affected. But they vote against things like disaster aid when it is someone else. They want to shut down NOAA. They deny climate change is causing more frequent and more severe storms, and refuse to take any political action to mitigate this.
Not political but someone calling climate change a Hoax, wanting to use nukes on hurricanes, wants to defund the National Hurricane Center with project 2025 and seeing him throw toilet paper at Puerto Ricans after Maria killed over 3000 citizens. Ron Disantis took the word Climate Change out of FL legislation. I'm not buying what these politicians are selling. Stand for truth and help everyone suffering from their misinformation.
And when this happens to millions of people around the world due to global warming, all the hear or get from the US is: "Dill, baby drill". So for us it's political, and about absolutely nothing else but politics.

Some Trump supporters in the south don’t see it that way tho. In order for you suggestion to help, all parties need to be willing
Guys - I know it’s frustrating and emotions are running high…I just went through Baryl (9 days without power). I did emergency response after Harvey. But when all the bridges are out, all the roads are closed, all the infrastructure is destroyed…there’s really nothing that can be done. If you can’t drive a tractor trailer to where the aid is needed you just can’t get it there. It’s heartbreaking.
hun, emergency plan have sections for this
@@jusletursoulglobaby Hun, their emergency plan right now is to airlift generators, water, and food into Ashville. Its enough to keep the hospitals open, but until they get I40 open (which will be west bound from Durham in 1-2 more days), no response at scale will be able to even reach the place. They had a plan for this...its called have aircraft on standby and get the road crews staged to get to work ASAP. That's how it works.
@@carterwgtx "there's really nothing that can be done." glad you realize there is always SOMETHING that can be done and there are always plans.
@@jusletursoulglobaby Dude, I'm a trained incident commander. And I'll just tell you, a bunch of good samaritans rushing into a disaster zone to do "something", usually means we just end up with more people needing help (because people's hearts are usually bigger than their brains). Sometimes, you have to sit and watch one road block go down, then another and gather information and plan for when the choke point gets cleared. You can have a thousand trucks parked up and ready to go, every plan for how that aid gets deployed once it arrives...but they need a road and a bridge to go on, and in Appalachia right now there are few alternative routes capable of taking heavy trucks. IF they can't get in, they cant do much good in the short term. Until I40 west bound gets opened, heavy equipment can't get into do anything. Right now they are literally airlifting diesel in to keep hospital generators going (thank god the airport is operating), but you can't supply 40,000 people on an airlift that small.
@@carterwgtx trained and saying there's nothing that can be done is bizarre, but okay
It’s ridiculous for this reporter in NC to be constantly harping on the Federal Government. If there is no place for planes to land, no roads for trucks to drive on, and no gas stations, and other infrastructure, how can that be blamed on the Federal Government? Surely the government is doing its part to get things done as quickly as they can, but they can’t do anything if they can’t get to the people in need. It just sounds like a political statement and that’s so wrong.
Such a large area involved and some people think it should be put back the way it was in just a few days.Face reality, Things take time.
Nobody thinks that. They think that they want food and water.
Agree! The rescue cannot get to them, and the reporter makes it sound like the gov is twiddling their thumbs. I am sure they are doing whatever they can! No place to even land helicopters
Many of these communities will never recover from this. That's what they are not telling these people
@@gregorylyon1004 they absolutely won't. Every single business in Asheville is about to go bankrupt no matter if they survived the flood because nobody can get there to give them business

and maybe even decades for most of these communities to have
some semblance of the lives they had before the storm.
This is only the beginning of the frustration and despair that face
those that have survived.
IIRC, there were Katrina refugees who didn't return to New Orleans despite the rebuilding. So it's highly probable the same will happen here.

It took 2.5 yrs to rebuild my neighborhood after it was bulldozed to the ground . Almost was killed with my young son. Being inland was not worried about the water , but the tornados did the damage. Looking at the destruction, will take 2yrs to rebuild and many people will move like I had to move . Many will have to pack up and move . Plus the area is dangerous to move . I got hurt trying to move about my home , only 1 part of my roof was left, leaving my neighborhood to drive to check my dad's home 10 min drive , 2hrs . I got lost all road signs gone , 4 flat tires on my car. 2 yrs to get back to a level less than what it was before . I had to move .

I don’t want to sound cruel or inhumane, but providing relief after a natural disaster is not an easy thing. It’s one thing when you have to provide relief to one state. It’s another thing when you have to provide relief to several states, and some of these communities are more rural than you might think. If a major sea gets hit by a hurricane, you can at least assume that I’m majority of the population impacted by this hurricane is in this central location unfortunately, that’s not the case here we have a lot of smaller communities that got hit by a major storm and on top of that, you have some urban communities that also got hit by that same storm. This actual storm was not how powerful it was how wide it was. It was bigger than some states. Now we tell the government hurry up, rushing there and help everyone in less than a week. Remember many of these services were cut or haven’t been expanded despite science telling us that the rate of natural disasters to hit our country would go up. we were told you’re going to get hit by more natural disasters and they will be bigger natural disasters. The thing we didn’t do was higher more people to deal with this. Don’t get upset with me when I say this, but guess what most of the states that opposed hiring help to prepare for natural disasters and most of the states proposed reducing funding to help people impacted by natural disasters were red states. Most of the areas hit by this tragic hurricane rest states red areas within red states. I truly hope everyone is well. I truly hope we can help these communities recover because I don’t want to see things as red and blue. I want to see things as what needs to be done to help people. Right now we need more resources to help people and we have to understand why we don’t have enough. First we get the people to help they need and then we need to look at this and say why didn’t we have enough resources to begin with. Who specifically said let’s reduce the number of resources available to people and then you hold them accountable. When the politicians who voted to reduce the size of FEMA say well, how was I supposed to know this would happen show them the evidence show them the reports and ask them. Did you read any of this from the experts?

The fact that we are helping Ukraine defend itself because it's in our strategic long-term interests doesn't mean we can't also provide disaster aid to those who need it.
My parents went through a bad hurricane, and it took 9 days for their power to be restored. That's just what it took because the infrastructure was so badly damaged. Expect drama from MSM. "If it bleeds, it leads". Reporters know it will take a minimum of weeks to set up facilities, and that search and rescue comes first. Instead disgruntled and frustrated people are interviewed. Odd, that not one person is interviewed showing they understand the reality if the situation : if they can't leave, how is help going to be able to get in. Bureaucracies move slow. That's a fact.
600 hundred missing is heartbreaking because they didn’t have a chance in the flash flood water😮😢😢😢
Having went through Sandy, which wasn’t nearly as devastating as this, I learned quickly how isolated you can be when there’s a massive area destroyed.
This isn’t your power being out because of a single down line, it’s major infrastructure completely gone and an absurd amount of total area where work is needed.
Always prepare no matter what the nay sayers might be talking about.
Trump and Vance say you have to pull yourself up by your own boot straps . They laugh at government assistance.
BS
Moronic comment
No they do not.. and Trump and Elon are actively giving and getting support. Trump is physically there. Where Kamala and Biden?
Stop spreading bs
@@montanaminck2226 yep some good ole “ rugged individualism “!
Picture yourself in a small town in a disaster. Power is out, roads are out, phones don't work and maybe you forgot to buy fresh batteries for the radio.
You have no clue that the problem might be affecting half your state, so you will naturally believe that the government is just ignoring your town. You will probably have some complaints about this.
Your hypothetical scenario is hardly plausible
Is trump really saying if he was president this would never have happened? So now trump can prevent natural disasters? He has lost it.
Not a Federal Government job. State government.
And if it's too much for the States causing them to appeal for Fed help, the Fed basically say, OK, step aside Governor-boy. We run this State. Happened after Katrina
We must ask ourselves which is more expensive?
A. Preventing and reversing climate change
B. Rebuilding more and more cities year after year
Ok Forest Gump !
Hurricanes being so rare there, I'm sure most of them don't have food insurance... It's really tragic...
Ooooooh! What a sweet scam. Food insurance. Thanks, you de man
Food and gas shortages here in south Georgia.
As you are reporting, you could help out this poor lady.😢
What by giving her gas that isn't available or giving her cell phone service that isn't available??
When the Lord closes the door, no man can open it. ..have mercy Lord Jesus 😢
Stop crying for free money. This is one of the reasons everyone home insurance is so high
So sad man, does it even make sense to buy a house? This could literally happen anywhere…
The MSM needs to stop creating DRAMA and causing people to FIGHT! These poor people need reassurance not CHAOS!!!!
The MSM loves dividing the masses up.
Don’t need it from MSM. Plenty for all on UA-cam.
Well listen to tass where Vladimir and trump rein supreme
Guys, it’s gonna be OK. Joe Biden is planning a visit
Yes, but first he has to get off the phone with Netanyahu! 😂
Our government rather gave billions and billions to other countries. Then taking care of our own.
Well, that just shows how little you know because actually the government gives very little foreign aid as a percentage of the budget. The US government always provides federal emergency assistance in a natural disaster and Biden has already released aid to the states. You must think the government should act instantly like in a movie!? 🙄
North Carolina Governor must step down immediately! Huge failure!
Since there is no garbage service, it doesn't make sense to pile it up at the curb. Leave it in the house and let it dry out, and maybe you can clean it and still use it. Making those piles on the curb that get covered in sand from the plows traps them in even more.
I'm glad to see wider media coverage of Asheville and western NC, thought Florida, GA, Tennessee, etc. are suffering too. In NC, this has the potential to be another Katrina. I know everyone is doing a lot, but IMO, more help needs to be mobilized. Ppl don't even have drinking water or food, nowhere to shelter, thousands of ppl need welfare checks and/or are missing. NG needs to be mobilized from more states, World Central Kitchen, Red Cross, etc. Anyone who can, please donate to relief and rescue efforts. We can pull together as a country and get through this. Let's help our fellow Americans.
Know these fols understand what New Orleans went through. And at the Time Katrina hit New Orleans. I bet these people turned up their noses to what was happening .
When you make assumptions about what you think people thought about Katrina victims then you are putting out way more negative vibes than anyone should ever!!
Nah. left for Ashville the day after Katrina. Stayed a month before I could re-enter.
Everyone treated me like a war hero. The vets took care of my pets for free. And upon my departure, I received free, rubber boots, chain saw, cleaning agents, gloves, tools, building supplies, and threats regarding visiting for Mardi Gras.
It’s nice that our government can help foreign countries but is slow in providing help for its own people
America just another example of not taking care of it’s citizens
And what is the point of making a vague and general statement that says nothing?? The government is reaching out to help these people at state, local and federal levels! Did you think this was going to happen instantly like in a movie?!?!
If the USA reduced its annual military budget by _one percent_ it could devote an extra _eight billion dollars per year_ to rescue, recovery and rebuilding operations after events like these.
Too many of these people are the same ones that think food only comes from the grocery stores. I’m not saying everyone should go into full prepper mode….just start thinking beyond the hood ornament of your car. The rescuers can only get thru so many calls in a day. 🤔
Some preppers bunkers got washed away
Come on Biden get off the beach and do something
He has but you sound like whatever Biden does you will still whine and complain!? 🙄
Don't show Biden.....I just get angry!
Grow up.

And if he doesn’t show, you will still get angry. 🤔
