We are located in the center of the #Mediterranean and specifically in Sicily. On its northeast coast there is a city that you will love at first sight. In today's episode we travel to Taormina, a picturesque city of 11 thousand inhabitants. It was founded by the Ancient #Greeks almost 3 millennia ago and its name was #Tavromenion, as it was located next to #Taurus hill.
#Romans, Byzantines, #Arabs, Normans and Spaniards have left their mark on the area, making this colorful place look even richer.
In the 18th century, #European #aristocrats and nobles discovered the magic of this beautiful city, and after Goethe's flattering references, Taormina became the terminus of the Grand #Tour of the time. The city soon became a popular tourist resort, cultural center and meeting place for many European #artists, writers, and intellectuals. Here, they could enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and #climate, the grace of artistic nudity, performances, events as well as a rare for the time acceptance of #homosexuality.
The entrance to the city is through two medieval gates. Porta #Messina and Porta #Catania, which lead to the neighboring cities respectively. The main street will drive you crazy and you will not know where to look first. Ornate buildings, flowers, fountains, shops, restaurants with smells of delicious food, art work, beautiful churches, impressive squares, #Italian #finesse, and this fantastic view of the bright blue Ionian Sea that remains unforgettable.

Visit #Teatro #Greco, the second largest ancient Greek theater in Sicily, where performances still take place today.
IX Aprile square is the center of the city and will leave you speechless with its liveliness and symmetry, while at the same time it is offered as a huge balcony with the most panoramic view!
#Castelmola, an imposing medieval castle west of the city.
#Villa Comunale di Taormina is a wonderful destination for a quiet walk in the beautiful gardens.
Explore the narrow alleys of Taormina and their colorful details. An ideal way to travel back in time, in the footsteps of European nobles and artists.
