This week's nostalgia Anime piano cover is another true classic with a very familiar melody: Dango Daikazoku from Clannad. Whenever I hear this melody, I can immediately picture the ending animation of Clannad in my mind with all the hand drawn Dangos.
It is hard to believe that Clannad has aired almost 12 years ago in 2008, but the story is still as fresh as ever in my memory. It's a little bit of pity that the first season of Clannad is usually neglected in favor of its second season, Clannad ~ After Story. Granted, the emotional impact of After Story is pretty much legendary, but I actually enjoyed both the "silly" side of Clannad and the "serious" side of After Story equally. (Especially that gym locker room scene with Kyou)
I wonder if people nowadays still watch those decade old Anime series from 2005 - 2010, especially people new to Anime. Since there are so many new Anime series airing every season, newcomers can be quite overwhelmed regarding what to watch next. And some people might be discouraged by the seemingly outdated animations and therefore just watch the more recent Anime Series. Well, I may be mistaken as well and people actually prefer to watch the "good old stuff" instead of currently airing Anime (笑)
A few words about this arrangement. It's probably the piano cover with one the lowest difficulty level I have done far and I applied the "simple is best" rule until the very end. My favorite part of the original song has always been the second chorus, when a choir is joining the singer and more instruments are being added. I used the deep bass notes in 02:45 to give the chorus a grandiose feeling, similar to what I felt when I was listening to Dango Daikazoku.
I was also wondering how to give this arrangement a proper closure at the end. Since I am only playing very high notes at the end, the sound reminds me a little bit of a Music box. The melody is gradually losing its speed, like a music box running out of its wind-up energy, step by step... until it finally stops. And all that's left is the silence afterwards.

@@Lotuswalker you can find simple versions of this song online. It's really not too hard, but when you add embellishments, then things get tricky.

1. You really have to feel the emotions and ofcourse u can't play with those tears in ur eyes
If someone hasn't watched the anime, or even if they did and did not like it, would not tear up, but of course even unknown music's to you can make you feel nostalgia hence the tears.

The ED of Clannad contrasted the inevitable immense sadness that would happen in the series, and I feel like that’s what made the song so beautiful looking back. It shows the light in this dark serious. I maybe looking too deep in a cutesy song, but I just have so much emotions attached to this song.

I felt a little depressed while listening to OST of Clannad ED due to its similar sounds of raining sounding like Di Da, Di Da.

Pretty much the whole point of the anime.
I have never watched the anime and know nothing about it except that it is sad. but this song still gets to me.
The video isn't even out yet, but that title alone is enough to make me feel so emotional again... Clannad is one of the handful of masterpieces in anime that will forever stay deep in my heart. It genuinely made me think about the joys and hardships of life and family, and has brought out emotions in me like no other series ever has.

I've watched over 100 anime and clannad is my all time favourite.
Yeah it led me to discover parts of myself that I hadn’t thought of before, and I came to really appreciate the little things in life. If you’re looking to watch another like it, I recommend Fruits Basket.

To those who haven't watched or even don't know this anime, this anime CLANNAD is really a masterpiece and one of the must-watch anime before u die. It might be a bit boring at the begging, but you'll feel the heartwarming emotion while u're watching.

The way he played it like how the anime progressed is making me tear up... Starting from playing the piano like the soft love of nagisa to tomoya, then suddenly transitioned to playing it hard like how tomoya grieved for nagisa and ushio's death to a soft ending like how he accepted their deaths.... He delivered it all in this piece!

No. Way. I literally started watching Clannad yesterday and finished it today. Literally thirty minutes after I finished episode 22 I got a notification for your premiere. All I can say is coincidence is a scary thing, and once again spectacular arrangement of this heartwarming piece from an even more emotional show.

ive never seen an anime as beautiful as clannad. everything just fits together perfectly and it really blew my mind. although i do wish that they wouldve maybe did something to where tomoya and nagisa remembered fuko, its still great. 10/10 would recommend

The thing about Clannad is you know that those days are going to be the happiest days of your life, and they are.
I cannot describe how I feel right now ...both comfort and deep sadness..probably this is a universal opinion that everybody agrees with ....Clannad is the perfect definition of a slice of life anime everything down to the deep story to the relationships between the characters and their development from high school life to senior life ....literally an anime that changed my perspective on life an absolute masterpiece and thank you for this wholesome masterpiece ❤

i started watching anime only a few years ago. i always loved watching the epic fight scenes and was only ever interested in that sort of show. i gave this a go out of boredom and its still the number one anime on my list. havent found anything better yet.
This song triggered such a strong emotional response from me, to the point where I almost had tears in my eyes, something that I have never experienced with any other song, including the original.

The first time I watched Clannad, it was during my second year at high school. It was the first anime that I watched in earnest, and it made me cry like a baby. Other series come and gone afterwards, none can compete with Clannad in terms of impression and the emotional turmoil it brought to me.
This rendition took me away, showing my heart all of the joy and sorrow that awaits it in life. It felt as though I were watching my own wedding, and smiling softly as I held my wife’s hand.

I always rewatch Clannad and Clannad AS at least once a year because of how much it has impacted me as a person. And hell, even without nostalgia KyoAnis animation aged really well and can still hold its own with today’s shows. Cheers to one of my favorite OSTs 🍻

One of the simplest piece I've seen in a long time from animenz but yet still powerfully and emotional. Finally something I can try to play without all the arpeggio killing my fingers
I completely adopt the illustration of Animenz for the activated mental toward playing music, which is just like a music box screwing up its winder finally ending up in a gradually loosing status.

And I as well. Very few shows have made me "ugly cry," but Clannad After Story was one of them. Fruits Basket 2019 was the other.
Before Clannad came out following the success of Kanon, not a darned one of us fans at the time thought that Clannad would have this kind of an impact on the entire culture as a whole. Yet it's now a touchstone of Anime. It resides at the top of high quality and emotional shows. I'm so proud to have been a part of that ride.

Arrangement thoughts:
Felt like I was floating on clouds, soaring through the sunny skies at the climax and then resting back onto peaceful pillows of air at the end. I re-listened to your Key Anime Piano Suite right before this, and I must say this Dango feels so much more poignant than the version you ended that medley with, which is already such a great arrangement.
As we hit the climax, I was anticipating in my head a half-step up modulation that would've brought a second tier of emotional energy into the final chorus. That would've been an interesting alternate ending. But I am definitely satisfied with this work as is. Thank you as always for sharing! 😁

I have finally watched Clannad after all the years of hesitation and HOLY GOD, as expected of a legendary series, its quality and story are on another damn level compared to all other series I have ever watched. I'm scared that there would be no other series that can make me feel as good as Clannad.

Back in 2012, I were so emotionless, feel like nothing can make me laugh, feel scare or cry. Then my friend told me to watch this. Dodged the first bullet, Nagisa, because of accidental spoiler. But oh boy, when it got to Ushio, I cried like never before. Tomoya got no meaning in his life, feel like I could die right there if I were him.

This song never ceases to make my heart flutter and your principle of "simple is best" for this arrangement was probably the best approach because after all, the melody was supposed to be a TV ad that Nagisa really liked, right? Yet here we all are crying over two small words, Dango Daikazoku. Keep the nostalgia coming!

You play beautifully. This song has always been one of my favorites for the piano, and it was a treat to hear it played so well on such a fine instrument. I also have to say the chords at 3:36-3:38 were beyond satisfying, they hit the ear just right
