So I Finally Flew Air Canada's 787 Business Class...

  • Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of flying in Air Canada’s Business Class a couple times, on various widebody and narrowbody flights.
    However, those widebody flights all took place on aircraft with AC’s older “Classic Pod” seat, which is still pretty decent, but is showing its age.
    So, when I found a pretty enticing deal using Aeroplan points to fly on their 787 in Business from Toronto to Calgary, I knew I had to give it a try!

    Happy to report that as of now (Apr 2022) AC domestic Signature class has fully resumed their pre-COVID menus: 1 appetizer, 4 main course options, cheese plate, and dessert/fruit.

      Are passengers still required to wear masks? I'm due to travel DUB-YUL in Signature Class in the summer and would like to think the muzzle mandate will have been dropped by then.

    • @kiddo817
      @kiddo817 2 роки тому +1

      @@egpx yes. Required by both Canadian federal government and European Union on flights to and from EU. Crew will also strictly enforce it as it’s for their own safety as well.

    • @egpx
      @egpx 2 роки тому +3

      @@kiddo817 I flew from the UK (non-EU) to The Netherlands (EU) a few days ago with KLM. There was an announcement that masks were recommended. About three quarters of the passengers chose not to wear one and once airborne the cabin crew took their masks off. Similarly on my return the vast majority of passengers were mask free in the horrendous line to get through security and passport control at Schiphol. Some donned masks as they approached the x-ray machines where there were notices telling them to do so but again, most ignored it. I remained maskless in the airport and on the flight back to Glasgow. Once again the cabin crew were masked for boarding and took them off once airborne. Officially the UK has dropped the mask mandate. The Netherlands has done so too with the exception of on aircraft and in the airport where it is still, apparently, illegal to go maskless unless you are medically exempt. Law it may well be but most people were ignoring it.

      I just flew it return YVR to YYZ.
      Found the service standards lacking especially for Signature class. On both flights, you are only allowed option of cheese plate OR fruit or dessert.
      And no amenities kit (just the standard Covid kit).

    • @kiddo817
      @kiddo817 2 роки тому

      @@irisnic9411 you can certainly ask for cheese plate and fruit and dessert (I’ve had no problems flying over 20 times in signature over last year on this route). Of course if it’s a full cabin they may tell you to wait till everyone is served.

    They give out the earbuds on descent since they collect the headphones before landing and don’t want customers to not have a way to finish their movie etc.

    I love those shots when you have to pass the airport before landing and can see the entire airport. That happens quite a bit when landing in Atlanta considering the way the vector in aircraft coming in.

    Air Canada is an airline I am proud to say is Canada’s national airline. It’s great. The only really boring aspect are their breakfasts. I fly business with them 4 times a year and each time, with me hungry for a really nice breakfast, I am aghast to see, once again, the ubiquitous parsley omelette. My God, it’s been on the menu for at least 40 years and although all right, it would be nice for AC to offer more hit alternatives representing the various culinary regions of our vast nation.

    Hi Alex. I'm not sure if anyone has said this yet but the earbuds they give you are so that you can continue to watch the IFE during decent and landing if you choose to because they take the nice headphones to store for landing (and so passengers don't take them off the aircraft).

    As always, a well done review! Just wanted a point out the reason for passing the ear bud headsets prior to descent. The overhead noise cancelling headsets are not supposed to be worn below 10 000’ (probably in case of an emergency), so they collect the headsets above 10 000’ and pass out the ear buds so that you can continue to listen to your movie.

    I’m a fairly regular business class passenger with Air Canada. I realize that I am very fortunate. Two weeks ago I flew Edmonton to Heathrow in business class. On the leg from Edmonton to Toronto, the crew were absolutely charming, but the lunch was rather poor quality with a dessert that was basically a chocolate square made from a cake mix. From Toronto to London the flight attendants were rude and indifferent. One attendant was pushing me for my dinner order before I had stowed my carryon. Two of the four items were not available, and the chicken entree was virtually identical to the one I had on the domestic flight, only with a different sauce. The trip had none of service promises made by AC. The captain chose to lecture the entire cabin for about five minutes about wearing a mask because “his” cabin staff were given a hard time about wearing a mask by two passengers. (Yes, unacceptable behaviour, but why not address it with the individuals rather than all 300 or so in compliance?). How f’ing condescending, Captain G***. Yes, I can be fussy, but I expect better service than this. I could not wait to get off this flight. Air Canada has a dramatically uneven quality of service

Will get her to keep an eye open for a young man of (is it 6”4’? Can’t really remember 🙄). And if she does have you onboard, will ask her to give you a tour of the aircraft (obviously only places she can show you 😉). BTW, did a LHR-YYZ a few years back on a B787-8. The meal was only one choice. dried up chicken breast and cold risotto , and a plastic cup of an already opened bottle of wine one choice. What they gave me was a meal that left california hours ago. I sent everything back, I was disgusted with the service.
