Nice video! I'm not a mechanic at all; recently my '12 Jetta had a check engine light, took to a mechanic, where he replaced the MAP sensor, told me the valve assembly should be replaced, & the estimate for it is $600! My son (in another state, darn it!) suggested to check out maybe doing it myself to save money. Your video makes me feel as though we possibly can accomplish it!

Everything with the valve cover off is super easy to do. $600 is a pretty good price for replacing the valve assembly, but if you do have any experience working on cars, you should be able to do it your self. Just take your time and always double and triple check your work. I always try working on my car first, so i dont have to pay someone hundreds of dollars lol

I changed out my pcv valve 3 weeks. Wasnt having any problems but decided it was time. Everything went well up to two nights ago. Got a check engine light and a whistle sound. Pulled out dipstick and got a whoosh sound. Couldn't remove oil cap because vacuum was so great (during idling). I located the vacuum link. When I replaced the pcv valve 3 weeks ago, I had snapped off a little bit of a plastic retaining tab that keeps the pcv valve firmly snugged into place. Since I had broken a little of this tab off prior, the top of my pcv valve unit had just enough little play in it to throw things off and give a check engine light. Careful with the little tabs when removing the pcv valve.

I have the same issue. Replaced two Dorman Kits with same problem. The upper three tabs where not grabbing the Dorman 917-064 cap tight. I do not see any broken tabs on upper three but but feel spongy slack movement when I press around upper areas!!!

@@PacificRacer Thank you! I will. I just got it and mine had a little note saying "IMPORTANT NOTICE: Before installing the new the valve cover, remove all oil that accumulated inside the Intake Manifold, PCV Breather, Hose and MAP Sensor, due to leaks from the old diaphragm in the old valve cover.
Failure to remove the ol before the installation of the new valve cover, will activate the Check Engine Light and cause the error code P0106." i.gyazo.com/ff23f77bae3c0545f3f0bb03f736e706.png

@@MikeAngel06 I had zero issues with mine after. I checked some hoses after I did the repair, and they all looked good. I caught my leak pretty early though. If yours has been leaking for a while, it might be a good idea to check all of those parts.

My Rabbit is Sputtering when Accelerating and sucking in air from the oil dipstick tube. I've already replaced all Coils, Plugs, Fuel Injector 1 (it was giving a Code), All Fuel Injector Top & Bottom O-Rings, PCV Valve and Pressure Tested the Cylinders. Also tried checking for an air leak with smoke around the engine but didn't notice anything abnormal. The Crank case doesn't look like its leaking and i Always check under my car for oil leaks every other time i park, hadn't seen anything since i've owned the car. Any idea what it could be?

I replaced the pcv a few months ago and haven't had any issues. I did however have a hard time getting it off and on because of that metal bar that runs next to the coil packs. I couldn't get the screws to line up without my gasket falling out so I had to leave it as is and now I have a oil leak.
Should I put some kind of sealant to prevent the gasket from falling out place?

    • @PacificRacer

Take the metal bar off to do it then. You need all the screws back in

They wanted $350.00 from Huntington VW on Long Island for entire valve cover... Needless to say, I only changed the PCV (round thing) instead for $35.00 - and it works fine now. Don’t spend the extra money - VW parts are total ripoff.

I changed the the DORMAN 917-064 kit and failed to close the pcv valve and got P0106, P2187, and misfire. Found the valve cape was not seating tight enough on top three tabs (Slack movement when I press it). Thought bad parts and bought the same kit from other place and installed, but the slack was still there and lasted for two days and failed same way. Check all tabs on top, but tabs were not broken. I installed a small clip near top tab to press the dorman pcv cover in. And that worked. I was able to open oil fill cap in idle quick open close (easy test to see PCV is working at idle). Now I have to move on to replace the valve cover because kit failed and old parts was trashed on day one (Keep your old part). In short, the Dorman 917-064 kit is not an universal fix. Now issue is which one is the reliable and economical valve cover and who is the dependable supplier? Please guide if you have an experienced similar issue before.
