The mission isn´t at night anymore. Did this in 2019 and it was at night. Did this tonight and it wasn´t as dark as it used to be well it was at sunset but bright as daylight. Kind of dissappointing i loved the original atmosphere...
@@whitenoise509 I don´t know yet i searched the forums but haven´t found anything. I tried to change the time the mission takes place in the mission editor but you can´t open the trainingmissions in the editor to tweak them...
What is that TACAN doing right on the runway? Shouldn't it be offset by a noticeable amount? What if you can't see the runway at all due to weather? Does the Hornet really have no way to land on a field in IMC?
Isn't it easier to turn on the nvg's and simply land visually (like in day time) ? I've done it countless times and it works perfectly so I also wonder if real fighter pilots use this method or if not, what are the issues with it ?
How do you get a proper runway heading? Heading given by ATC is usually wrong. For example when landing on Batumi airfield ATC says "Runway 13" - as I understand, it means heading 130. In reality heading for runway is around 120. I'm setting my heading on tacan/hsi according to ATC instructions but the course line is not parallel to runway. How can I know proper heading to land using Tacan and HSI?
Might need to adjust the QNH in the mission as Batumi is pretty much sea level yet shows ~1200’ on landing. I was trying to correlate the ~300’ per NM with the height you were crossing, it was soon apparent that something was off with the QNH.
So basically all you can do is a VOR (TACAN) approach which by default is a non precision instrument approach with a much higher minimum altitude. Surprised that it don't have an ILS fitted! 😳😳
Nice work but there is one little thing i would like to adress or ask. At the beginning the "instructor" tells you to maintain an airspeed below 250 knots until the approach, which speed exactly should the "cadet" go? I know it but someone who is new to DCS might don't. Or is this covered in an earlier trainingmission?
Great work guys, love the progress on F-18, new features almost every week. Flying it everyday. Can I ask, are you considering Superhornet for the future, or is it too classified?
Just bought the 18 and tried this training mission step by step with you. Cannot bring up my comms page either by / or by selecting comms one. Update bug probably. Real pain.
If you wish to use the / key, you must select the Easy Communications option from the Gameplay tab in settings. If not, you must use the transmit COMM 1 or COMM 2 HOTAS buttons. Thanks
So many of my problems with flying in DCS is not knowing what muscle memory I'm supposed to have for different procedures, so MORE GATE *TRAINING* MISSIONS PLZ!
much easier to set a waypoint - set as target- (at the correct runway altitude) at the threshold, and fly runway heading to intercept that with your velocity vector.
Groove yeah you are right, but with all that super advanced and expensive equipment onboard what difference would it make to put ILS on it? It wouldn’t hurt to have it, you never know when you are going to needed, thats my point
I know that F/A18 has no ILS for land airports, and it is difficult to land safely in bad weather. In the future, can we consider adding ILS for F/A18, similar to aircraft carriers, to land airports? I understand this is not true, but some players, including me, would like to take off and land bumblebees in various weather conditions at the land airport.
I love the gated stuff, we should have heaps of these, not some arbitrary ones. Take off, air to air, air refueling, rockets, bombs, comms, carrier. . Thanks Wags

That's not wags, fake news
How did you manage to land at what appears to be a sea-level airfield with 1140' still on the RADALT?
He was set to BARO, with a wrong QFE.
Yes! more training missions! thanks ED. Mr. Matt, how can we land in an airport that does not have TACAN?
Set a waypoint on the threshold from which to derive course and DME.
@@juanjo12el Basically, the distance to the specific point. Can be TACAN, can be a Waypoint or (in the future) a markpoint.

So why isnt it on a 4 degree glide scope, the altitude in relation with ground was way off for a 3 degree glide.

It isn't correct procedure which is the point of these videos.
And if you've ever flown in crap weather you'll know NVGs wont help
@@beny874 ahh, totaly forgot about that, thanks for the answer
i just flew this training mission and it was only dusk and not dark like this video shows. Is there another training scenario I missed?
Doesn't this tutorial say lower landing gear and flaps to full at 5-7 miles? Butin this vid its done more at 17 miles? Which is correct?

Pretty sure it is correct, you need to account for magnetic vs true.

There is an ILS. I'm suprised they didn't include that in an IFR mission.

the vídeo clearly says that the hornet doesnt have ils, only icls for carriers.

check this out my friend, hornet does have ILS and they use it.
@@OrionRox CF-18's are fitted with ILS as they would always land on land. We are using US NAVY hornets in DCS. Not the same set up.

Why are always too dark the airbases when landing at night?
It's fully lighted in the video.
How do I get these missions? Do I just download DCS and purchase the F/A-18C and it comes with it or do I have to obtain these lessons separately?
They are included in the Training section of the game.
Will the ACLS be implemented anytime soon ? :)
Later in early access.
Gear down at 5-7 miles, not 16 miles.

Technically yes, but against "the rules".

I still don’t understand why this and real life Hornets doesn’t have civilian ILS

not cool with the gates. I understand why, but could we have a non gate version. kills the Feel for me. becomes arcade like for some pilots.
