Wow, these videos are just fantastic! Not only are you showing how to do everything correctly while explaining it very concisely, all the little tipps and tricks you insert here and there are also amazingly useful.
I can only imagine how much work this all must have been, so thank you very much for your dedication to teaching and the sport.
I am an ultralight pilot currently learning paragliding and I am trying to at least groundhandle a bit and practice until the training courses can contine as usual.

I think it will be also great to demonstrate - in a 100% safe manner, of course - typical beginner mistakes and the effects they induce in the wing, like inducing a frontal, symmetrical or asymmetrical, pulling on the wrong brakes inducing a wrong roll. Suggestion: assuming strong wind conditions…when going to take “an hour break”, perhaps it would be a good practice to put the other tip of the wing under the other tip (the one you already had folded in your video) and the harness on top of both of them, in case the strong wind changes direction during your brake.

There are so many different methods and websites to look for weather before flying. Can you please create a very simplified method how a newbie can review weather?
Covering -
paragliding maps
free vs commercial websites and merits/demerits
what all to check (direction of wind, knots, any other things)
Lastly providing some readymade checklist for beginner pilots to start with?
There is no simple way at looking at just one weather site really, I check 4 or 5 each day for my students and try to build a picture myself for the following day.
Were also lucky to have a weather stn on top of one of our best hills that gives wind speed and direction with a camera too.
A big thing to remember is most weather sites wind speed is at sea level NOT hill level so you need to work out the height of your hill and get some practise in knowing how much to add to the forecast, ie when my local area forecasts say 10mph I double it and this is roughly what it will be on the hill top.

I think a great video but after 1 minute i already have one question: Why must the right riser be on top? What if I prefer to turn left? As far as I know there is no "rule" for that. Thinking about it I also turn right. Only reason I could think of if it has something to do with staying clear from the rescue chute?
You can go right or left it’s just that I teach tight from day 1, either way works the same Guido and neither way is any issues with rescue. Hope it helps.👍🙏🪂

I’m in the U.S. I’ve flown before. I have about about 10 of flying time, but that was 4 years ago. I find this video very helpful in ground practice. I would take retraining classes again. Hi Mark. Great video. If a wing has split A risers, i.e. two A riser maillons on each side, do you take both of them or just the inner ones when guiding the wing up?
Very good question dave, if your wing tips have a habit of coming up quickly and almost before the centre section I would only use the inner A's buddy.
Would someone who flys stunt and power KITES ie kids toys

Just a question about the reverse launch. You have the right hand on the right riser break and left hand on the left riser break, so far I understand. But when you go for the rear risers you take the right rear riser with you left hand and the left rear riser with your right hand? Is that to be able to pull the rear risers further back? Many thanks for your help!
Thanks for the message pal and yes spot on 👍 ps BUT do not pull the rear risers past the front of your hips, if you do the wing will try to launch trailing edge first and go inside out, if that ever happens just release the riser a bit and it will correct it’s self.👍🪂

After watching this, I'm going back to wing-facing hook in. I was taught the "back to the wing/over the shoulder hook-in" method and both will work, but one reduces risk of being caught by surprise and getting dragged........thank you for all of these wonderfully clear instructional vids Marc.

Man! I wish I watched this a long time ago. I struggled to understand how to grab the brakes getting into the reverse launch configuration with the result being a clean config when I spin around. No instructor could understand my concern. They just basically gave me the attitude to just grab the damn things and stop overthinking it! Now I feel more confident and safe.

Once and for all an accurate and stairt to the point demo of reverse launching. Never cease to amaze me how many instructors make it so much completed. Flying is relatively easy, a good grasp of ground handling is 80% of the game

I am a complete beginner.
Just recently started ground handling at the beach after watching this terrific video and following Marks suggestions.
This video has been responsible for getting my training wing up into the air above my head this afternoon
(after spending a fair bit of time building a wall and playing with brakes and risers as Mark suggests) - much to my surprise - admittedly after a little fluffing about and pulling the wrong riser/brake numerous times!
So great to see my wing overhead and actually flying.
I don't think I've come across a clearer, more detailed video for a raw beginner - and I've watched many.
So a a HUGE thank you Mark and Sian from this trainee PG pilot for literally getting my wing into the air!

Marc,, I am taking classes in Colombia , South America currently,, my instructors recommend both risers in 1 hand and a brake and only a brake on the other hand. What are the pros and cons of each? you method looks very easy
Heah steve,sorry for slow reply we have been on the hill all day today helping pilots get back up after the huge break, umm it's an awkward one matey,I would stick to what your instructor is teaching you and get passed so he/she is happy to sign you off and there happy your safe, you are then a free pilot to learn new things and then give my way a go,I get students come to me with other pilots methods and it's hard for me to relax you know because I would rather they did it from day 1 my way. I hope that makes sense?

Hello Marc . I am a beginner. Love your video truly love it as you use simple terms to step by step to guide us . I am confuse about one item . Which is when u say when doing a reverse launch. Let's say I am a right handed man . So my rite risers is on term and left riser is on the bottom. It's a cross . So when u said when the glider drop to the right we walk to the right and pull the right break . And when u begin to hold the riser u always mention use your right hand hold the right A riser . But the riser is cross . So the right hand side is actually the left hand side . I get confuse Abt that part .

So when you pull on the A’s you can pull one more than the other to steer it as it’s coming up.

Not at all no, at the cost yes but here where I live it's sometimes up and down.
@@leavesleyaviation But in that video, it doesn't look very gusty or that the wind changed directions a lot... You can pretty much keep the wing above you without doing very much (movement and brakes), that's what it looks like at least.
