❤ You did it again Marc, a fantastic down to Earth instruction, and your toy paraglider is just so good, because here we see it al, thanks a lot Marc, keep it like that, in this way we al understand it😊 have a happy day, best regards Sören
Awesome. I'm only a beginner but I find Cobra launches straight forward after watching this. The way you showed to set up the glider is spot on. However there are a few things missed out (unless I missed them) that I discovered from watching other videos. Firstly and importantly, make sure your up wind/hill riser is on top or else when the wing comes up you will find yourself facing the wrong direction to launch and you will need to do an extra twist to face forward. Secondly, you only need to initiate using the outer A not all the As on the top side. Thirdly, the top brake hand controls backward/forwards as explained in this video but your body turn controls up/down. Turn into wind/downhill to bring the wing over your head, turn away from the wind to face uphill to bring the wing tip down. I find this launch is equal or easier in difficulty as the reverse launch now. Maybe it's good to learn both together as a beginner - it had helped me recover the wing when it goes terribly wrong while doing the reverse launch for example.
Greetings Mark, Great to see and hear you again mate. Super tutorial… looking forward to giving it a go. Come visit in Cape Town. Lotsa love to the mates on the Mynd.
Best method I've found. Used it yesterday in strong conditions. Launched like a pro. 8 times started the launch then just laid it down using brake as Mark shows it in this vid. Practice makes prefect so I'll be following this method a lot in the coming weeks
Hi Mark. Love your videos. I have a watched a few others that SHOW what to do but you EXPLAIN what to do and how it all works. Best training clips I have seen. Thanks for all your work for the paragliding community.
Brilliant, Marc, excellent instruction. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou for clearly explaining the hand controls so clearly. It makes it much easier to follow and understand your wing inputs. I must try this technique for moving the A across the body at first lift. Being able to raise the wind in higher winds under control is so critical.
Best explanation so far. Thank you. For high winds do you recommend Cobra or center A's ( as shown in another video)? I'm used to pulling A's and using the above pulley technique already on normal days.
Well I myself when I always arrive rig side on and get ready then cobra for the first launch as it’s rigged in that position, after I land to chill then come back to it all I re open it and launch with the inner A’s. 👊🪂👍
Brilliant!!! The best instruction I’ve seen so far!! Stronger wind launches are my weaknesses and I can’t wait to now practice this technique! Thank you 🙏🏻
@@leavesleyaviation yes I will do! Right now the wind in czech these days is well above even a Cobra launch but when it calms down I’ll get out there and practice 😊
Hi Marc, great vid, made learning the cobra on my own much easier. Quick question though; you said you can do either left or right twist when rigging up, doesn’t the downwind riser have to be on top? Otherwise you’d be turning 270° to face into wind instead of 90°?
Yes Gary I turn right but if you wish to turn left you will have the left wing tip low into wind, hope you get on well with it, please let me / know on here how you get on.
Thks a lot for your tutorials Episodes.😎👍 For this one, windsock could be a good reference 😉 Continue this way, make us dream and hope is just essential. Chris from France Wind grows up, I'll test this in 1 hour..!!👌
I get the bit about bringing the A-riser across and keeping lines slack etc. but what's the idea behind leaning away? What lines are you trying to engage with this?
@@leavesleyaviation Thanks. Doesn't it potentially overload the As leaning back like that though? I don't get when you lean back and when you want to run under the wing to get it overhead.

What an excellent vid, such a clear and detailed explanation, first time I see in so small detail explaining this technique, thank you so much Marc, thumbs up and you have a new sub.
Hello, great video and presentation. Rarely used in our country, no one teaches. Do you always place the parachute sideways into the wind and how many ms minimum is required for success? Be good!
I have a pair of the GIN LITE gloves and they seem to be good, Maybe not for the winter / very cold weather flying but for the rest of the year pretty good, I did recently buy some heated gloves from amazon and there totally ace, I used them 3 times a few weeks ago in - 2 and my hands were lovely and warm, I can find the link if you need me too. LINKS ADDED UNDER!!
Marc, I like your ideas on this. Will practice your Technique. Sometimes the hill feels best to layout with right or left tip downwind. I try to always keep my downwind riser on top. Do you suggest the same?
Good stuff matey, I stick to rolling the risers right but up to you but stick to right or left so your used to one way and you don’t get into a problem turning the wrong way one day.
I really appreciate your teaching and the way you show and tell what you do. The many repetitions help a lot. Details could be seen easier when the sun would be behind the camera and not behind the glider. Many pictures are relatively dark (because of the backlight). So there is a very good teaching video - with further potential. I am looking forward to more of your videos. ;-) With best regards
I've been trying to do cobra, I can get the wing to go straight up, but I can't figure out how to pick up the wing from the ground, the other side of the wing just stay on the ground the whole time
So you need to once the wing tip is up ie done the first part of the COBRA you then need to pull on the brake of that side gently and move under the low side, that's it!
@@davidwanj So if the wind is rather light this will happen, walk backwards if the wind is light to power the wing up and while pulling the brake. But also pull brake gentle otherwise this problem your having will keep happening. If it is windy and this is happening your pulling the brake too hard. Just smoothly and gently pull it.

Hello Marc, I have a question: Why is it that I see almost never someone actually using the cobra launch in strong wind? Even experienced pilots seem not to use it. Greetings from Germany, Erik
Hi Eric / Germany, Yes I agree it's strange as I use it every single time I rig, I open up like I said in the movie and cobra from there, it's so easy and quick.
@@leavesleyaviation Hi Marc, Thanks for the quick answer. I am beginner and have started training the cobra launch. It does not seem so difficult in laminary wind. Tell me, is more difficult in turbulent wind than the back launch?
@@erikpfingstner3902 Yes harder because you need a nice smooth flow to launch the wing tip slowly into the air, If turbulent it comes up and swings all over and makes it all go wrong.
Thanks, great vid! Been using this successfully for a while as I find my kite launching experience is a good crossover. Always works well in moderate wind with wing fully open. However in stronger wind the upwind tip tends to get blown about and rolled over the lines leading to a cravat quite often. Any tips for how to lay out in stronger wind when the wing won't just lie there nicely fully open?
@@leavesleyaviation yeah I do that. Ie lay the wing out with the wind. That's all good. But in stronger wind it rarely just lies there waiting for me while I clip in and get ready to cobra
There’s no real need to do that I don’t think but if you wanted to and if it’s not too windy of course just apply brake one way and as the glider drops to the side lean away hard so it does not pull you over, BUT I would say it’s much safer to have quick out carabiners and just release one side, this would stop any drags.
At last i found the most clear and visual explanation of cobra launch!
Hope it helps.
Yeah! I can do it with my speedglider, but i have troubles with my paraglider using cobra launch
