    The Pixie Hollow water looks just like the water at Disney Springs in florida. What I need is benches around that Pixie Hollow water area so that I can sit and enjoy that atmosphere. That water looks incredible, for a change I am giving Disney major kudos. That looks amazing. Water is a vibe that is so missed these days with new lands and attractions

    You mentioned breakdowns. The last time I was there my friends phone slid out of her bag on Indiana jones and they shut the ride down and they had her look through each car as it came through the queue. And they said a lot of “breakdowns” are actually them having to stop the ride to look for a guests belonging. And my friend had Indiana shut down for like 15 minutes. Thought this might interest you and might explain why Indy shuts down so much. I never knew until it happened to my group personally lol

I wanted to be respectful. Thank you for these construction updates! I wish you, Liz, and Sophia a happy holiday! 🤗🤗☃️☃️❄️❄️🎄🎄🎅🎅

    Good point about the kinetics of moving water. The fountains that used to be at the entrance of Tomorrowland, now converted to planters, are a reminder of that. The 2 tall pillars that once stood at the entrance of TL in the MK & had waterfalls were another. Of course, the large Fountain of Nations, once in EPCOT's central plaza, is a 3rd example. By contrast, the 2 fountains added to the moat of DL's castle don't seem to fit the theme. Maybe if they were just one-spigot geysers instead of a daisy format that might work better.

    Looks like the foundation from the House of the Future (1957-1967) is now an ivy-covered planter in Pixie Hollow! I remember walking through that house when I was about 10, and wanting the cool, futuristic kids' bedroom. Thanks for the great content, David! Always fun to walk around the park with you and see what's new.

    I agree that a big elaborate fountain show is not required to create charming moments. The simple jets suffice for meditative white noise. Reminds me a little bit of the fountains at the entrance to Disneyland Paris in front of the hotel, Fantasy Gardens.

    Big Thunder was open Thursday afternoon! Wednesday morning I saw the water in pixie hollow, so I figured it was close! I hope they cover the carriage house in vines / ivy to hide it some, it stands out way too much.

    • @DrStarlander
      @DrStarlander День тому +2

      Yes! Not only would artificial ivy cover a lot of the gigantic boring roof, making the building seem smaller and less like a "pre-fab shed," it would contribute to the wild, mystical, 'unconstrained-by-civilized-norms' Madame Leota vibe. These kinds of storytelling design elements work in subtle ways to convey a vibe. Right now the building has absolutely no vibe.

    Imagineering is on a roll in that park. Space Mountain blue lights, Mansion queue, Tree House, Toon Town, and now Pixie Hollow. I’m all for leaning in to quality of life improvements. Let WDW invest in big flashy new rides that replace iconic but low traffic spaces.

      This is great. However, unfortunately they used a "fake wood grain" siding material and in some cases they placed identical fake-boards right on top of each other (so all the supposedly-organic wood grain lines up and showcases the fake-ness). Typically an installer would vary and stagger the placement of such fake patterns replicating a natural texture -- but that didn't happen on this project. (Look under the south lantern right on the front facade for an example of this). The reason I mention this is that any dry-brush shadowing/highlighting of the "wood grain" (which is what this building needs) will showcase this installation mistake and cheap material even more.

    With the Haunted Mansion gift shop, maybe they are trying to mix the theme of Bayou Country with New Orleans square, since the land transition is right there. Not successfully, but when I look from that point of view, it does seem to fit the Bayou Country refurb. My husband also noticed, very similar to the Pooh attraction barn. In Pooh Corner their is another roof that as that same pitch style.

    FreshBaked. David, It's nice to see Disney doing and fixing little maintainance area's around the park. The Tiger "scene" is back looking just as good as it ever did. I note the large crocodile at the very front of the scene has swum away. At one time Walt wondered if they should plus this scene by giving some animation to the crocodile's. I.E. move heads, tails and open their mouths. Also he was thinking about adding a couple of extra scenes (?) to the "Jungle Cruise in early 1966." "Pixie Hollow" looking cleaner brighter no longer an after thought to this side of the Castle. It's a pity they could'nt put in some lighting for the Pixie's. We need to get Sofia over there to give it the once over, she knows her Pixie's. Cheers, Chris Perry.

    It's strange that Disney decided to go with their "Go Away Green" for the coloring on a the Somewhere Beyond shop. You don't want people to ignore it and look past it which is the intended use of that color. You want to use bright and distinct colors so it draws peoples eyes to the shop. A brick motif would have been better to stand out and also fit in with the theming of the exterior of the mansion.

    • @DrStarlander
      @DrStarlander День тому

      Indeed they could have used brick on the gable end or as a foundation to tie the structure to the Haunted Mansion.

    I agree that the gift shop doesn't look like it belongs. It looks like it could be used in Frontierland. I know you have excitement for what is up and running now, but when I return in February, I will still have It's A Small World, Haunted Mansion, Grizzly River Run, and who knows what else, to be down. Then throw in the breakdowns, the "taking a break" downs, and there isn't much left to be excited over. I know I wouldn't be going again if it wasn't for my grandkids.

    18:15 - I do pond cleaning and have a couple of my own ( big ones, 35,000 gallons ). I can almost guarantee you that blue pond will not remain like that for long, maybe a month or two, so photograph it now. The previous pond wasn't green because they painted it that way. It started blue as well. The water is like a big magnifying glass and once the algae starts ( inevitable ) the water will turn green as will the basin's surface. Even if you drain it, all subsequent refills will be green unless you completely scrub or resurface it. I'm not trying to be negative, only telling everyone to get their pictures of that blue water now.

    13:10 Whoa, David! I don't think you can say that "Disney" cares about investing in the parks. What I believe we are seeing specifically is the local management of the Disneyland Resort taking care of their flagship park and preparing it for their 70th Anniversary celebration. All you have to do is go to Walt Disney World to see that Bob Iger cares more about the Cruise Lines than the theme parks. 😢

    The color of the old Tiger Arch seemed more realistic and matched the other stone in the scene...now it has a soot-black look. I also miss the big crack at the top that made its look ancient and...perilous. Did they remove a column out in the water too?

    • @elliestevens9204
      @elliestevens9204 2 дні тому

      I also notice the big crack is gone.

    • @DrStarlander
      @DrStarlander 2 дні тому

      @@elliestevens9204 I know there are folks out there who will say "So what?" but what we expect from Disney is that all the thematic details will be attended to, they will do everything they can (within reason, and this is within reason) to take our imaginations on an adventure and let us believe we are in a real place where consequential things could happen, that they will use every opportunity to nudge our emotions in the desired direction for the experience (in this case a dose of suspense), that all the "plussing" and storytelling will be there. That's "what"!
      I make this comment as a wake-up call to Imagineering, to the parks management, to the company executives. If you don't understand the possibilities of themed entertainment and the lost potential going on, too often lately, you need to step aside, or be moved aside.
      And I realize that may be harsh, but I know there are generations of Imagineers who would agree, who witness the legacy being squandered in small ways and large.

    I'm not sure but for the tiger scene, it looks like the old one is slightly sagging and I don't know if the cracks are meant to be there at the top. They may have had to change it due to a crack in the arch? If left alone it may have collapsed eventually? I notice on the new one there are no cracks so maybe it wasn't a design choice but wear on the old one? Hard to say without an early original of the previous one.
