Tianas sucks! Horrible entrance and murals that look like a child painted them. Fence leading up to the entrance doesn't look right and then it turns into rod iron green. Music sounds nice but not memorable. Empty spaces inside and way less characters and a lousy storyline. I've been going since the 60s and this new ride just doesn't have the Disney magic.
The reason I feel Splash Mountain was so great was anticipation of going over the big drop. The first part of the there was music and no lyrics. Then you going down the first little drop and the singing kicks in. Then the rest of the ride it’s building and building and building. Then you’re told it’s to late to turn back. The fog effects added to the hype. Then you plunge down that hill and it’s everything you’d hoped for.
For me it’s kind of like getting this brand new car that is objectively an upgrade but you still prefer your old and trusty. It’s a great ride in isolation but what we lost was objectively an iconic ride.
Splash was a 1993 Toyota Corolla that never took a day off and was worth it's weight in gold, and Tiana's is a sporty electric vehicle that can't run half the time because of technical issues and has a push-button fake ignition sound :P
Well I certainly wouldn't say Tiana's is an objective upgrade lol. It's the new shiny thing that's great right now for the short term but I feel will fail to live up to the iconic status that Splash has and won't be remembered as fondly - it'll just kind of be there.
I’ll admit I came off as a very hard strong and stubborn person in my opinion of the ride when first riding Tiana’s last Tuesday. I loved splash mountain, it was hands down my favorite ride at the park. I will say I feel like they did a good job with the special effects and animatronics (even though they’ve already been malfunctioning) but I just don’t feel like it fit a thrill ride like Splash Mountain. I feel like it would’ve been perfect if they would’ve just built her a brand new typical dark ride. One of the best things about Splash Mountain was the music and how well it fit the flow of the ride. Welcoming riders with “How do you do”, then changing the tune to something more dark and serious once reaching the vultures and the final drop, then concluding with happy music again with “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Da”, it literally took riders through a ride of emotions. I don’t feel like Tiana did that, it was just happy music all the way through the ride, which would’ve been fine on a typical dark ride but not so much for a thrill ride in my opinion.
The biggest problem with Tiana's Bayou Adventure for me is there's no engaging story. There's no tension, no drama, and no suspense. It's just, we need your help to find critters to play in a band. That story doesn't work for a ride with a thrilling 50 foot drop towards the end. They missed out on the perfect opportunity to include Dr. Facilier in this new attraction. Not that Splash Mountain was perfect, but at least the story was there!
Absolutely agree. Tiana’s is beautiful and colorful but the story is a miss. Especially when they had the opportunity to make it a retelling of the movie and use Dr. Facilier and the voodoo dolls playing the dramatic drumbeat as you go up that mountain. With the splash down implying his demise and the final scene being the frog wedding where Naveen finally kisses a princess and they become human. That’s what I originally thought they were going to do. It’s still an amazing attraction it just has no plot. Also don’t get me started on the plot hole of ray’s berets and how that makes no sense if we are set after the movie…since you know he’s dead.
@26:50 Speaking of experience immersion disassociation - the whole Tiana queue is about food and gardening and her store, as well as the first few minutes if the ride. Then all of a sudden the ride switches to looking fir musicians for a party . I don't think this strange theming mish mosh has sunk into people's minds yet.
Tiana’s is nowhere near Splash. It’s not awful but it’s second rate compared to Splash Mountain. Tiana’s was a massive waste of money when you look at it objectively. Not as bad as buying Fox Studios for 73 billion dollars, but still a poor use of funds with an awful return on investment. And where are all the moss and cypress trees?? They are everywhere in real swamp land.
A "massive waste of money" that will sell millions and millions more in merchandise than Splash Mountain ever did. The actual opposite of an "awful return on investment". Why do you think everything has an IP now?
@@kevinbhieey9188 Because Disney is shallow and cares more about turning the parks into billboards for their other properties than actually delivering compelling ride experiences?
@@A_A610 this is insanely jaded and poorly thought out rationale. they're putting IPs everywhere because the kids like it. i also dont think princess and the frog was an incredible money move or anything (why not go for a money maker like moana if it's just for "turning the parks into billboards"), the movie is old and not really relevant. it just deserved this mountain, tiana deserved a ride.
@@butterfingersman However, they're shoving them in anywhere and everywhere they can with little to no regard for the thematic integrity of where they go (case in point, they're planning to pave over the Rivers of America for a Cars ride...because that makes sense in a frontier setting somehow). Tiana deserved a ride, but not an incoherent mess of a retheme that fundamentally misuses its thrill ride foundation.
I think Dave made a ton of great points. Individually, the scenes are not worse. In some cases, are better than Splash. But they couldn't come up with a better story/plot than looking for band members?? All those imagineers and that's what they ended up with? Luckily, it will still be cute enough for the kiddos. But the story is just very weak. So they did their best to compensate by adding more critters, more color, etc.
Perfect timing! I was just watching your last day for Splash Mtn video and was thinking of the comparison. I'll be there in a few weeks to check it out. Thanks!
To spice it up they needed to add Dr. Facilier who tells us we will never be big again once shrunk. He could be placed throughout...a la Jack Sparrow. Then Madam Odie to the rescue after the falls.
Splash Mountain was far more superior. I think this retheme is definitely a downgrade in a lot of ways because they not only took out the majority of the animatronics & replaced them with screens but the whole story of this attraction is so bland & has no context at all. Splash had a great storyline and it became ominous in some parts where it led up to the drop whereas Tianas has no plot whatsoever. If they would’ve just stuck with the original story from the movie then the attraction would’ve been much more entertaining than what we unfortunately are stuck with now. All in all I give Tiana’s a 4 out of 10. Splash was way too nostalgic for Disney to replace. Rip brer rabbit, bear, and fox 🦊🐰🐻.
Animatronics, technology, art direction, set design, visual appeal all aside, I'm comparing the story of both rides. Gotta be honest, the core story of Splash Mountain was just better. More entertaining, more simple thus understandable. Brer Rabbit running from Brers Fox and Bear whilst outwitting them, until he is almost caught was more stimulating and engaging than....Tiana looking for an animal band for play at her party? It's weird and boring, especially when you're arbitrarily shrunken down to find frog musicians because, you know, "Princess of the Frog." Bayou Adventure's story is contrived and forced to fit the overlay. I'm sure the story could have been done better to work with the existing attraction's bones, but the powers at be deemed this story was the best option. This option narratively just falls flat.
I think that the Metal Fencing in the Queue was meant to match Tiana’s Palace, It’s similar pattern and colors. Thx Freshbaked!!! Awesome comparison, love them both. Will miss Splash but excited for Tiana’s! 😎👍
Having ridden Tiana's during the preview timeframe, I think they did a good job with upgrading the attraction with new and impressive animatronics, great scenery, aesthetics, and music that matches well with the ride course and thrills of the previous Splash Mountain. The one main thing I do still think that Splash did better than Tiana's was the build-up to the big drop. The dread and anticipation of the final drop coinciding with Brer Rabbit's capture was really well done. Lucky enough to have been on the Tokyo Splash Mountain, which I do consider to be the absolute best version of the attraction. I do really enjoy Tiana's though and will gladly continue to enjoy its experience for years and years. Also, anyone complaining that their isn't any interesting story during Tiana's which ruins the attraction, these following Disney attractions have little to no story during their ride experience and yet most everyone loves them: Space Mountain, Matterhorn, Soarin', Grizzly River Run, Test Track, and TRON
The ones you listed at the bottom aren’t supposed to have a story, since they’re simply just thrill rollercoaster type rides. Tianas not having a story is just boring.
I think its missing any threat story wise. Splash had that build up. The section where you get shrunken down should have been by Dr. Facilier. Then have Mama Odie re-enlarge you at the top of the hill, and Splash! You're back to full size and ready to attend the big party.
Space mountain was a addition that built on Walt's fascination with space travel documented in his weekly Disney show. The Matterhorn was accompanied by a Disney movie.
The problem with comparing the two attractions will always be that Disney for the past decade let Splash Mt. deteriorate and abandoned any major refurbishments beyond utilitarian ones, so any of the aesthetic upgrades Tiana's made to the area could just as well have been made to Splash but Disney intentionally wanted it to fail at this. Several key scenes in Tiana's just make no sense or are duplicated to extend the story ("that band can play" being said three times over three separate scenes), not to mention the whole plot of finding a band was solved in the first scene animatronics can be found. But that aside, there's just no sane and genuine person who has ridden both attractions, walked the secret path and the critter country area and can tell me Tiana's soundtrack is better than the Splash medley. It spanned over 7 songs with different tempo and emotion, while everything in Tiana's BGM is upbeat (in the case of secret spice, gratingly so), though most of the songs are at least memorable from the movie.. but they chose to keep the songs while not to do a book report story for the attraction. Ultimately, perhaps the attraction doesn't fail when compared to Splash Mt because there will still be a lot of people who will enjoy Tiana's for the next 30 years as people enjoyed Splash for the 30 years before. But Disney sure failed, because they decided to abandon what works and listen to a vocal minority that only sows division.
The coverage on the music part of the story is understated from most online reviews. As an active musician I felt this was a love letter to all musicians. Setting up the musical modes from queue through the final number at the party was very well done. I am not completely sure, as I only road at MK, is the beat never changes. The scoring for the whole ride was pure joy for me.
I feel like people need to give it some time for the “new ride” hype to wear off cause yes, it may SEEM like a fun new change, but unlike something like Haunted Mansion Holidays or Hyperspace Mountain, this is what you’re stuck with. How long will it be before people start going “ok, that was fun, can we go back to the original now”? I predict not long.
Nice to hear some nuance about this ride for a change. Everything else aside, this project is going to fuel discussion/debate for decades, so that's gotta count for something.
I was at Disneyland the year Splash Mountain opened, and I will be there this year for the opening of Tiana’s. I will miss Splash but am excited to experience Tiana’s
i agree, but at least the best version of tower of terror still exists in florida. also worth mentioning that they still have a fantastic splash mountain at tokyo disneyland!
I don’t know about aesthetics.. the scenic elements of Splash were outdated and not impressive. I think Tiana’s is so much more fresh and exciting to look at! This is what Disney should be!
@ if Disney had added to Splash over the years or done a revamp (so to speak) it could have lasted decades. They didn’t really put money into it or ever do a real refresh of the attraction since it had opened. Tiana’s looks better right now only because it’s a fresh coat of paint.
@ no Tiana’s looks better because it is relevant to today. Many people know who Tiana is they know the movie and the story. Almost nobody knows what song of the south is. Splash mountain was just a ride nothing more until people learned it would be changed. Disney has to keep moving forward. That’s literally Walt’s legacy. It’s a theme park not your therapy office.
Disney had to remove Splash given racial sterotypes with some of the characters, andf racially insensitive theming glamorizing the post civil war South which resisted reconstruction integration. Not something we should be wishing we had back. And I loved Splash like anyone, but ethical/moral principles are priority, especially for Disney.
@@Facilitate.Inform oh please splash did not have any racial steriptypes at all. Infact nothing from splash except for the brers and songs came from the film everything else was original to the ride or was repurposed from America sings. And nothing in the ride itself even screamed racism.
@@newhere2419 might be a bit biased and tone def then... the movie had cotton fields throughout, portraying the South in this positive light when in historical fact the reality was quite dark, the South being deeply immoral having been on the side preserving slavery (went to war over it), which economic prosperity was entirely built upon slavery, and which even post civil war continued to prosper economically on an utterly impoverished working class of African Americans, along with generally rejecting reconstruction and integration. You can understand why activists and Disney fans would want the change.
@@bewarebewear1507 The Brer fox, rabbit, and bear are main characters in the movie and ride. The Bear and fox come off as white hillbillies hunting down an African American rabbit. Remus is portrayed as a simple, uneducated, subservient, saying “yes’r, yes’m” much like the rabbit was on the ride, with this happy go lucky attitude many slaves had to adopt out of necessity given their dire circumstances. Doesn't have to "scream" racism to be offensive and un-Disney. And Songs of the South isn't without it's positives, Remus is well respected in the movie, it was the first movie, film was heavily starred by an African American cast, but we can't look at things in a vacuum.
I went through a few rides last year with a 360 camera, I can watch them back with VR goggles. You should get a 360 just so you can frame any point how ever you want, and to upload full 360 ride throughs! It’s truly amazing.
Exactly, David loves Disney so much that he wants to make it better than it really is. I've been going since the 60s and I'm an artist and collector of vintage Disney. I feel that Baxter leaving says it all. It's not a good replacement at all.
There are many wonderful aspects of the Tina Bayou Adventure makeover of Splash Mountain. But the exterior of Tiana's has three poorly executed aspects: First, the area around the murals is a mess: replacing the stone with wood is a setback, the service door is ugly, and the combo of fancy iron railing with rustic wood wall is confusing. This area needs work. Second, the artificial orange roof looks really cheap. For as great as Disney is at rock work and other scenic textures, they do not have a grip on simulating shake shingle roofs -- they need to put a team on this. In fact, there are much better, more convincing materials on the market for homeowners than what Disney is using. Third, given the theme is that we're going to a Mardi Gras party, it's a big "miss" that there are no festive Mardi Gras decorations anywhere around the attraction, in the queue, or leading up to the final scene.
Great video. I do feel like a lot of the improvements you were pointing out had to do with 2024 upgrades. We have to remember Splash Mountain opened in 1989. Can we imagine if a brand new Splash Mountain (or total upgrade) opened today? The visuals and animatronics along with the SM story line would be outstanding. Also, lets not forget about the music that we have lost on the new version. I have yet to ride Tiana's but will be going soon to see first hand.
The mountain is now all about Tiana's Food company with her kitchen and delivery truck and gardens...but the ride has nothing to do with any of that. Food is not mentioned. Rather, it's about finding a band...but it's so weird they don't have an explanation for why this is an urgent problem on the day of the party. What they could have done, is when you see Tiana in front of the frosted glass doors on the first lift-hill, they could use rear-projection to show human band members with trombones and tubas blaring discordant noises supposedly rehearsing behind the doors. Tiana would have her hands clasped over her ears and then ask for our help to find musicians. The urgency would be clear: she's discovered on the day of the party that the human band is no good, so we need to go to the bayou to find animal musicians! This can be done so easily and cheaply and make the whole storyline meaningful and urgent.
Very fair and objective comparison. A ride perfected: no. A ride improved: yes. For those who've been on Splash Mountain (with some of us going back to it's origins), we're going to miss the drama that was an integral part of the ride. Yet, for those without the familiarity of the old, they won't be disappointed with the presented task in Tiana's Bayou Adventure. As for everyone else, with an open heart and mind, they too will come to enjoy the attraction (and for myself, I'm pretty good with the newly finished product).
LOL..When Dave said "They always need our help.. Cant u do anything on your own??". I instantly thought of Mr.Incredible.. "No matter how many times u save the world, it always gets back in jeopardy. Sometimes i just want it to stay saved, u know.". 😅😂😊
Oh i remember that photo kiosk! One of my last years of high school, my family and I took a trip to DL. My mom and brother hate roller coaster rides (but my mom doesnt mind drop rides like ToT, but i digress..) ..but that day my dad & I convinced my mom & brother to ride Splash Mountain at least once! We had the log to ourselves! And at the end, we checked our awesome pic and bought a fancy Splash Mountain picture frame to commemorate it! That frame still sits at my parents house! Also, the next day, we rope dropped Splash and walked on immediately! My mom wasnt afraid of Splash anymore after that day and continues to go on it! It was a trip to remember! I agree with others about the lack of thrill in the story. They should've told a better story... cmon Disney...
Women were pulling their tops up/off for that camera for decades. On my final ride before the retheme the woman directly in front of me did it. Flash Mountain.
The beauty of Splash Mt (like other dark rides at DL and WDW) is that the story was easily conveyed without the need for much exposition. Now, Tiana is constantly telling us what she (and we) are doing. I hate having to be told what the story is. Universal does that with their Harry Potter rides. Harry and the gang are constantly telling us what's going on and what we need to do. That SHOULDN'T be necessary. A well constructed ride storyline doesn't need to have that exposition. The components of the ride should make the story obvious. Disney-the self proclaimed king of storytelling-failed with this project. As far as the aesthetics are concerned, Splash Mt used to be far better maintained (both AA's, lighting, and mechanics) attraction. Lighting was poor to non existent in both east and west coast versions for at least 5 years before they were closed. The MK version, when in top form, outshined the DL version, as many improvements were made when the ride was constructed three plus years after the DL version opened. Expanded scenes, new AA's (not repurposed) and higher capacity made it one of the few MK attractions that was better than the DL original. Sadly, these improvements made the Disneyland designed Tiana's Bayou Adventure work to its disadvantage. The pacing of the MK version is poor considering the speed of the logs (slower) and the additional show space that should have had a larger number of AA's. I would say that the only bright spot of the MK version is the queue, which works much better than the DL version. Sadly, guests don't jump in line just for a queue. Overall, TBA is a pleasant outing, but far from what Disney should have given us, and if we were able to compare a brand new Tiana to a brand new Splash, I think Splash would win the contest. Either way, Thanks Fresh Baked, for providing this in depth comparison of the last "Before and After". Your effort is highly appreciated!
I do not like the weird shape of the top of mountain. They really screwed up when they cut the tree budget. Think they could have at least shaped it better. The way it has those protruding points on sides is weird, really noticeable on left side when looking at it
18:10 Imagineers seemed more concerned about representing New Orleans culture than anything else. Carmen Smith advised and she’s basically the diversity person, which isn’t a bad thing all in all, but didn’t quite help the design and theming of the ride. Hence some of the controversial decisions like replacing the fencing in the queue with wrought-iron.
Something I have liked from seeing the change, it looks cooler. The red is such a warm color and from my memory it always felt so hot passing by. Now with all the green covering and green being a cool color it just looks like it is more enjoyable to be around. I have yet to visit and it might be some time before I do but I am looking forward to visiting again and going for a ride.
The pickup is a 1928 or 1929 Model A Ford Pickup. The rear fenders look a bit wide, like hot rod fenders. Possibly they bought a hot rod pickup and changed the wheels back to the wires.
I agree with most people when they say that the story line feels a bit tame. I am guessing that what was said in executive meetings was something like "if we are going to budget $140+ million to redo this ride, then the story better be G-rated and safe as heck." So sadly, this probably killed any story-line with voodoo and Dr. Facilier, thus it does lack that conflict interesting element that a villain would have given the ride experience.
also, just rode tiana's, wow i prefer it SO so so much to splash mountain. i think the song is better (controversial i know! but the joyful celebration song is just so much more my pace!), i love the jovial upbeat party mood of it all, i love the new theming to the lift hill (this used to be my most hated part of splash mountain, it is panic attack inducing...), i love the upgraded animatronics, i love the new colors throughout the ride day or night (gosh it is AMAZING looking at night!!!!), etc etc etc. i feel like it is such an upgrade! im now really happy and excited to go on this ride! no, it doesnt have that beautiful warmth of taking the earlier drops and seeing those awesome orange rooms and funny scenes, but i just feel like the story and mood of tianas is just an incredible improvement. i can totally follow the "get the band together" storyline when i ride, and i love the payoff at the end. im glad i like it!
if i remember correctly, there was a donkey in the spot where tiana is in the critter band scene. there was domething on the right before the laughing place, im pretty sure it was br'er rabbit laughing.
No way is tianas better. Splash had everything! More pleasing to the eye, way better story and music. You can put nice colors on any ride but if the story isn't there and music plus characters aren't very memorable all thats left in this case is a log ride. Log rides are fun but thats all it is now. Just my thoughts.
“There are no mountains in The bayou” The imagineers did try to fix this. First, the cut down the dead tree, making the facade literally shorter. Second, they put large trees in the foreground of the facade. Third, they made the mountain monochromatic. The old contrasting color scheme emphasized tiers adding the the sense of height The new facade makes the mountain look shorter than before
Now look at the top of the mountain and think graphically. Do you see the pug face? Two large eyes, covered in plants, pug flat nose. The opening is the mouth do you see the stone teeth.
I had not been to Disney in many years as I moved out of state. So when we got to go in 2022 I was planning on buying the picture (I didn't know it had gone to all to getting it on your phone) so I was rather surprised it was closed. Then it closed right before or next visit in 2023. And we was already there this year. So we wont get to see this in person till next year.
I agree the left side of minimal rocks and Brier Patch is week, BUT, the right side of thick dead Brier Patch denotes DANGER, what are we getting into!!! Beautiful greenery denotes what...nice safe boring theme!!!
cool side-by-side. the "we need your help" rant is hilarious and so true. (no idea why, but it reminded me of mr. incredible saying, "i just cleaned up this mess. can we keep it clean for 10 minutes!". 😂) the story for tiana's bayou adventure is definitely lacking, but the attraction looks cute. can't wait to ride it, but no, there should not be that much water. splashed is one thing; soaked is another.
My main thing with this ride is that they didn't think of an actual story with it. It felt so half assed. "we need a band for the party" then like immediately "Oh yeah we know critters who play music" they shoulda brought in Dr. Facilier so have some sorta conflict, but no, Disney wanted to avoid voodoo cause of religion BS. The animatronics are impressive, but you move by them so quickly you don't really get to appreciate their movements, and the ones you do get more time with are just basic animatronics like the frogs or the critters moving their arms.
Splash Mountain holds so many memories for me. It was one of the most iconic rides, and the family ride picture we got from my first trip was my favorite souvenir. I am hopeful that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will have some of the same magic when we go next.
Sucks I missed the MK preview. Darn work got in the way😂! Is it going to be virtual que Friday? If so, thats gonna suck for people who aren't fast enough on the app!
We ask Disney to entertain us and that’s what they have done. It looks lively and entertaining and look forward to riding it. I wish they would have included the Royal Street Bachelors in the attraction somewhere to pay homage to the three original members from the 1960’s that performed in New Orleans Square.
1:05:07 Tiana scene has a fountain Exactly like Magnolia Park (RIP) that is now in HM queue (please make it lit and functional again Disneyland). Seeing it here in this lit night scene made me tear up.
FreshBaked. David, like everyone else I have my own thoughts to add. I don't like how the screens that display Mama Odie where she tells us what she going to do to us but our log has already gone past her. So you don't see the effect. Mama Odie on the last lift hill is that a turkey leg in her left hand? Mama Odie in the very last scene she does her speil then she just stops in mid movement like all the air's been taken out of her. Then when the next log arrives she just starts straight up again. If you should catch it the effect is quiet disconcerting. Over the years the old Splash could have done with an upgraded lighting package. I wonder why Disney Imagineers decided to put more water in the flume than before? I suppose we should be thankfull we still have a "Splash" but it needs Mama Odies boat in a tree on top of the hill. Cheers Chris Perry.
theres a donkey pulling a cart on the right for splash on the right where the lighting was usually dark or usually broken also remember lighting was usually a issue for Splash where some of the figures were dark or hard to see
Dave, you mentioned how the part we are shrunk down in Tiana’s ride doesn’t connect and isn’t clearly synergistic with the story. I think they should and could have put in the shadow man to help explain the whole human and frog sized differences in the ride. Who know they may one day. I wonder why the shadow man was omitted.
17:30 David they absolutely wanted the gates to look that way. In terms of theming the wood wouldn't have cut it. The gates had to theme with the new building and the fact that its a business in New Orleans. The wood would have looked tacky and out of place. Plus there was barely a queue there before, just some stanchions and a rope.
Splash Mountain should have become the Western River Expedition and Tiana should be a dark ride. Watching Splash Mountain become Broccoli Mountain is awful.
The new fence may have been changed to a contrasting material and color as a cue that is where the entrance is located. Having stated that. A wood fence with a complimentary color would be better. The metal fencing seemed out of place to me.
I like the old one better, because it looked more rugged. And because it looked more rugged, that makes it look more like a thrill ride. And it use to match well with thunder mountain which you can see just over rivers of America. Yes, I already miss the old look.
Mamma Rabbit is warning her babies, including Brer (and us) that if we go to the laughing place, the fox, who is cunning, will catch them (us). The laughing place is the Briar Patch (the plunge) as that's how Brer Rabbit escapes Brer Fox and Brer Bear. The place on the ride where you, David, call the laughing place, where Brer Bear was stuck getting the honey, is actually just a scene showing how confident Brer Rabbit was of conning the Fox and the Bear. "Now don't you go throwin' me in that there briar patch" is the plunge at the end when you escape Fox and Bear. And Brer Rabbit is laughing at the bottom cause of course, he conned Brer Fox and Brer Bear! I used to watch Song of the South all the time as a child and remember when Splash Mountain opened. It's my favourite ride with a great story and they RUINED it with dumb Tiana. Weaker story by far and I don't understand why it's so popular in the park. She's taken over 2 lands and it wouldn't surprise me if they put her in Frontierland too.
Metal fences similar to those are a feature of New Orleans. Using them to line the queues adds a touch of authenticity to the idea that you're somewhere in Louisiana. The old wooden railings were just generically "rustic". Do a web search of "fences in New Orleans" and you'll see a lot of fences like that or much fancier.
I have been waiting to watch this, we rode for the first time last night. My reaction was similar, I feel the ending is great, however the build up to the drop was boring and the story is hard to follow. Thank you for highlighting the positives in the landscape and lighting. I love Splash Mt due to childhood memories of riding with my dad, but I really gave this one a fair try….Also with the bright light shinning on us as we ascended to the drop, I thought we were going to heaven, lol!
Hey Fresh Baked! Does anyone remember when the queues for HM and Splash would co mingle on the bridge and you couldn't tell who was waiting on which line? Cause I do.
I really like all the pops of color. The yellows and greens really look inviting and welcoming. Plus all the foliage around really ties the area together. And I’m glad there is another single rider line.
This side-by-side review is well worth doing, but it might be a little more fair to compare the new Tiana's to a well-maintained Splash (Tokyo Disneyland). The original Splash was really on its last legs toward the end.
The actual issue is that there are 100s of thousands of people that grew up that feel that part of their childhood just got ripped away. Tiana's is fine, but it will NEVER replace our nostalgia, and when our parents took us to a Disney park.
When you’re making your point about an attraction being removed that people loved, Are you referring to the removal of: The Indian Village? Bear Country? The Country Bear Jamboree? Mine Train Thru Nature’s Wonderland? Big Thunder Ranch? Skyway? Peoplemover? Adventure thru Inner space? Circarama? Circlevision? Carousel of Progress? America Sings? Flight to the Moon? Mission to Mars? Magic Journeys Captain EO? Honey I Shrunk the Audience? The Rocket Jets? You seriously didn’t think that a simple retheme is as bad as the removal of an attraction, did you? Even Walt said he expected Disneyland to change over time. Mourning Splash is totally acceptable… then move on.
@@davidmacias741 They changed it so they can sell more merch. Splash Mountain wasn't moving Loungefly bags or beignet mix. Tiana's merch flies off the shelves.
1. That's Eudora with Charlotte at the finale on the left. 2. I honestly can't wait to watch all the TPM Vids that come out from these animatronics breaking down. 3. I wanna know Tony Baxter's honest thoughts about them changing his ride so much. Have any of his other rides been refurbished on this level?
Thank you Freshbaked for doing this it is really important to compare to see how not bad the new ride was compared to the old one in certain areas but it will not change people's minds they only care that Splash Mountain is gone and if you grew up with it they will hate anything that replaces it. I am not one of these people. Like Walt said Disneyland is never complete
Walt Disney is dead and that philosophy died with him. Disneyland was officially completed in 1995 with Indiana Jones. When I take over Disney that philosophy is going away in favor of Make Disney Great Again as I take the parks backward as if Trump were in charge of Disney. The idea of Disneyland never being complete is not some “third rail” that must be adhered to.
@@trevx360 It's the truth and you will show proper respect to a military man, civvie. I outrank you and you take orders from me, do you understand? You will answer "Yes Sir" when asked a question. Yes, Disneyland was completed a long time ago and that philosophy must go. There is no imagination left in the world. There is nothing wrong with keeping the park frozen in time and never adding new things and that's what Disney under me will do. I will also only let Disney purists the parks because they're the only guests who are welcome.
The splash mountain music was awesome! The buildup to the drop was iconic!
@@Papa4real the music was some of the best of any attraction in Disney history
The reason I feel Splash Mountain was so great was anticipation of going over the big drop. The first part of the there was music and no lyrics. Then you going down the first little drop and the singing kicks in. Then the rest of the ride it’s building and building and building. Then you’re told it’s to late to turn back. The fog effects added to the hype. Then you plunge down that hill and it’s everything you’d hoped for.
Splash mountain was whimsical and way better all the way around.
Not 🤡@@davidmacias741
I agree 💯%! They've taken our happy place away and replaced it with something that I find to be substandard.
Completely agree. If splash never existed and this just came out from scratch, aside from “mountains in the bayou?” Everyone would largely love it
Well said. They took something absolutely wonderful and replaced it with something substandered.
Your right, this is just a log ride now.
Exactly. Splash was the perfect mix of excitement, joyfullness, whimsy, and "danger" all in one ride. Tiana's if void of most of this.
I miss Splash Mountain 😢
The biggest problem with Tiana's Bayou Adventure for me is there's no engaging story. There's no tension, no drama, and no suspense. It's just, we need your help to find critters to play in a band. That story doesn't work for a ride with a thrilling 50 foot drop towards the end. They missed out on the perfect opportunity to include Dr. Facilier in this new attraction. Not that Splash Mountain was perfect, but at least the story was there!
agreed, Tiana's could def use more gravitas and suspense, sense of danger, etc
@@Facilitate.Inform Yessss!!! They can have all the fancy animatronics and stuff, but if the story isn't there, it's not worth the effort.
I support any ride with Keith David’s voice talent involved
@@magicallymeganne3786 A retelling of the movie would've worked better actually because it goes back to the story being great!
Really nice video. You put a lot of work into this. Thank you. And thanks also for all you do. ❤
I am going to miss splash mountain so much
Awesome. Thanks for letting us know.
@@WindowtotheMagic the customer is always right
I will miss it forever, my whole family does
Splash Mountain is not closed. Go enjoy it. Tiana is a fake.
Splash forever 🤎
I was waiting for a side by side comparison thank you
Perfect timing! I was just watching your last day for Splash Mtn video and was thinking of the comparison. I'll be there in a few weeks to check it out. Thanks!
hope you had / will have / are having a fun time with tianas! i just rode it the other day and had a fantastic time!
I really enjoyed watching the breakdown and seeing the differences very cool! Thank you, David. I can't wait to take my boys on this ride.
"Molly you're in danger girl" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 A phrase i never thought I'd hear David say🤣🤣🤣
Love this video - thanks for taking the time!
And the lack of Dr. Facilier is disappointing. I understand why he's not there, but they did miss the mark.
I think that the Metal Fencing in the Queue was meant to match Tiana’s Palace, It’s similar pattern and colors. Thx Freshbaked!!! Awesome comparison, love them both. Will miss Splash but excited for Tiana’s! 😎👍
I grew up riding Slash Mountain, i loved that ride so i am sad to see it go
Having ridden Tiana's during the preview timeframe, I think they did a good job with upgrading the attraction with new and impressive animatronics, great scenery, aesthetics, and music that matches well with the ride course and thrills of the previous Splash Mountain.
Also, anyone complaining that their isn't any interesting story during Tiana's which ruins the attraction, these following Disney attractions have little to no story during their ride experience and yet most everyone loves them:
Space Mountain, Matterhorn, Soarin', Grizzly River Run, Test Track, and TRON
I agree on the TDL Splash is the best of the bunch
The ones you listed at the bottom aren’t supposed to have a story, since they’re simply just thrill rollercoaster type rides. Tianas not having a story is just boring.
I think its missing any threat story wise.
Splash had that build up.
The section where you get shrunken down should have been by Dr. Facilier.
Then have Mama Odie re-enlarge you at the top of the hill, and Splash! You're back to full size and ready to attend the big party.
So how do you feel that Tiana's references a actual mine that used 400 slaves?
Space mountain was a addition that built on Walt's fascination with space travel documented in his weekly Disney show.
The Matterhorn was accompanied by a Disney movie.
2:01 One thing is certain, Tiana’s looks A LOT better and fits in with its surroundings in California better than in Florida.
I've been saying the same thing on other videos that they keep saying the band can play and it's like yeah we get it is there anything else to say?
The coverage on the music part of the story is understated from most online reviews. As an active musician I felt this was a love letter to all musicians. Setting up the musical modes from queue through the final number at the party was very well done. I am not completely sure, as I only road at MK, is the beat never changes. The scoring for the whole ride was pure joy for me.
oh my gosh i love the new music, it is incredible!
There was an animatronic mule on the other side of the Brer Butt in Splash.
I was at Disneyland the year Splash Mountain opened, and I will be there this year for the opening of Tiana’s. I will miss Splash but am excited to experience Tiana’s
I still miss tower of terror.
Are you lost, friend?
Are you lost? @@WindowtotheMagic
i agree, but at least the best version of tower of terror still exists in florida. also worth mentioning that they still have a fantastic splash mountain at tokyo disneyland!
I miss the tortilla factory
It’s coming back. Disney is losing Marvel under antitrust and will have to remove all Marvel attractions from the parks.
I really likes your side by side. You had to go through a lot of footage to get it just right for the side by side. Thank you
Tiana’s is ok - but Splash Mountain had that nostalgic and classic Disney feel. Splash Mountain was more aesthetically pleasing to me.
@@fsbof97 they could have just updated and maintained it instead of letting it go to hell, they probably let it go to hell from 2010 till 2020
TBA would’ve been great if they did the old concept art of the exterior & add Dr. Facilier in the story or followed the storyline of the film
37:38 - The doors have Main Office printed to read on the other side. So apparently this lift hill is the main office. You're right that it's weird.
It was definitely exciting to do all 4 mountains again! Thunder mountain, space mountain, Matterhorn, and Tiana’s Bayou.
Can you still see the train pass by over head at the final big scene at 1:05:35?
the sign that drives you crazy is no more different then driving down the highway and seeing signs for up coming motels, food and gas stations.
its not better. They SHOULD have just created Tianas as a new ride instead of removing Slash Mt.
@@Facilitate.Inform i didn't notice the movie "glamorizing ' anything, just an old man telling children stories
Baxter leaving the project is all you need to know.
Exactly, David loves Disney so much that he wants to make it better than it really is. I've been going since the 60s and I'm an artist and collector of vintage Disney. I feel that Baxter leaving says it all. It's not a good replacement at all.
There was no project. Tiana is not real. Splash Mountain is open.
Great video and commentary Dave. Thanks! Was Ray, the firefly, in the attraction? -Frank
Almost catching up. Great videos!
LOL..When Dave said "They always need our help.. Cant u do anything on your own??". I instantly thought of Mr.Incredible.. "No matter how many times u save the world, it always gets back in jeopardy. Sometimes i just want it to stay saved, u know.". 😅😂😊
omg, i just wrote something similar. 😂 great minds and all that...
I agree with you 100%
I do not like the weird shape of the top of mountain. They really screwed up when they cut the tree budget. Think they could have at least shaped it better. The way it has those protruding points on sides is weird, really noticeable on left side when looking at it
I've always been curious about which mountain in the bayou this is supposed to best represent.
I think the effect will be even more welcome come summer, all the orange and bare rock on Splash Mountain felt oppressive on a hot summer day.
totally agree with the color theory actually, this area is very cool now!
It's a salt mine at 38:00…where they would store things for cold storage once all the salt has been mined.
But nothing can grow in salt
6:41 PERFECT PICTURE SPOT, with TRAIN in the background for 1 second!!
The pickup is a 1928 or 1929 Model A Ford Pickup. The rear fenders look a bit wide, like hot rod fenders. Possibly they bought a hot rod pickup and changed the wheels back to the wires.
Splash mountain and Princess and the Frog IP deserved much better.
Facilier, thus it does lack that conflict interesting element that a villain would have given the ride experience.
thanks for this super detailed video!
also, just rode tiana's, wow i prefer it SO so so much to splash mountain. i think the song is better (controversial i know! but the joyful celebration song is just so much more my pace!), i love the jovial upbeat party mood of it all, i love the new theming to the lift hill (this used to be my most hated part of splash mountain, it is panic attack inducing...), i love the upgraded animatronics, i love the new colors throughout the ride day or night (gosh it is AMAZING looking at night!!!!), etc etc etc. i feel like it is such an upgrade! im now really happy and excited to go on this ride! no, it doesnt have that beautiful warmth of taking the earlier drops and seeing those awesome orange rooms and funny scenes, but i just feel like the story and mood of tianas is just an incredible improvement. i can totally follow the "get the band together" storyline when i ride, and i love the payoff at the end. im glad i like it!
if i remember correctly, there was a donkey in the spot where tiana is in the critter band scene. there was domething on the right before the laughing place, im pretty sure it was br'er rabbit laughing.
No way is tianas better. Splash had everything! More pleasing to the eye, way better story and music. You can put nice colors on any ride but if the story isn't there and music plus characters aren't very memorable all thats left in this case is a log ride. Log rides are fun but thats all it is now. Just my thoughts.
“There are no mountains in The bayou”
The imagineers did try to fix this. First, the cut down the dead tree, making the facade literally shorter. Second, they put large trees in the foreground of the facade. Third, they made the mountain monochromatic. The old contrasting color scheme emphasized tiers adding the the sense of height
The new facade makes the mountain look shorter than before
Good thing It's a hill and not a mountain.
Now look at the top of the mountain and think graphically. Do you see the pug face? Two large eyes, covered in plants, pug flat nose. The opening is the mouth do you see the stone teeth.
It does not justify the cost, operating expenses and loss of revenue which Disney needs right now.
If you have to explain to sell then isn't working.
I can't unsee it now as looking like broccoli! 🥦 very good description of it though.
Too early to think about this but I'd love to see a holiday overlay. "Holidays in the Bayou" could be fun!
Thank you for the comparison.
The new version looks so much better to me. I can't wait to actually ride it. Thanks for this very comprehensive video!
Yeah, love all the greenery
Thanks for the video. I look forward to riding TBA.
Cheers Chris Perry.
theres a donkey pulling a cart on the right for splash on the right where the lighting was usually dark or usually broken also remember lighting was usually a issue for Splash where some of the figures were dark or hard to see
Also, the photos were always inside originally. Where they are now is where you purchased those photos.
The yellow entrance facade and the green rails for the queue are consistent with Tiana's Palace color scheme and iron bordered patio.
Splash Mountain should have become the Western River Expedition and Tiana should be a dark ride.
Watching Splash Mountain become Broccoli Mountain is awful.
true, they could have changed it and maintained the look of the ride
The new fence may have been changed to a contrasting material and color as a cue that is where the entrance is located. Having stated that. A wood fence with a complimentary color would be better. The metal fencing seemed out of place to me.
I like the old one better, because it looked more rugged. And because it looked more rugged, that makes it look more like a thrill ride. And it use to match well with thunder mountain which you can see just over rivers of America. Yes, I already miss the old look.
1:08:17 Dave must have Haunted Mansion on his brain lol I'm sure he meant Splash Mountain/Tiana's.
The VQ line was all the way to haunted mansion last weekend. They’ll still be queuing people up the bridge like the old days when it’s busy
We saw you walking up main street just before the peraid, but going back to the topic,...I MISS zippy de do da music....so Disney 😢
It was Southern storytelling about animals, sweet and innocent
Is Raymond (firefly) in the ride?
Metal fences similar to those are a feature of New Orleans. Using them to line the queues adds a touch of authenticity to the idea that you're somewhere in Louisiana. The old wooden railings were just generically "rustic". Do a web search of "fences in New Orleans" and you'll see a lot of fences like that or much fancier.
Are the windows from the train still there?
When you’re making your point about an attraction being removed that people loved, Are you referring to the removal of:
The Indian Village?
Bear Country?
The Country Bear Jamboree?
Mine Train Thru Nature’s Wonderland?
Big Thunder Ranch?
Skyway?
Peoplemover?
Adventure thru Inner space?
Circarama?
Circlevision?
Carousel of Progress?
America Sings?
Flight to the Moon?
Mission to Mars?
Magic Journeys
Captain EO?
Honey I Shrunk the Audience?
The Rocket Jets?
You seriously didn’t think that a simple retheme is as bad as the removal of an attraction, did you?
Even Walt said he expected Disneyland to change over time. Mourning Splash is totally acceptable… then move on.
@@WindowtotheMagic go tell the stock holders
@@WindowtotheMagicthey didn't change it because Walt said there would always be change. They changed it to be politically correct.
@@davidmacias741 one and the same thing
@@davidmacias741 They changed it so they can sell more merch. Splash Mountain wasn't moving Loungefly bags or beignet mix. Tiana's merch flies off the shelves.
1. That's Eudora with Charlotte at the finale on the left.
2. I honestly can't wait to watch all the TPM Vids that come out from these animatronics breaking down.
3. I wanna know Tony Baxter's honest thoughts about them changing his ride so much. Have any of his other rides been refurbished on this level?
Imagination is another prime example of an incredible attraction utterly ruined by incompetent overhauls.
Hi Dave, I really miss the old splash mountain but I can’t wait to ride the new Tiana Bayou. I will be at Disneyland November 28.
Splash Mountain is alive and well. You will never ride Tiana's Bayou Adventure because it's a fake and a hoax.
Exactly, Walt said disneylands would always be changing and never truly complete
@stanfordite1 Dude this is a weird and unhinged response.
@stanfordite1 nah you buggin
Tiana’s appears “half baked”
