Congrats on the new PRS! I got a PRS SE 2 years ago, and since then have remembered that Nu Metal/Post-Grunge/Pop Punk/Emo/Metalcore are sick, so now I'm One Step Closer to buying a Mini Rectifier so I can relive the tones of the late 90s and Early 2000s.

The Dual sounded huge because of the extended lows and fizzy highs, sounded very scooped like the mesa sound we all love. The Mini didn't sound bass heavy of fizzy (still lots of highs), i could pick up around the 800hz area a bump (which brings up the pick attack) and another around the 200hz-300hz (which sounds woofy/boxy, not particular to the mesa sound).

The 85/15 is a great take on what a modern yet calm pickup could be, and the \m/ mainly fixes all the things people don't like in the HFS (spongy lows and sometimes harsh trebles).

It's really interesting to me that Mesa went to such lengths to give players headroom in the power amp stage, throwing 150 watts at us in the Triple Rectifier, clearly meant to cater to a player who wanted all their distortion to come from the preamp stage - but it's the Mini Rectifier that sounds the best in a mix. There's something about a power amp being pushed in a smaller amp that's hard to replicate, and it's interesting as I said, that Mesa went in the totally opposite direction in the 90s and early 2000s.

I still play through a Mesa TripleRec 1/2 stack (when in a venue/area that warrants it.) I've always wanted a PRS, but for now my ESPh1000 & LP Custom sound freakin' amazing.

Beautiful guitar! I think the Dual Rec had a bit more sizzle, and maybe a bit more refined when isolated. But that mini sounded really good too! Just got a Badlander, and looking for a PRS guitar or Music Man Axis to go along with it. You rock, bro!

I am a fan of the mini rectifier. It sounds more dry to me and I prefer that when palm muting. The bass willl fill that void in the mix anyway. Great video again I really enjoy your content !

Low to medium output pickups are actually great for metal; you just need a really high gain amp, or else grab a tube screamer. Vintage Les Paul PAF or L6S Jazz style pickups into a boosted amp actually sounds a LOT better than you'd think. The saturation has a... I guess "smooth with little bubbles quality" would be the right phrasing, idk how else to describe it. Sounds gnarly though. PAF bridge with a p90 neck is my go to, but that's probably just me. TBH, a lot of Nu Metal bands had what sounded like that kind of distortion tone with a modern tone layered over it, especially Linkin Park, because Mike played Ibanez RG's with INF1 and INF2 pickups and Brad always had his PRS with DiMarzio D-sonic bridge pickups, which were medium output and specifically voiced for Dropped C# and lower.

The bigger recto head is certainly “better” to my ear, lots of harmonics and a bit tighter bottom end. But the little mini recto still sounds great. I’ve been using a rectoverb 25 for years with a 2x12 recto cab and have never felt underpowered. It’s the same circuit as the mini but with a spring reverb tank.

Can you replicate Emmpu Vuorinen’s kick ass guitar sound? I’d love to see a Nightwish sound on the recto.

I switched from a 3 channel rectifier to a mini several years ago because I lived in an apartment... the mini was still too loud haha but the size was perfect (with a 112 rectifier cab). I miss having the 100 watt head and the OS 412 cab because of the punchy oomph, but the mini still has the core tone. It's still super punchy though, just not the same visceral experience. high five.

This sounds great. Do you have any videos on achieving a similar tone through Amplitube?
