  • We ride the all-new 2022 Aprilia Tuareg 660! Aprilia has reentered the ADV market with its sporty, nimble, and off-road capable middleweight motorcycle!
    The Tuareg 660 is powered by the same peppy parallel-twin engine found in the RS 660 and Tuono 660 models, with crucial changes to make it suitable for ADV riding. Changes include a camshaft and tune that emphasis low and midrange power, making sure that its claimed 80 horsepower and 52 ft-lbs of torque is delivered in a smooth and approachable manner. Other changes include a new airbox and intake, a low-profile oil pan, shortened gearing, and an all-new exhaust system.
    The Tuareg's new chassis delivers loads of feedback to the rider and stability, whether you're in the twisty sections of the road or tackling the trail. Suspension duties are handled by fully-adjustable KYB components that feature good damping and spring rates, keeping the 9.4-inches of suspension travel in check at all times.
    A full suite of electronics is standard on the Tuareg 660, including multi-channel ABS, adjustable traction control, and four ride modes. Although, an IMU is not provided to maintain a lower MSRP. However, ABS and traction control systems still perform admirably.
    The 2022 Aprilia Tuareg 660 starts at $11,999 and will be hitting U.S. showrooms in February 2022.
    We sent Senior Editor Nic de Sena to the Mediterranean island of Sardinia to see what the 2022 Aprilia Tuareg 660 was all about. He flogged the Tuareg 660 on the curvy Sardinian roads and did some ADV riding to bring you this first ride review.

    I have a feeling this is the new middle weight benchmark. I own a Tuono 660 and couldn't be happier with it. I will be purchasing this bike.

    Thanks for a great review. I own an Aprilia Caponord 1200 which has turned out to be an absolutely brilliant bike and therefore I'm now looking at the Tuareg 660. Its great to see positive reviews like this as I find Aprilia is a very underrated bike manufacturer. G'Day from Sydney.

      Hey Moto Passport,
      As a Caponord owner, the Tuareg might be your style, for sure. Thanks for the kind words as well, but Aprilia did their homework on this one.
      Take care!

    thanks for the review. what I am missing in all those reviews, direct comparison of frame geometry to T700

    • @ultimatemotorcycling
      @ultimatemotorcycling  2 роки тому +6

      Hi Dominik,
      When doing a "first ride" review of a single bike, we try to keep things focused on that specific motorcycle. There is a lot of important ground to cover regarding the riding impression and how it performed during our time in the field without diving into the specs of a bike that isn't there.
      The other factor is that we don't have the Yamaha Tenere 700 on hand during a review like this to discuss how its geometry behaves differently from the Tuareg. For that, we'd want to a back-to-back comparison and do both bikes justice.
      Although I have a decent amount of experience with the T7, I'll save my hardened opinions for a true comparison test. Based on the spec sheet alone, I can point out that the Aprilia does have shorter wheelbase (60.0 in. vs 62.8 in.), steeper rake (26.7 degrees vs. 27 degrees), and longer trail figures than the T7 (4.5 in. vs 4.1 in.), which definitely play a role in the handling differences between the two machines, and part of the puzzle as to why the Aprilia handles so well.
      However, geometry specs don't tell the whole story and don't account for things like suspension setup, weight distribution, power delivery, and more - all of which are crucial when accurately evaluating motorcycles accurately.
      Hope this helps,
      - Nic

    Nice honest review. Will it tempt me away from my Tenere 700, it think yeah for the Aprilia-ness if that suits.

    I dunno, this feels like shilling. I want some actual critical, objective comparison to the T7, 890 Adv, or AT. A lot of this sounds like industry spec sheet filler. I want to know how complicated it is to change oil, check valves, remove body panels, how easy to swap out shock, the kind of stuff RTW tourers are likely to have to do.

    Great review and video! I am thinking about and adv motorcycle because I think they are potentially more versatile depending on the one you get. But, as you pointed out in this video seat height is a concern. You mentioned that you are a 32 inseam and so am I but do you mind saying how tall you are? Have you reviewed the Yamaha yet or are there other adv bikes you have reviewed so I can check it out. Thanks

    • @ultimatemotorcycling
      @ultimatemotorcycling  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Paul,
      Great question and this is something that a lot of people will be wondering about, especially riders like you who are adding an off-road or ADV bike to their stable.
      The seat height is tall (33.85 inches), and within earshot of its competitors, but Aprilia engineers made a point of keeping the bike quite narrow between the knees, allowing riders to reach the deck easier.
      The other factor is suspension setup. As we rode the Tuareg in Sardinia, setup was on the plush side - so, of the 9.4 inches of suspension travel, we'd soak up a couple inches roughly due to static and rider sag. With a rider of my size in the saddle (5-foot 10-inches tall / 190~ pounds), the seat height is probably in the high 32/low 33 inch range. Every motorcycle is subject to static and rider sag, so it's something to remember when looking at seat height. If you have a 32-inch inseam and wear proper ADV/MX boots, you'll probably be good to go.
      I've reviewed a few other bikes in this class, including the Yamaha Tenere 700, KTM 790 Adventure R, Moto Guzzi V 85 TT (sort of in the class), and ridden the KTM 890 Adventure R. The Yamaha is quite narrow as well, but has a slightly taller seat height.

    • @ultimatemotorcycling
      @ultimatemotorcycling  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Bruce,
      I noted some radiant heat because of where the vents are located. Once you're in the wind and rolling along at normal speeds, that doesn't seem to be much of an issue.
      Have fun and stay safe out there! The Tuareg 660 is a blast!

      @ultimatemotorcycling  2 роки тому

      Hey Tom,
      Correct, the claimed wet weight is 449 pounds. I also can't say that I disagree with the lack of CC. When we're talking about machines with touring on the menu, CC is a must.
      Take care!

      Hey Agnw,
      That's where I think the Tuareg has an advantage against many of the bikes in its class, save for the BMW F 850 GS Adventure.
      The Tuareg is plush, comfy, and has loads of wind protection, as well as cruise control. So, from that regard, you're in good shape.
      Thanks!

      @ultimatemotorcycling  2 роки тому +2

      Hey David,
      Without making a straight-up comparison between the two bikes, it'd be tough to answer you with 100% certainty. Having reviewed both bikes, I can touch on a few basics that stand out in my mind, but I'd still like to make a proper comparison to set things in stone.
      The handling, ride quality, and comfort are just a few of the Tuareg's high points that stand out in my mind when I think about its direct competitors. I think the lower seat height and easier reach to the ground will entice many riders towards the Tuareg as well. However, the T7/MT-07 engine has earned all of its accolades fair and square; it's a pip of a parallel-twin. Plus, T7's is no slouch with an MSRP that is unbeatable in its class.
      What I'd strongly encourage you to do is head over to your local dealer and see if you can swing a leg over either model. Something as basic as the seating position could be the determining factor in your choice.

    • @Kruik013
      @Kruik013 2 роки тому +2

      I think the Tuareg will be the better handling bike. But it depends on what you want, a good handling bike full of electronics or a no nonsense bike with a proven engine which is cheap in parts. I would ride around the world with my T7, no electronics to worry about if it fails and lots of dealerships. But, I understand the aprillia will be the better bike.

    Is the swingarm attached to the engine or frame ?

    • @ultimatemotorcycling
      @ultimatemotorcycling  2 роки тому

      Hey Richard,
      The swingarm is mounted directly to the engine, just like the RS 660 and Tuono 660.
