This is a eulogy to the bands original writer, singer and lead guitarist Syd Barrett who left the band after becoming seriously mentally ill, sadly his mind was gone and the song is about the loss of their good friend. The writer of this song Roger Waters had known Barrett the age of 5 and lived on the same street. Its a very sad story but its Barrett who basically got the band recognition but sadly it was fleeting as he only performed on the first album the band did.
You're a singer...you HAVE to do "Great Gig in the Sky" by Floyd. There is no equal to the sheer power of emotion created without words as one progresses through the stages which lead to the end for us all.
Pink Floyd are one of the giants of modern music. They're the 3rd biggest group in history, after The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Just one of their albums has sold more than 99% of artists sell, in total, in their entire careers! They were ridiculously talented musicians who made intelligent, yet emotional, music of the highest order. Half a dozen of their albums are bona fide masterpieces and the others are pretty good too! Their music will still be listened to in a hundred years time. In fact, they still outsell most modern artists, today, roughly 40 years after they broke up! This song is one of their simplest tracks, yet is full of emotional resonance. A beautiful song! :)
"Running over the same old ground, what have we found? the same old fears, Wish you were here" one of the most emotional lines I've ever lied my very ears on, R.I.P Syd and Rick

15 years before videos. What a great track to play in front of a campfire. Pink Floyd is a very skilled thought provoking band. Most of their work is part of a concept album so it can be confusing to pick out singular songs. Try Time and Great Gig in the Sky together.
Definitely try "Time" and if possible carry straight into the following track "The Great Gig in the Sky" from the album The Dark Side of the Moon. And then you will get a feeling for just how deep Pink Floyd really goes!
Many people mistakenly think this is about Syd Barrett, but in an interview Roger Waters said quite emphatically that the only song on the WYWH album that was about Syd was "Shine on you crazy diamond". He went on to say that when he wrote the lyrics to this one he had in mind someone close who had refused to move on in life and had been left behind. He also said that at other times it meant something else, and that some days he didn't really know what it meant himself. He deliberately made the lyrics enigmatic so that the listener could make it mean whatever they wanted it to mean, and it has become an anthem for anyone who has lost someone close to them. The opening guitar chords were composed by David Gilmour who had in mind someone listening to a poor quality radio all alone in their bedroom late at night, and hearing the opening chords, and then joining in himself with the crisper sound of the second guitar. Overall, a stunningly beautiful composition, both instrumentally and lyrically, and a work of complete genius. I associate it with someone very close that I lost long ago and it never fails to bring a tear to my eye.
I think of my brother before schizophrenia took him. He was the best of us...been physically gone a decade now. But that bright, incandescent light he had...how I wish he was here. How I wish he had his life as it can be led.

While in the recording studio, producing this album, a stranger, or so it seemed showed up. It took a couple of moments from the people there, but it was Syd Barrett himself... He was unrecognisable. He stayed briefly, then left again. Sadly, he's left for good now. I hope he's found peace at last... R. I. P.
I remember playing this album the day it came out, I was utterly stuned by it, my old mono record player didn`t do it justice and asked to play it on my older brother`s stereo hi-fi,,, the music still works its magic decades later.
Great reaction MrsPenPal! This band started in the 60's with a guy named Syd Barret and Syd did a lot of drugs and lost his mind and he left the band. The band wrote this album, and a few others, about Syd. Dark Side of The Moon and The Wall were also about Syd. The lyrics are sad because they wished Syd was there. On the album are two songs called Shine On You Crazy Diamond and legend has it that Syd actually showed up in the studio when they were recording this but no one recognized him because he gained a lot of weight and shaved his head and eyebrows. Drugs don't have to kill to hurt people! Thanks for the upload!

@@MrsPenPal YES ! In the listener's mind, this song seems imbued with a melancholy feeling in reference to Syd Barrett which seems obvious. At least for the listener. Because Waters has always said that this title is about him in the first place, the role of each in the great circle of life, and how to take it in hand. In any case, Wish You Were Here can have as many meanings as possible, it literally and perfectly synthesizes the theme of absence.

Yeah, anytime you see anything resembling a music video for bands like Pink Floyd, or Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath, just know that these bands were in full swing long before Mtv introduced formal Music Videos. So they are video compilations after the fact by people that came later. I love your obvious depth. Music clearly hits you as wordless metaphors that you body language and face express beautifully. I look forward to your reaction. To put the song in context the band are referring to Syd Barrett, founder member who left in 1968 due to drug abuse & a breakdown. However, when you closed your eyes they were sonically correct and accurate right down to the bend of each note and the vocal expressions. I was to see them again in 2020 but we had Covidus Interruptus.
If you listen to the whole album, which is dedicated to Syd & also a critique of the (then) music industry, you'll see why it is in mono to start:). Enjoy the album. BTW, you should listen to their masterpiece Dark Side of the Moon. A true 'monolith' of an album, widely regarded as one of the greatest albums ever recorded, sales of about 45 million copies & spent over 13 years in the Billboard album chart. This video is not official, they never made one for it. The guitarist is David Gilmour.
Actually, "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was written as a tribute to their former band member and dear friend, Roger Sydney Barrett. "Wish You Were Here" was written as a statement that Roger Waters made which states that he would rather be an active participant in life and go through its struggles, if need be, as opposed to sitting on the sidelines, as a spectator, and watching life go by without taking an active role in it.
@@MrsPenPal Phew,, thought we`d lost someone, i`m quite into reaction clips as I find them interesting and often give me new music to listen to, keep up the reactions, we love `em.

Thank you for your reaction to this gem by Pink Floyd! You should definitely check out Shine On Your Crazy Diamond, parts 1 - 5. Also, Levon by Elton John! Take care,
Pink Floyd and Tool are my all time favorite bands.... The difficulty with Pink Floyd is that they were an "album band" meaning that while their songs stand on their own pretty well, the albums as a whole tell a story, and listening to a song out of context leaves you with a lot of things you wont understand...
I have a request. You couldn't upload it tho. Get some of your friends together, and put on wizard of oz, and as soon as the second lion roars? Start Pink Floyd Dark Side of the moon. There's video's on UA-cam to show you how. And if you smoke? It makes it so much better. My experience happened 29 years ago. It was spiritual. The music syncs with the movie!
My favorite song of Pink Floyd is "Shine on you crazy diamond". But it is to long for a reaction video. So please, make a reaction to "Comfortably Numb". It is a wonderful song.
Such a beautiful song and a reactor to match. I think you might really like "Great Gig in the Sky" "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" (about the same person "wish you were here" is about : former band member Syd Barrett)
Pink Floyd albums are somewhat unique. The songs are not meant to be listened to separately. In a way, the album is one big song. Even radio stations used to play an entire Pink Floyd album on occasion. I'm not suggesting that you do a reaction video to the entire album, but I do recommend you hear the whole thing :) This album is one of my favorites. They wrote it for their former band member, Syd Barrett. He was gifted, but he lost his sanity and had to quit -- or to put it in their words, "Shine on you crazy diamond."
The album "Wish you were here" has the central theme of absence but in all meanings of the word. - Emotional absence - Physical absence - Reminiscing about somebody Look up "Have a cigar" for a song about emotional absence. It's a sarcastic song about getting a record deal and becoming the cash cow of the record company. But it's sung from the perspective of the executive coaxing the wanna be rockstars who's name he doesn't even remember. As one of the key lyrics is "Oh and by the way, which one's Pink?"
@@MrsPenPal It's also a theme the band brought back a couple of times: Being slaves to the record company. I'm going to name an album of theirs you should react to in full in which main topic is Alienation: "The wall" Now this is kind of a long post but bear with me. Now the idea for "The Wall" came when Pink Floyd were touring to support their "Animals" album. During the last show the band played, bass player Roger Waters spat at the fans and immediately after he did so went "What on earth did I do that for?" So he got the idea in his head to build a wall between the band and the audience but he further elaborated that idea to included emotional walls too. He presented the idea to the band, and they, having gone through the same thing as Waters went through, were gung ho about it. "The Wall" is about this rock star called "Pink Floyd" who has lost all grasp on reality. He's the cash cow of the record company, so many people depend on him to earn them a living and he's expected to smile and just shut up, he's NOT in charge, THEY ARE! The story line revolves around him sitting in his hotel room wondering who's the blame for this situation he finds himself in. - Was it his mother who raised him as a single parent after his father died in the second world war ("Another brick in the wall part 1", "Mother") - Was it the sadistic teachers who quelled his ambition to make it as an artist rather than to encourage it? ("Best days of our lives", "Another brick in the wall part2") - Was it his wife who never understood and started to cheat on him? ("Hey you", "Another brick in the wall part three") - Was it the record company, who even when they found him in cardiac arrest, refused to take him to a hospital, insisting on having him play the show because they didn't want to deal with the legalities of cancelling a show? ("Comfortably numb") - Was it the fans who yell "How high?" when he tells them to jump? ("In the flesh parts one and two", "Run like hell", "Follow the worms") OR and that's where the story ends. - Was he himself to blame for letting all of it happen? ("The trial")
hi mis pen.😊😍🧡❤️👍 musically and melodywise the best song by them is "Shine on you crazy diamond" the full, long version. and another great song is "The Great Gig In The Sky" no lyrics but not instrumental.😊 did you check the songs i suggested to you before? moving songs even you dont understand the lyrics. Lusine Kocharyan "Armenian folk song" - blind Audition . Molly Sandén "Sand" Yanni Live- Armenian Duduk is an instrumental pick the 5.56 version.
Great song from a wonderful band - I saw them live at Knebworth in 1975. (I don’t like these over-literal videos, though, which are not produced by the band.)

Beautiful...nice song also,-)
Great gig in the sky also comfortably numb both Pink Floyd
Actually, "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was written as a tribute to their former band member and dear friend, Roger Sydney Barrett. "Wish You Were Here" was written as a statement that Roger Waters made which states that he would rather be an active participant in life and go through its struggles, if need be, as opposed to sitting on the sidelines, as a spectator, and watching life go by without taking an active role in it.
The whole album was for Syd, but he was definitely the diamond they were singing about.
MrsPenPal try the song “Mother” also by Pink Floyd. Cheers beautiful lady!
You should react to their song "time" and "the great gig in the sky"
It’s a wonderful song. Roger lyrics are special you should try Mother by Pink Floyd also. And from Roger album Wait for her it’s an amazing song.
Deffo looking forward to this one.
Hi xabia lovely to see you and yes! We are shutting everything down Lols 😂
@@MrsPenPal That`s sad news, sorry to read that.
Lols oh no I don’t mean shutting down literally lols 😂 I was referring to the song... sorry for the confusion
@@MrsPenPal Phew,, thought we`d lost someone, i`m quite into reaction clips as I find them interesting and often give me new music to listen to, keep up the reactions, we love `em.
Beautiful
I like to think about my last when I hear this song. It was great while drinking and drugging. But after that is all behind me the song is even more thought provoking.
Thank you for your reaction to this gem by Pink Floyd! You should definitely check out Shine On Your Crazy Diamond, parts 1 - 5. Also, Levon by Elton John! Take care,
Awwh thanks
Love your reaction!
Awwh hi Robert. This is my first introduction to the group 💕
You can see the song pull her down, down, down into the emotions of it. One of the saddest songs ever written if you can relate. Or even if you can’t.
Pink Floyd and Tool are my all time favorite bands.... The difficulty with Pink Floyd is that they were an "album band" meaning that while their songs stand on their own pretty well, the albums as a whole tell a story, and listening to a song out of context leaves you with a lot of things you wont understand...
That makes sense Robert Thank you
I have a request.

Amazing 🔊
Even Mr. Bear was speechless
Lols 😅The bear’s name is Fluffy
I think Fluffy would like to hear Pink Floyd - The Great Gig In The Sky ...the title is a bit flaky but the song is very moving✨
What’s the name of your dog? Is that you with the dog in the picture?
That’s me and my dog, Sandy ...she’s been with me for 13 years now ...my BFF ❤️
Wow what a dog that’s so cool
Esta música se refere a um membro do Pink Floyd que morreu no início dos anos 70.
The song was written about an ex original band member syd Barrett I believe is his name who had metal health issues which forced him out of the band’
Oh wow
That teddy behind you needs a cuddle, too.
The teddy band is Fluffy. Thanks for your attention to This Video Vark
The whole album the "Wall" is a tribute to Sid Barret
By the way, you're beautiful.
My favorite song of Pink Floyd is "Shine on you crazy diamond". But it is to long for a reaction video.
So please, make a reaction to "Comfortably Numb". It is a wonderful song.
you have also great beyerdynamics Earphones...good choice
Thanks Pasquale they are my studio headphones. Have you heard my new song: ua-cam.com/video/U7hJDPOUYZo/v-deo.html
Such a beautiful song and a reactor to match. I think you might really like "Great Gig in the Sky" "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" (about the same person "wish you were here" is about : former band member Syd Barrett)
Hi J thanks
Sooo good tttoooo see this hits / resonates with you ... x . Still .
I know right?
Pink Floyd albums are somewhat unique. The songs are not meant to be listened to separately. In a way, the album is one big song. Even radio stations used to play an entire Pink Floyd album on occasion. I'm not suggesting that you do a reaction video to the entire album, but I do recommend you hear the whole thing :) This album is one of my favorites. They wrote it for their former band member, Syd Barrett. He was gifted, but he lost his sanity and had to quit -- or to put it in their words, "Shine on you crazy diamond."
is not sad is for reflexion....
You should listen to "The Great Gig in the Sky" by Pink Floyd
Thank you
Right choice😁
Hi Murat it’s been a long time! Lovely to see you! Happy New Year💕. Have you heard my new song releases dropped them recently
@@MrsPenPal Yes! 👍A good job! Have a good year too🎆🎉💖!! The Dark Side of the Moon is also a great album!
The album "Wish you were here" has the central theme of absence but in all meanings of the word.
- Emotional absence
- Physical absence
- Reminiscing about somebody
Look up "Have a cigar" for a song about emotional absence. It's a sarcastic song about getting a record deal and becoming the cash cow of the record company. But it's sung from the perspective of the executive coaxing the wanna be rockstars who's name he doesn't even remember. As one of the key lyrics is "Oh and by the way, which one's Pink?"
Wow which one is Pink? That stood out to me I can imagine the emotions the artist was feeling writing that
@@MrsPenPal It's also a theme the band brought back a couple of times: Being slaves to the record company. I'm going to name an album of theirs you should react to in full in which main topic is Alienation: "The wall"
Now this is kind of a long post but bear with me.
Now the idea for "The Wall" came when Pink Floyd were touring to support their "Animals" album. During the last show the band played, bass player Roger Waters spat at the fans and immediately after he did so went "What on earth did I do that for?"
So he got the idea in his head to build a wall between the band and the audience but he further elaborated that idea to included emotional walls too.
- Was it his mother who raised him as a single parent after his father died in the second world war ("Another brick in the wall part 1", "Mother")
- Was it the sadistic teachers who quelled his ambition to make it as an artist rather than to encourage it? ("Best days of our lives", "Another brick in the wall part2")
- Was it his wife who never understood and started to cheat on him? ("Hey you", "Another brick in the wall part three")
- Was it the record company, who even when they found him in cardiac arrest, refused to take him to a hospital, insisting on having him play the show because they didn't want to deal with the legalities of cancelling a show? ("Comfortably numb")
- Was it the fans who yell "How high?" when he tells them to jump? ("In the flesh parts one and two", "Run like hell", "Follow the worms")
OR and that's where the story ends.
- Was he himself to blame for letting all of it happen? ("The trial")
Interesting
What's the "Little Girl in His Presence" thing? Whose presence?
It’s a song about coming into God’s presence, here is the full track:ua-cam.com/video/g9ndJzMyYdg/v-deo.html

hi mis pen.😊😍🧡❤️👍 musically and melodywise the best song by them is "Shine on you crazy diamond" the full, long version. and another great song is "The Great Gig In The Sky" no lyrics but not instrumental.😊 did you check the songs i suggested to you before? moving songs even you dont understand the lyrics. Lusine Kocharyan "Armenian folk song" - blind Audition
. Molly Sandén "Sand" Yanni Live- Armenian Duduk is an instrumental pick the 5.56 version.
Isn’t it “can you tell a green FEEL, from a cold steel rail”?
Green field makes more sense, a term of endearment that a lot of Englishman use to describe the beauty of certain parts of our strange little island
@@robdean704 it’s green field definitely
@@johnsouthwell1869 thanks mate
Great song from a wonderful band - I saw them live at Knebworth in 1975. (I don’t like these over-literal videos, though, which are not produced by the band.)
over-literal... exactly.
Lots of sadness and pain in the world girl🤔
