more like 62k drive away with an underpowered lazy drivetrain which will go wrong in 6month (after 2019 Toyotas have been a basket case on reliability and dealers never fix anything but give you a run around). Good luck buying any rav4 for the price on their website. You will place orders like i have with the deposit but after a few months getting an email saying the order can't be fulfilled and the deposit being returned to your bank account. Keep in mind i still have 8 Camrys in my fleet ranging from 2019-2022.

I think it's only for Chinese market
Toyota's hybrid technology is so reliable because they started their research decades ago. Lithium-Ion batteries were developed by Japanese companies, which is why early Tesla used Panasonic batteries.
BYD is a typical Chinese knock-off. But to compete in the Chinese market with price, you have to lower yourself to Chinese quality.
I prefer PHEV to hybrid, short distance does not need gas!!! Toyota has been surpassed.

It was Exxon (yes, the oil company) that developed the lithium ion batteries, but the Japanese copied (some say stole) the technology back in the 1980s. The reason Toyota will be using BYD's PHEV system is because Toyota's own hybrid system is technologically obsolete. Technological competition in the Chinese market is intense, and Toyota had no choice but to abandon its own outdated system.
@@yo2trader539 toyota started research decades ago but hasn't really innovated on battery technology since then. In addition, the hybrid technology that toyota uses is called Atkinson cycle which literally anybody can use.
Well, they are not really the same thing. The BYD Sealion 6 is a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), whereas the Toyota RAV4 is a hybrid. PHEVs like the Sealion 6 can be charged externally, offering significant electric-only driving range and reducing fuel consumption to as low as 1.5L/100km. They also often deliver stronger power due to the dual motors.
On the other hand, the RAV4 hybrid relies more on regenerative braking and the engine to charge its battery, with a limited electric-only range. It's known for its fuel efficiency and reliability without needing to plug in.
Ultimately, if you want to maximise electric driving and enjoy more power, the BYD Sealion 6 PHEV is a great choice. For those who prefer a straightforward, efficient hybrid, the RAV4 is ideal.
At 3:40, Tung says it has Apple Wireless Carplay, but had a look at brochure on BYD's site and it says "Requires compatible device,USB connection" - but does mention Android is Wireless - anybody know if this does indeed support Apple Wireless Carplay?
It 100 per cent supports wireless Apple CarPlay or, at least, BYD made this specific point in the product presentation. The spec sheet I was given also says wired Apple CarPlay, but BYD does point out this is their first model with wireless connection.
Keep in mind, we've not tested the feature though, so check back for a full review coming soon!
When does the fully electric version come here? I never do 500km a day trips so I don’t need the petrol engine at all.
Many researches have found that people who've owned PHEV cars often forget or too lazy to plug in at home. If that is the case then what is the fuel consumption/100km on ice only ?
it's fuel consumption is very similar to Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, about 5.3L/100km for WLTC.
After I purchase the Sea Lion (to replace my 2000 RAV4 Hybrid) I may not even bother plugging it in that regularly since in HEV it can achieve (a UK or Ireland reviewer says) 5.4L/100km. Besides electricity (even at off peak) cost money.
Only China really has a large number of people driving PHEV. And in China, most people live in an apartment, it is not easy for them to charge the car everyday. But here in Australia, it is much more easy to charge if you live in a house.
funny thing is there were some drivers in China only use electric mode and charge every day, never add any fuel for the whole time, because they never need to drive for long distance. 😂
@@kexinma7294actually it is much easier to charge an EV in China than in Australia. There are so many public chargers around and it is much easier and cheaper to get one installed in the apartment complex car park.

Thanks Drive. It sounds/looks impressive. I wish BYD well. So when will the general car buying public find out about this car??? Weirdly BYD do little to no advertising so the 12 million+ Australian who watch (for example) free to air TV have little idea that BYD actually exists. How do they sell the cars they do?? It's a puzzle.

Hybrids just makes alot of sense for Australia, especially in the plug in format. I dare say there is no need to go full EV for Australia, ever, wait for Hydrogen as the ultimate next gen fuel system.
85% of Australians live in an urban area and drive on average 33km a day. A fully electric EV would be just fine for most people.
Hydrogen is 20 years away. A hydrogen fuel cell is powering an electric motor just like an EVs battery. But it does it less efficiently and the hydrogen itself is just as expensive as petrol. I don’t see the advantage of hydrogen at all.

BYD has REALLY good voice control. Just tell it you're cold or hot or what temp you want. It even isolates which person in the car is talking and just listens to them

I do not believe the fuel range of this engine as already been proved by the EU that these cars are 3 to 5 times less efficient than they claim.
Well maybe you can wait until you see some user feedback first. No reason to provide your own estimate that's probably even less reliable than the official numbers.
We have plenty of figures from other byd models with same system . Even Toyota are adopting the byd system for their new models
PHEV just doesn't make sense. The public charging facilities and home chargers are accessible enough to switch to a BEV. The PHEV is better for working with someone who can't charge at home and occasionally uses a 240V wall socket to charge the battery. Anyone who lives in a house or townhouse should buy the BEV straightforwardly. Remember that one of the greatest reasons to switch to the EV is the low maintenance cost since there is no engine or transmission. The PHEV gives you more practicality which is based on your everyday cost.

Rav4 isnnot even near BYD selion6 level, Cheap plastic interior with poison ing smell, I hated from the first second when i test driving it, old tech, lack power, small sunroof, old toyota is way better than new toyota ,byd gives you better choice and ftw
I am a current RAV4 Hybrid owner. The NVH is garbage especially the buzzy 4 CYL and shockingly bad door seals. You can hear so much of the outside, I ofter have to check the windows are shut.

@@samjohnson4014 Where did you test and on which day. On a windy day, the most slippery car will have wind noise when buffetted especially from the sides. All the car reviewers will do a proper road test in June. See what they say.
