    To those criticising the hosts - they're just reflecting the questions the vast majority of the audience would have - they aren't there to please SW fans, they're trying to make him accessible to ordinary people. And they actually get some pretty good answers out of him (e.g. the comparison with cutting favourite scenes from a movie).

      No, no, and absolutely no. The hosts were not prepared and asked insanely stupid questions, such as "there are no words?" That shows they couldn't be bothered to watch two short music videos before having him as a guest. That is a level of non-preparation beyond anything excusable.

      @@Deadlikenny The mainstream moguls like the BBC et.al don't want the likes of SW having success people like him could'nt be manipulated and used by the likes of Cowell and his ilk.So it's not surprising they messed up the playing of the clips,it was as if they were delibrately trying to ridicule his music, and remember mainstream music and tv are all bedfellows, they pander to the lowest common denominator.

    • @samuelng6441
      @samuelng6441 3 роки тому

      It's actually a very deep statement; as in it doesn't literally just mean "you're stupid for dreaming about wanting to swim in stacks of money by selling music", but rather it questions what music really is. In the sense that music is the journey which one creates it; whether others listen to it, like it or not doesn't matter but yet it matters, though the most important thing is the quality and mastery in the music's respective context. And the topic about money and fame where most people look at them as final goals or life goals without understanding that at the end of the day, money and fame are merely tools to pursue your mastery in music itself. And in Steven Wilson's case, getting more popular or viral meant that this gave him a higher volume of audience + money, which ultimately funnels and fuels his journey to make more music that's to come.
      Lastly, he could be saying that it's a futile and pointless dream to make music because who knows if you can sell it, but he still does it regardless. It's sort of that moment where you go "fine if I die and didn't manage to win, but I'm still going to do it and die trying" sort of attitude. Obviously in this case, he needs to be able to sell it to a certain extent because if not, he wouldn't be able to dedicate most of his life to music. He could probably still do it like sidelining music whilst having a day job, but what's the point really if you truly look at it?
      So all in all, that statement is a big paradox about music, money and fame's relationship itself and also a confession about how stupid everything is, but you still would want to do it.
      Maybe I'm overthinking it but that's how I look at it.

But i hear the rythm, feeling of the music, im in love. With this new album, it happen the same thing with insurgentes, which was an incredible album, along with the raven that refused to sing. Although, the song that touched to my core, was i drive the hearse (by porcupine tree), with lyrics, the albums he's made, have been amazig!!!!!

    SW says it takes him a “long time” 2 years between most of his solo albums, and he does more in 2 years than most bands can do in 4-5. Constantly evolving. The 3.5 years between to the bone and the future bites have yielded his best work yet. The album itself is only 9 tracks, but if you dig around here on UA-cam you can find the bonus and B side tracks for a whopping 24 tracks! And that’s not even including the demos and instrumentals!

I've been an occasional Porcupine Tree listener over the last 20 years and long thought that essentially Steve reminds me of what Kurt Cobain would have been like had he done a Syd Barrett/Dave Gilmour and fronted a new jagged edged art pop act starting around 1996 or so. He gives the impression that there's way more cogs turning beneath the surface and we will never get to see them all.

    there are no words hahaha. Pretty much why you can't use pieces like this to get exposure. No prep time done by these hosts.

    Isn't he wonderful? I'm a recent convert (and can't believe I haven't listened to his work in the last 30-odd years). Shame they couldn't have played the vocal part of Pariah...

    Steven was right when he thought that getting a more poppy song he would start to get recognised...

    Compared to Rush being on the Colbert Report this is like overnight success for SW!!

    This was almost cringeworthy. The woman could not care less and you could see how Steven was annoyed. Sad, really.

      yep, further more playing the super serious journalist. I mean a small laugh on her side and a tiny bit of humor would have saved it.

    The researcher was probably an infant when PT were playing Fear of a Blank Planet so got brought up on a diet of BieberLite. Whoa! Shoes! He's changed...see what success does for you....footwear.

    Dammit as much as I am happy for him to get some exposure and stuff..these interviewers or morning show hosts really did no preparation beforehand..I mean seriously..I am certain they know the latest pants *insert random famous star* wore..but really..do your jobs more professionally..and I have to agree with what a horrible choice of song snippet they chose..It makes so much sense in the song and it's a beautiful piece..but it's like cutting Wish you were here's intro or just playing the solo part..But again..if swimming through a sea of unprepared hosts and shallow tv shows is gonna give Steven a more wide exposure..That's a sacrifice he'll have to take...and we as his fans to endure through and wish for more full live performances to satisfy our individual urges.
