I think people are missing the point with this product, no one is saying this is a better alternative to an actual firearm, no one is saying that in every situation that it’s efficacy would be 100%. It would be up to the users discretion as to when the best time to use it would be. But this is an effective non lethal deterrence weapon. There are people who have used this for home defense successfully, Bounty hunters successfully use them in their line of work. This weapon is also appealing to those who are gun enthusiasts in blue states where gun laws and self defense laws are constantly being eroded and the ability to use lethal force to defend yourself and your family is basically non existent.

Yes. Of course its not as good as a gun but its better than nothing. Its a little protection without all of the reaponsibility of a real firearm. Hopefully we never need either.

Exactly, if someone's high off pcp, shoot em in the eyes if the pain from the rounds are ineffective. Atleast they cant see you. All depends on how you use it. I bet none of these ppl taking shit would let someone shoot em with the devastator rounds. It's called non lethal for a reason.

A lot of experienced street cops would tell you that attackers high on drugs don't care for pain as they don't even know it's there. When they at their most dangerous state, more out of control and more prone to kill someone, tickle-tickle will probably fail. It's probably very painful for people not under the effect of drugs but for self defense, i wouldn't consider.
It's a trend of an ineffective answer that, intentionally or not, helps to sugarcoat gun bans, if you think about it.

Even in a stand for ground state, the robber may be able to sue you for shooting him with a less lethal weapon. And the odds are he may win especially if you hurt or mame them in some way. The judge in the case may go in their favor just because of the weapon choice. They may reason that you didn't fear for life since you didn't just drop the intruder with an actual gun. And so then used unnecessary force in the altercation. Stupid I know. A guy breaks in (obviously in the wrong you'd think and should be grateful you chose a less lethal approach) and you have to potentially pay his medical and possibly more. It's not just the energy, it is energy divided by surface area. A 5 Joule impact using a knife will do more damage than a 10 Joule impact with an impact tool. A .50 cal projectile at 11 Joules would likely not penetrate skin but a .177 cal projectile at 11 Joules could very well prove fatal if it hits a compromised area.

Calibre means much, much less in terms of stopping power than velocity - it isn't the size of the round but the hydrostatic shock that puts you down on the spot. I've no doubt a sharp round from something like this would hurt (assuming it doesn't tumble, which it likely will) but 'hurt' is only a factor when you're sat with your mates shooting each other for fun, when you're full of adrenaline you won't feel a thing. Anyone who's ever been in a fight knows that.
Case in point, I was stabbed four times during a fight in my early twenties and I didn't even know about it until five or ten minutes after the fact when the adrenaline had worn off. I'm not a tough guy by any means, adrenaline just does that.

UK falls into this bracket. You can own a shotgun legally but never use it as a means of self defence without going down for manslaughter as a minimum. These are actually sold in the UK at 11 joules but it’s a grey area. They are legal with paintballs but if you used them against someone with rubber bullets or the devastation rounds it would be treated like a firearm from what I’ve read. It would however be accepted as home defence in theory if you opted for the 6 joule version with rubber balls etc.

Not that a 1911 isnt a fine firearm and the .45 ACP isnt also a fine round, but a lot of people have this old school belief that 9mm is a "useless" round that doesnt pack enough of a punch, but id strongly encourage you to reconsider that notion. Modern 9mm hollow points fired from a modern handgun can be just as effective if not more effective than a .45 ACP, theres been tons of ballistics studies showing that good 9mm hollow points fired from a modern platform has EXCELLENT stopping power and devastation within the body cavity. The idea of 9mm not having enough stopping power is simply a thing of the past, and the extra velocity makes a big difference(plus you dont have to worry about overpenetration despite the increased velocity when using hollow points which is nice).

Lethal weapons can stop a fight before it even starts. But if the criminal decides to push the issue, they end up dead. Dead people never sue. They’re dead. It’s hard for the family to sue you as well, considering their family member died during the commission of a criminal act. You just end up with a dead criminal and everyone moves on with their lives. In some states, if the dead criminal had partners and didn’t act alone, the partners get charged with a murder even though they weren’t the ones that killed their friend. Criminal acts that result in a death end up being the responsibility of the perpetrators.

My point: ALWAYS use lethal means for your self defense. Always! By attempting to commit a violent crime against you, the criminal has already demonstrated they do not care about your life. These were initially intended as pepperball launchers. Used as such, they can be quite effective. Loading them with steel balls, pointed rounds, etc, and modifying them to higher powers in an attempt to weakly simulate a firearm and thus work around firearm laws is going to get YOU in a world of hurt if you ever use it that way on a perp. Fill it with pepperballs and/or nylon balls, leave it stock, and get a real firearm for home defense. Umarex makes several varieties of pepperball shotguns that can fire from 2 to 16/18 pepperballs in seconds. If your perps are still advancing after that, the AR or shotgun or etc is/was needed.

Several issues I see here. Bulky, loading process takes too long. May be a fun toy. Beyond that it’s impractical in a self defense scenario. If you’re going to use a tool that shoots a projectile you might as well get the real thing.

I ordered 11 joule thru Amazon.. Pyramid Air sent me a marker with the part no. shipped..
I check the part No. on Pyramid Air and it comes up $99.00 7.5 joule HDR 50. ?
A 10% coupon comes from MCS?
No sticker on box mentioned 11 joule upgrade. Nor in the box.
I spent $180.00 to Amazon. I don't believe this is the 11 joule.
If you send anything upgraded, it should have paperwork saying such.

I have it. It goes through metal cans like a bullet. Big impact hole and bigger exit hole.
I have only shot rubber rounds, because steel ones are expensive. I have those just for a real situation. But what they don't mention is that it makes a real loud noise, much like a small fire gun.
The gas tank can only work for two magazines, 12 rounds. In the third one the power goes off, but 12 shots are useful for self defense. I suggest attaching a lamp/laser device to improve accuracy in stress situations.
I tried a holographic sight but it's not convenient. So I attached it to the HDX shotgun, which worked well with. Really good stuff and a good option for self defense.
