    Not gonna judge the guys abilities. He's got great technique and skills. Some I found interesting. Some I've heard a billion times. Here's the problem. The only people who wanna hear this stuff are guitar players. And only a minority of players overall will find it interesting. The average music listener could care less. Let alone appreciate the hours spent to acquire those skill I've always been fascinated by players like this and quite frankly a lot of the "shredders" I know. We all started playing because we liked, no... loved music. Somewhere along the line though players get lost in the technical side and ultimately become jaded against the very music which inspired them to play in the first place. Once lost they lose all concept of what music should be. In my opinion music has to be listenable and secondly it should convey or trigger emotions be they good or bad or in between. This guys good but the only people who care are not the ones who are gonna be there for all his concerts, hell they might not even buy his album. Songwriting first, this stuff last.

      killW1266 John5 is way more than just a "shredder". The guy is a master of not only shred but country, blues, classical, jazz, you name it. He is one the the most well rounded axe men out there. He can easily go up and play a set with Manson or Rob Zombie then play a set with a country/blues band. I hear what you're saying about shredding. I like to shred. I don't just shred. But if Im looking to express a feeling of anger or fury there's nothing better than shredding all the way up the next alt picking everything. John5 is seriously amazing at guitar. He can literally play anything.

      Well, even tho J5 was a member of MM and is the current guitar player of RZ (which are both quite popular metalbands) and has worked with dozens of legendary artists his own music is kinda niche, but then again he said in a interview once that the solomusic he makes is for himself mostly, thus people who love guitarplay.

      @calebblevins2881 7 років тому +1

      MANS4ON Dude it's a telecaster that cost easily over a grand, and considering it's custom made. Also thousands of dollars in amps and pedals goes far, without good shit, you wouldn't sound like that all. He's not terrible, but definetly not the best.

      have you seen his pedal board? it's so sad, "a child could use it".

    • @dadiopimp
      @dadiopimp 7 років тому +3

      Alister Shade you dont need a lot of pedals but you need decent qualty equipment. Any real guitarist knows playing on low end squiers and a shitty 20 watt combo amp hinders you. Sure a 5000 dollar tube amp and a 2000 dollar fender doesnt make you better at guitar but it sure as hell makes you sound better if you can already play well. I think decent equipment is a necessity in being a good musician. Practice all you want read as much theory as you can but your 200 dollar squier will sound like garbage with your "high quality" playing.
      Ps: by decent equipment im talking about the mid price range (600-1000) which is definitely affordable if youre dedicated and employed.

    • @scootterpootter
      @scootterpootter 7 років тому +1

      John doesn't use a lot of pedals, he uses maybe three at his shows, and I think one of them is turned off. I use more pedals than he does, but he gets the effects that he wants from the way he plays and his technique. In this video, it sounds like he may be using a Whammy pedal, but nothing more, other than maybe an overdrive/distortion.
      As far as decent equipment goes, a master guitarist can polish a turd and make it shine. I was fortunate enough to see Jeff Healey play at an outdoor venue with Johnny Winter. The stage was just a couple of steps, up onto a cement 'stage". and I was able to stand a few feet from Jeff as he ripped through his incredible show. He was using a VHT Bulldog amp and maybe a Bogner the time, which are thousands of dollars each, but for his guitar he used 3 Squier Strats that night. A white one, a black one, and I think there was a sunburst one that sat on a stand as a backup. He sounded absolutely incredible!! His tone was some of the best that I've ever heard, right up there close to the way Robin Trower sounds. Jeff walked all over the stage and I thought for sure that he was going to walk into me and off the stage. lol (Jeff was blind for anyone who doesn't know who he was. He was in the movie Roadhouse) He dropped the black guitar right in front of me during a really ripping song that he was doing. It had a tremelo system and he was stepping on it, going crazy . When he picked it back up, it was still in tune and I felt sorry for that guitar. lol So his cheapo Squier guitars sounded great, but it was because of the hand of the player.
      After that, i started noticing a lot of metal bands using Epiphone guitars to get their sound. I watched and interview with someone, maybe one of the guys from Exodus or Heathen, who said that using a $300 Epiphone gave them the metal sound that the Gibson version would not do, without changing the electronics.

      Alexis Chemo five I don't think you can do that with the Boss CH-1. I would say it is a delay pedal but don't know which one he is using though. The sound is similar to that of the Carbon Copy from MXR.

      Alexis Chemo five Yes, he has been playing with just those 3 boss pedals and a wah, but check the videos from his recent Monsters and Creatures concerts. He uses that effect as an intro to Feisty Cadavers. It's not very clear, but you can see him cranking a red pedal up and down. I guess he changes his pedal board a bit for this kind of shows.

      @@edwardkeyz6112 No, si te fijas en el clavijero pone Fender, no Squire. El modelo que vende Squire de John5 es el modelo comercial. Porque obviamente sus guitarras originales no cuestan 400 dolares como la Squire. Además el modelo de Squire no tiene el killswitch

    when someone like buckethead plays it's like he's speaking through his instrument, whenever john 5 plays it's like he's saying "hey i'm playing random sh*t really fast, look at me I r good at guitarzzz!"... I dunno, it just seems like there's no soul in his music like the aforementioned buckethead, jimi hendrix, eric clapton, etc.... those guys could tell an entire story just through their guitars, this guy just gets lots of tattoo's, bleaches his hair and wants people to notice him

      Job bob. Exactly. When I listen to buckethead (especially the mellow stuff like "electric tears") I can actually see a story. images start to form, stories told through guitar. Buckethead isn't human.

      thanks for the laugh i really needed it, Buckethead wears a KFC bucket on his head a heap of makeup and usually a one-piece white outfit. and you are bagging out john for wearing outfits. please name one of the three bands he contributes to as side projects and bands he has played with not just the obvious. look into his huge variety of work and styles don't judge him on a shredding video made for a magazine

      Putting Buckethead in the same category as Hendrix and Clapton is quite a stretch!

    • @GreatMindzDrinkAlike
      @GreatMindzDrinkAlike 7 років тому

      Buckethead is in no less of a league the Hendrix. Hendrix was an originator tho, and thus a legend. Buckethead is one of the most absolutely talented prolific guitarists to ever pick up a guitar, and a legend in his own right, just less known. He is a fucking master. Jon Bob I agree with you 90% except this is just john 5 fuckin around, and hes pretty well rounded guitarist but hes no buckethead lol.

    • @megamania501
      @megamania501 7 років тому

      Buckethead is phenomenal at guitar technique and his tone is to die for. But to say he is on par with Hendrix is laughable. Buckethead is a guitar player's legend and that's it. He never turned the music world upside down with his playing like Hendrix did. A good guitar player is more than technique. If I were to create a band that was to write originals I'd take John Frusciante over Buckethead to be the guitar player despite Buckethead being able to run circles over Frusciante in the technique department. My philosophy is a good song can have a crappy guitar solo and still be a good song, but a crappy song with a good guitar solo is still a crappy song. Buckethead needs to play something to put himself on the map. Slash had his "Sweet Child of Mine" intro riff which was catchy enough to be GnR's biggest hit. John Frusciante was creative enough to come up with quite a few riffs, intros, and songs that put the RHCPs on the top. I was stuck on guitar player technique for years...listening to nothing but Vai, Johnson, Satriani, Bettencourt, Malmsteen, Gilbert, Reb Beach. I tell you, that obsession only lasts a few years...you will always come back to the music itself. From what I have heard, Buckethead doesn't stand out from any shredders that came before him, all that shredding stuff sounds the same after years of listening/studying it.
