so ready for Seattle-Farmer's-Market Kath! a new era
with your roommate theory - honestly i think it's true, the decision to get roommates for most people is just financial necessity. so people want to live their own independent lives in a shared space
Yeah I think that was too glossed over
@@kayleighkearnan I think I understand that she was just trying to explain the options she was weighing (and for her money isn't really an issue). But yeah most people deciding between living alone and roommates are probably just thinking about the money lol. Maybe any other consideration is secondary
chey and katherout!!! the conversations!!! farmers markets and baking wow wishing you all the best
I can’t wait for the apartment hunting and day in your life videos. Ooh, I’m so excited to be vicariously living thru you 😁
We welcome you!! Hope to see you around the city!!!
I just moved from Seattle to the Bay! This was also me scratching an itch of moving somewhere after college. You really summarized how I felt about moving to the Bay. Good luck on your move!! You got this! I’d love to swap day trip ideas!
down the line, i would love to see you make a video about how ways you tried to make new friends in seattle and how well they worked! i feel like that's always the struggle as you move into your mid-twenties
The Seattle freeze is less of thing than it used to be, we’re def more granola than grunge now (kinda breaks my lil grunge heart but we love granola too ) and like half the people I meet now are from the Bay Area. Girl, you are gonna be fine! Also very impressed with your ability to find a place AT ALL! housing is real Grimm over here. Nothing like empty, completely unaffordable luxury apartments towering over encampments 😌
The Seattle freeze is definitely a myth at this point. There are so many social events and people moving to the city that it would be a real challenge not to make friends.
Grimm 👀
@@tysoncodes I am from Arizona moving to the area soon. Everyone I have met has been way friendlier than any of the folks that I have met in Phoenix.
@Isa Lewis Moving to Seattle from SoCal in the autumn! Hoping that rent goes down around then and that more places open up. Have been able to see some places that I can afford, but maybe I'm still looking a bit early haha
It depends, living in or near the city it is a lot easier to socialise. I lived south of Seattle for about 15 years before moving overseas to New Zealand and I could say the social scene was dead and depressing. People I met in school and community college acted as if we were strangers in public. Plans to meet up always fell through unless I constantly reminded someone of a casual coffee meetup.
I could probably count more friends I've made in NZ over a few years than the decade and a half I lived near Seattle.
Yay you posted! Ugh sooooo cannot wait for your Seattle videos. I live vicariously through you. Xoxo
yay can't wait for seattle vlogs!!! I went there about 4 yrs ago and I loved it!
I just visited Seattle for the first time last month and I’m so excited for you to start this new chapter there! I have a friend that just moved there for work and she’s also looking to make new friends so you’ve got 1 california native not in the freeze!
Found this video because I was considering moving to San Francisco but when I tell you your motivation for moving literally described me!! “the itch” of moving - idea of the renewing feeling of moving ! All of it !
If anyone can make friends in a new situation, it's you!!!! Best of luck! You've got this and congrats on the move!
I have now lived in my third place, Austin, for a decade. Wouldn't change it for the world. Can't wait to see how Seattle goes for you!!
I actually find that people are friendlier in Seattle than in the Bay Area. I feel like there is more of a sense of community.
Great video. I like what you said about not wanting Seattle to be a question mark later in life.
Same! I have family who have been in Seattle since the 60s. I’m from Chicago. Every time I visit Seattle I feel that we are kindred spirits ✨
so excited to see your Seattle content! 🙌🏻
Omg you explained the modern roommate situation so well… ive enjoyed having people around but right now I can’t wait to live alone again
What you said about living situations, I 100% agree! I'm glad I'm not the only 20 something that wants to live in a co-op in a city.
As a greater Seattle area native living in Seattle now, the Seattle Freeze hit me hard. So be prepared for it to hit harder than you might expect, because people are so damn passive here (they literally won’t reach out to you to hang out unless you nag them like crazy) and they get really comfortable with their friend group. However, I think it’s something to get used to and people are still nice despite the passiveness. If you ever are wanting someone to be with or talk to as you navigate Seattle, don’t hesitate to reach out to me!
I agree with you its a very freeing feeling moving to a different location and kind of starting over, me and my fiancé moved across the country to LA where we knew no one. I think it was the right move for us both, it pushed us both to get out of our conform zones.
@OmegaGreed - what part of LA did you move to and would you recommend it? -- I'm asking because I'm itching to leave NYC in about 6 months, but I've heard mixed reviews about life in LA. How's your experience so far?
Just moved here in early July from San Francisco. It's great to be back, this time to live! I'll see ya around.
Your eyebrows look amazing!
I love Seattle, welcome!! Funnily enough, moving from Seattle to SF soon.
This video is giving me life and the push I need to uproot and move somewhere new. Keep up the lively and inspiring vids girl!
My favorite city I have visited as a tourist is definitely Lyon, France, it is the most amazing city for people in their 20's! It's super affordable, has a great nightlife, so much terrain to explore and is within two hours of 3 other major destination spots.
I'm finally moving up to Seattle next weekend (also coming from the Bay Area)! I've postponed this move so many times bc of COVID but I'm so excited to explore!
Oh man, you could have been speaking my own thoughts. Just moved here from Denver on Monday and feeling pretty good about it so far :)
I'm 27 and about to move to Seattle and am also scared of the Seattle freeze! Literally moving tomorrow so I wish both you and I luck! 😂💕
Love these explanations! I'm moving from Glasgow to Bristol in the UK and I really agree with you, I've grown up here but something just didn't 'click', whereas when I visit Bristol I just feel like it seems like my kind of place.
I've lived in the Seattle area my whole life, and tbh the Seattle freeze is definitely a thing but I'm also super introverted so I know I also contribute to that haha. But Meetup groups are a good place to start, I'm sure there's some decent outdoors/hiking events happening. I've gone on a handful of meetup events, and they've been fun and exposed me to new people and things to do.
Check out Tacoma too when you get to washington. Definitely got that grunge of Seattle but also a collection of rad people. Tons of coffeeshops to hit up, comedy nights, the elks lodge, lots of parks, and of course more farmers markets :)
Love the hair color!😍
I'm getting ready to move to Seattle for my first job out of college! I'm from the East Coast and went to school in the Midwest so I haven't really explored the West Coast in general so I'm nervous yet excited at the same time :)
I think living with roommates does unburden you of some labour since you usually take turns to clean the bathroom/kitchen/taking out trash etc. And the big plus vs living alone is the social aspect, you will never feel alone. Even if its just bumping into someone in the kitchen and saying hi that can have a huge impact on mental health as well to be around people.
Great video! For me, that relocation itch never goes away. Idk if it’s not yet finding “home,” or just a love of new experiences (or both), but I’ve gone from Minneapolis to Copenhagen to Seattle to Knoxville to LA, and now have that itch again 😂😅
so exciting! I would say to try not to psych yourself out too much about the infamous "Freeze" - it's true that a lot of Seattlites are introverted but, like any city, there's a huge diversity of all kinds of people, so you'll definitely be able to find friends!
I'm gonna tune in. I hope you take your filming around Seattle. I'd like to learn more about what it's like to live day to day there.
What a coincidence, I went to San Fo for a vacation to check the Tech companies but I live here in Seattle. Good luck on your move 😉
Your roommate description! I'm in my 6th year of living in a student dorm with a shared kitchen. In the beginning I did really enjoy sharing the kitchen/ living room, even though we didn't cook together that often, but now I'm starting to look forward to living on my own. I will graduate in June, but I will probably have to live with my parents for a while before I can get my own apartment.
Lisbon, Portugal !! (best city I’ve been a tourist in). and your roommate theory gave words to a feeling I’ve had for so long. thanks for always having the perfect thing to say
Wooo welcome to Seattle, happy to have ya here!
Welcome to Seattle. I've lived in the Bay Area and East coast and have been in Seattle for 5 years and this is my favorite city. I can't live without city amenities and nature around me at the same time. The fact that I can go kayaking right after work or find a hiking trail not very far--what a life. I recommend visiting Bellingham, the San Juan Islands (I love Orcas Island), Bainbridge Island...
Totally here for the woowoo and also completely agree that some places just call you and feel right without any "logical" explanation.
So proud of you! Congrats and excited to see the upcoming future videos.
note: Eventbrite could be a good place to meet new people and make friends. I saw one group that goes out hiking and whatnot!
The Seattle Freeze is real, but the city is like half transplants now. You'll find friends. It is very expensive and super crunchy though so that part is as advertised
it's very expensive, but a 15% discount to her
Washington State native, and I live across the bay in Bremerton to combat the prices. So much cheaper than Seattle and anything east, and it's a beautiful and quiet village that's only a ferry ride away from the city center. Ended up buying a home here after saving up for 10+ years from being a waitress to head of my department. Originally from Kennewick so not sure if that sort of counts as a transplant too, lol.
I just wanted to say that the point you made about roommate arrangements that most people find themselves in these days REALLY resonated with me! You've literally verbalized something that I've been feeling viscerally but didn't know how to articulate in a coherent way. Personally, I've always gravitated toward living on my own whenever I could afford it, and I think the independence it brings is worth the burden of having to figure everything out by yourself.
i wish you all the best on your new chapter in seattle!
also, sorry if you have been hearing this a lot, but you look so much like the lovely alexandra breckenridge from the show virgin river! 😊
Hell yeah!
I logged onto UA-cam at the PERFECT moment ❤️ 💛
Omg I am moving to Seattle next year! So excited to see some Seattle content
You should go to Diablo lake, it’s so beautiful and u should go when it’s warm out for sure and paddle board
I went to Seattle last month and it was lovely. I really love Pike Place Market
Ur so good!!!
tbh the roommate theory makes so much sense
Wellbutrin gang rise up 😫🤝
Will you link up with Monica church since you already had a video with Shelby in the past? Best of luck with the move Katherine!
I love that we will potentially get Monica Church x Katherine collaborations with your Seattle move.
Currently planning a big move out of my hometown of Seattle, and your response to "why are you moving" resonated so much! Also, in my experience, the Seattle freeze is definitely a thing. We are generally just a passive aggressive, granola, introverted group out here. The most outgoing people are typically the transplants, though there are plenty so you're sure to meet some great people!
I am from Arizona and I have not felt the “freeze” at all. Even from the locals, maybe I just got lucky but everyone I have met has been way friendlier than most people in Phoenix.
Kath your skin looks amazing
I’m obsessed with your natural eyebrows. You’re such a pretty girl! Hope to bump into you in SEA! I’m a California girl moving there too. Manifesting it…
i'm new to the seattle area (from further north in the state) too- hopefully we can both get thru the seattle freeze bc i am DESPERATE to make some friends
0:50 - oooh, rainbow 🌈 crosswalk at 10th & Pike? Cool! That’s new since I lived there. Neat!
P.S. (Much later, revisiting this apparently-unfinished video after chatting with you via a certain autonomous assembly) 13:24/14:04 - oh my goodness, yes, you're explaining it well, and that's (unfortunately) totally my current reality! I'm with you on the either-alone-or-full-commune thinking!
totally agree with what you're saying about roommates! I live in a co-op and have for the past 4 ish years and wouldn't want it any other way
I 1000% agree with you on the living alone vs. living in a co-op situation. Living with roommates, even if they are your best friend (I did live with my best friend for almost 2 years and it almost ruined our friendship), just sucks. The only situation in which it sucks less is if your roommate is never home bc they are out of town / has a partner / socializes a lot. Unfortunately not everyone can afford to live alone in SF.
I'm born and raised Seattle and still live here!! I won't freeze ya out, I love to make new friends! :)
You should download Bumble and use the BFF feature!! I moved across the country to grad school in the middle of 2020 and met the most amazing people on there (some i now live with!)
Can’t wait to see updates of your move to Seattle!! I just moved to a new city where I knew just a few people and am on the same journey of friend making.
My favourite city I was a tourist in was Yellowknife, NWT, Canada
Honestly the weather here in seattle has been so nice all summer I forget how dreary the rest of the year is. Getting a sun lamp so blast your face with light in the mornings to keep ur circadian rhythms going is not a bad idea. And as far as the freeze goes, I’m pretty introverted but my boyfriend is VERY extroverted and so we end up striking conversations with strangers allll the time at parks and stuff and people are pretty friendly if you initiate. (Usually people out with their dogs and I play with the dog while my boyfriend chats with the person tbh)
I live with 6 people total and we kinda have the best of both worlds between a co-op and living by yourself. Everyone has their own room and space but we collectively assign chores/house labor and cook for each other. Everyone is like-minded in that we enjoy a clean and tidy house so we haven't had to worry about chores too much. People actually do more than their assigned chores each week because we like having a clean space :-) When we cook we will see if we can combine different ingredients from each other's pantry to make something yummy. When someone makes a big batch of pasta or big dinner, we let everyone get a serving if they want some. I feel so lucky I found roommates I can do this with because it made living through the pandemic much more pleasant
i got pals in pdx if you need day trip suggestions! my fave tourist city recently I think was San Antonio! I thought the riverwalk was gorg and the downtown area was really cute! But I was on a bowl game trip so mayb I'm biased
Such a subtle flex to know where all the b-roll was filmed
Ayyyye fellow Seattle gals give this a like 🙌🏼 can’t wait to welcome you to the PNW. I love it here and think you will too!!
Hi I’m nick nice to meet you I’ve been following your blog for a while
Welcome!!! I live in the Queen Anne neighborhood. You’re gonna love it here.
Tacoma 25 miles south and is a lot cheaper but rates are going up but anywhere out of the metro area is cheap .
I’m moving back to the Bay Area after living away during the entirety of the pandemic and goddamit I’m scared. This video kind of helped relieve that hahaha
I did literally the opposite. Born and raised in Seattle, moved to SF for something new. I don’t know how long I’ll be here, or where I’ll go next, but I think I’d still like to set up roots in the PNW. Maybe Vancouver BC
I love that for you, let's fucking GO.
Well i live in Tacoma half an hour away i can show you two really cool farmer markets
JUST flew home (to Phx 🥵) from a week in Seattle this morning. We might have the chance to relocate come next summer and it’s tough to enjoy life here when my heart is so set on Seattle. You’re right, I feel the energy there too. That being said, I’m SO HERE for your Seattle content and will live loyally, vicariously through your experiences 😁 especially the housing situation! I’m zillowing constantly and it’s wild. You’re a joy to watch, happy to see your channel grow!
Hey, I’m from Phoenix too! My boyfriend and I hope to be living in Washington. I can’t take the depressing summers anymore lol
@@nicolea8205 YES. I swear I get “reverse seasonal depression”. I know the consistent gloom would probably wear on me eventually, but people don’t seem to get that the seven months of 100*+ does too. My grass is greener brain tells me I would rather have the rain 😅
Phoenix has a pretty stellar cost of living/economic opportunity ratio, but if your life isn’t all about making money to buy bigger cars/houses I think there are much better places to be. Sweet Seattle dreams to both of us 😁
I think one moves to the Pacific NW because they like the outdoors. it is not fancy like CA or big like Texas. Some people had to move for work but if they are not outdoorsy they move to Austin TX or AZ pretty quick. You like hiking, and you like reading, you will do fine. :-)
Ballard Seafood Fest is next Month
What do u do for a living? I'm from a small backwater town in California but I want to move to san francisco. Just the rent is so expensive I don't know what job will allow me to live relatively comfortably
I just moved down to the south bay area from Seattle a few months ago. My advice: take vitamin D daily and enjoy the fresh local seafood as much as you can. There is a gentle rain a lot of days (especially Nov-Dec, but not July-Oct), but usually there is a nice part of each day, so be sure to get out enjoy that. Sounds like you are really going to enjoy the bus system that Seattle has. Seattle is a great place for introverts. As an extrovert you are going to want to find a larger community to join, so you don't burn out a small circle of introverts with your awesomeness.
I’ve been in Seattle 10 years… the freeze, in my experience, is a myth locals made up and now people use as an excuse! You’ll eventually learn that most of the people you meet are transplants and want a friend as much as you need one. I LOVE Seattle, Hope you do too! ❤️
I was just discussing this topic with a friend. I ended up choosing the California Central Valley because 17 years ago, my fiancé wanted to get out of Hollywood and I was living in LA county. Affordability was the key reason. We now have 2 teens in high school and even though we’ve lived here in the same home we bought new 17 years ago, it still doesn’t feel like home at least to me. I still feel like I’m visiting even though my mom grew up here in Kern County and all of my cousins live here. I don’t know if this Place will ever feel like home but I am comfortable and I have friends here and I am involved in the community. My heart still lives back in Fullerton where I attended college. It’s interesting how we make a life in one place or several places and before we know it, so much life has passed, we are left wondering if this was the life we were meant to live in this place that we chose.I can also say, your environment changes your perspective, I am much more conservative now and appreciate blue collar work much more than I ever did in LA.
If you're young, curious and unencumbered, explore! Go for it!
Nothing ventured, nothing gained Katherine! This is the perfect time of your life to try out something new. I have two twenty somethings and it will be very hard for your generation to buy a home in the Bay Area. I think that Seattle is similar to the bay and will hopefully be more affordable than here. Good luck Katherine!
Not me having a late question, but my question: is why not Portland?
love to visit but it’s never really clicked for me as a place i’d wanna live! dunno why!
I’m thinking of moving to Seattle also! I’ve only been twice but both times I went I didn’t want to go back home and it was very easy for me to imagine living there. I can’t wait for the next few videos you have planned since those could be very helpful for me! I definitely related to every answer you gave in this video, I just graduated college in May and I’m figuring out what I want to do with my life, but the only thing I know for sure is that I want to set up a new life in Seattle. I hope you really enjoy your time there, and maybe we’ll bump into each other in the future 😂
proud of you mami! say hi to the big needle for me!
I’m going to visit Portland and Seattle this upcoming week with my boyfriend. We are scouting the area to hopefully move to either of these cities in the future (we are both already leaning towards Seattle but we will see!). I’ve visited once before a few years ago and he has never been. I’m super excited 🥰
I have lived in Seattle. It’s a very artsy city. You will love it and you will hate it there. I still have fond memories exploring its nooks and crannies with friends in the rain. To me Seattle is beautiful but transient. Everybody is trying to find themselves there so they don’t stick to the same thing for very long and this is why it’s hard to make friends. Seattle is the cool person you date who teaches you about sailing and backpacking and craft cider and yoga and board game cafes and indie book shops but in the end you hate them because they’re not really into you.
From always sunny to its mostly rains
can you do a video on what Wellbutrin feel like to you?
Im new to seattle too, ive found that it’s tough to make friends. Meetups help, but you genuinely have to be into the hobby or else all the coversations putter out.
What about your youtube channel? Couldnt you leverage it to meet tons of people?
Gloomy, rainy environments always made me happy, and i feel like i am told i am supposed to like sun, but i dont...it just annoys me.
OMG welcome to Seattle!! hit me up if you need any recommendations for seattle!!
I visited a friend in Singapore a few years ago and I loved it so much! Would absolutely move there if I could
