    Just a little more info for anyone who is having issues with their LS, especially Gen 1 (gen 1 is before 2003):
    CHECK YOUR COILS. When they go bad they cause all sorts of weird issues and its very common in these cars.
    If there is any oil on the rubber boot when you pull the coil off of the spark plug, you need new valve cover gaskets. Make sure you replace ALL the plugs AND COILS when you replace the valve cover gaskets (take a look at your injectors while your at it, clean or replace any that look bad). Gaskets+coils+plugs will cost around $500 if you do it yourself, it isn't that difficult if you take your time and have the tools.
    First thing to do is take your car up to Oreilly's or AutoZone and have it scanned, if it says a few of your cylinders are misfiring or banks running lean, good chance your coils are shot. If not, have your battery tested, replace your fuel & air filter, clean your MAF sensor, and check your vacuum lines for cracks or leaks - these the cheap things that you can eliminate first without paying a mechanic. Also wouldn't hurt to add some injector cleaner to your gas tank.
    There are some good youtube videos showing how to do most of this stuff, for anything else you should check out @t, they have an entire forum dedicated to the Lincoln LS and people willing to help that know these cars up and down.
    Ive had my LS for 7 years and replaced the valve cover gaskets once and all of the coils twice, along with a long list of other stuff. Been through it all and understand these cars can be a real pain to diagnose but hope this helps someone.

    I love these cars. I've heard alot of horror stories. But, like any car, take care of it and it'll take care of you. ....I own a 2002 Lincoln LS V8. 229k miles and counting!

      Welcome fellow Lincoln LS owner!!! They are pretty underrated for the style and luxury they offer (especially the 2003-2006 Gen 2 models). Long as Good premium fuel is used and you don't abuse it too much its quite dependable.

      hybrid32494 Yep, I agree. I burn nothing but premium, and use fully synthetic oil. ....Although, I I'm guilty of racing here and there. Lol

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 років тому +2

      The only thing I have not used in mine was full synthetic. I have actually always taken it to the local Ford/Lincoln Dealer for oil service. So far no issues and motor does not have any burnt oil residue or build up, Im quite sure they are just using regular motor oil, but seems to be fine.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 років тому +2

      pretty high miles. 147000 at this point. Although I purchased the car with 134000 back in 2009. So yes I actually put on very few miles in the time of my ownership. Needless to say when I bought it with the extremely high miles for 5 years it was very cheap and in superb condition. Only issue was one of the air vents for the AC seat was disconnected.

    I own a 2002 Lincoln LS 3.9l v8. Only has 88,000 miles... But sat about a year without moving. After I purchased it, the cooling issues started... And like you said, it was pretty much EVERY plastic component breaking. Also did all 8 plugs and coil packs, radiator, thermostat and housing, multiple manifolds, cooling fan/wheel/and shroud, and fan fluid cooler (engine has a hydraulic fan, pump driven by serpentine belt). Oh yeah, did belt too. She's driving like a charm now. Take care of it and it'll take care of you.

    I've had most of the same problems. Here is how I handled them: 1-The coils are not a big deal if you or you know someone with the proper tools. I buy the coils at a parts store (O'Reilly in my area) for about $45.00. If you have an OBDC reader it will tell you which coil is bad. The numbers go 1 to 8. 1 is top driver side down to 4, 5 is top passenger side down to 8. Remove all the stuff on top of engine to access the coils, unbolt it disconnect the connector, use a spark plug puller to remove old spark plug then replace with new spark plug and new coil.
    2-Cooling system leak was caused by cracks in the coolant reservoir. Purchased a new reservoir at Auto Zone for about $75, took to a regular mechanic to swap out.

    Great summary. I have a 2006 LS Sport and have replaced the coils and plugs x 2, all of the hoses and plastic thermostat case and the belts x 1 and had a complete transmission rebuild. I have not experienced the other 3 problems that you have experienced. I will be on the lookout for the engine coolant bi-valve and will replace it on my next engine coolant flush in 12 months. Appreciate the time you spent to put this together.

      Thanks for the comment and watching!!! Recently noticed water in the trunk of mine too, Seems to be leaking through the sunroof (weird b/c theres no water inside the cabin and most of the roof is sealed). Put a rubber mat on the roof and now seems fine. (so def leaking from the sunroof towards the trunk somehow. )

    • @FLPLASTICSURG1
      @FLPLASTICSURG1 6 років тому +1

      Recommend that you bring your LS to a body shop to sort out the sun roof leak. I am worried that the water in your trunk will lead to an electrical short that will necessitate the replacement of wiring harnesses.

      SOMEONE HELP MEEEE!!!! Lol ok...so I'm sitting in my 03 LS today at work, smokin a cig and I notice my dome lights are like, flashing, blinking...whatever...it was like my car was having a little dance party that I wasnt invited to...its never done that b4 so I went and grabbed my keys, tried starting it and when I turned the key forward all my gauges (all of them, temp, rpms, speedometer and fuel) flew to the max position...then I went to crank the engine and all I got was RAPID clicks....turned the key back, let it sit for a minute or two, tried again....quick ass clicking...but everytime I would try to start it the clicks would be shorter and shorter before it finally just wasnt making any noise, like I drained it?? So I had someone attempt to give me a jump and it did nothing....however, she didnt know how to hook up the cables so that might've been user error....but does ANYONE know what this could be? Is it a starter/altrntr/battery issue or is this a computer/electric issue. FML I love this g.d. car and I just want her to be fixed now. 😭😭😭😭

      @hybrid32494  6 років тому +1

      So you changed the thermostat yourself? That's actually the only thing I have not done myself (even my local auto station said they didn't want to work on that and I had to take it to a actual dealer). Although the Gen 2 models have a more complicated thermostat than your does. Thats quite an achievement, what else have you done?

    I'm glad I found this video. I own a 2000 Lincoln Ls V8 model. I purchase it in 2002 with 29,000 miles on it. As of today I have 81,000 and counting. No major issues but have suspension issues, ignition coils and the timing chain was is plastic and was replace in 2014. I didn't realize this car has two timing chains in it. I had upper and lower ball joint on the front replaced in December of 2017 which is also a typical problem with these vehicles. I take care of my car and I love it. I just try to keep up on the maintenance but I am finding that parts for the suspension are harder to find. Right now, my Change oil light will not reset after a oil change, so I am assuming it's a sensor. We have tried everything to reset even taking the cables off the battery, no luck. I keep it in the garage and I get notices all the time of Lincoln dealerships wanting to buy it back. Sorry no deal. I'm keeping this one and will put the money in it to keep it going. And yes, only premium can go in it but when I punch this car on the freeway, it takes off like a bat out of hell! I love it!

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 років тому +1

      hey buddy, glad you still keeping your LS, I love seeing others drive around. Never heard of the oil reminder not being able to be reset, it's just a timing thing, I seriously doubt it can measure or verify oil quality. I gotta say I do love mine, since I got it back in 2009. Don't drive it much, but when I do, it's def a grt drive. Of course if I could get the front caliper to move freely, that'd be great. BUt the wheel nut it stuck, seized, cant remove the wheel.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 років тому +1

      do you have a misfire that is obvious? or even a check engine light and a code that indicates a misfire? I don't see how a misfire would cause rough shifting in only some gears and not others, that seems wrong. Unless you are raving the motor to high RPM and the misfire happens bc of that.

    The 2002-2005 Ford Thunderbird is built on the same platform as the Lincoln LS V8 of same years. Tbird has same problems, coils, overheating, bad suspension, etc..I've got an 03 Tbird - biggest piece of crop I've ever owned. In the last 6 or 7 years I've never driven it more than 50 miles from home - because every time I did it had to be towed back.

      I think you mean the LSE, it's an appearance package mostly, pretty rare. Does your model have the THX sound system with the NAV? Mine is the ULTIMATE EDITION, if it wasn't for that I'd prob not have bought it back in 2009. ahaha, I have a headlight restarting video too, on a rav4. What did you use? My headlights are terrible, they seem pitted from sand or gravel, so those methods don't work, I tried it all.

    Hey man I could use some help. I just got my first car - a 2005 Lincoln LS v6 with 108k miles. It’s been frustrating because no matter what I do the car is not running at it’s best. First of all when I start the car for the first time in the day, it rough starts (vibrates a lot), and when I change the gear it jerks into reverse and forward. The car also seems to lack the appropriate power. I’ve had a check engine light on for some time. The mechanic has changed the spark plugs, cleaned the injectors and filter. Not the car was sitting around for an extended period. So he even took out aspestos (hair like) material that was stuck in the exhaust pipe. The engine is still giving issues. Apart from this, the car has a SRVC (P) code and E where P/R/D should be. My park brake light is also on. It’s been a headache honestly. Not even sure where to start. At the moment just trying to get the engine moving smooth. But sounds like it could be problem 1 & 4. I know I’m rambling on but I’m new to all this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    I have a 2005 ls. I have a question about the sealant putty you used on sunroof. What would i be looking for exactly?? Also I took rubber stripping around doors and the plastic on the footwells and remove the headboard little bit mine super loose for some unknown reason and I didn't see any type of drain tubing or anything but I'm not even positive what I'm looking for could you possibly have a picture of what it should look like so I can compare to it. And also the plastic rocker on the front that moves up and down when you open and close it is cracked in the middle could that possibly be my reason for the leak as well

    • @ontario8562
      @ontario8562 3 роки тому

      The drain plugs in the sunroof is clogged. That's something all of us LS owners are dealing with, I'm sure. Either replace the drain tubes (As they may be dry rotted and cracked) or try to push like some weed eater line through the drain tubes to clear the blockage.

    Have a 2005 LS V8 Sport.. Thanks for the video.. Extremely helpful..! I'm experiencing the Overheating and cracked / leaking plastic cooling problems.. Recently had the Coolant Inlet Pipe (Under the Throttle Body) replaced and I'm on the Second Dorman Thermostat Housing Unit (First one just cracked after 2 months) Second one may be the cause of my overheating. Right now the engine seems to want to overheat out of the blue.. However, no Coolant loss. Next step is to remove the Dorman Thermostat, bleed the system, drive around to see what happens. If still overheat will replace the DCCV (Coolant Control Valve) as it may be clogging up the Coolant flow.I noticed when I select heat to the floor I only feel heat coming from up top via the defroster vent on top of dash.These are nice cars however, Ford should have kept a lot of the Jaguar Aluminum cooling parts.. Why would you want extreme Hot Coolant running through plastic $#%^%&% ?

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 років тому +1

      Mine seems to be running hot and the fans go on high often, yet it doesn't actually overheat, and no coolant loss either. These seem to be symptoms of a clogged system, most likely also the DCCV again. Try to get the original ford thermostat for these, very important btw. Mine has also developed a weird issue where If I tough the upper right side of the radiator it's much cooler than the inlet portion (as if it's actually clogged).

    Heads up‼️
    Nothing against FEL-PRO first. I did the valve cover gaskets and O rings gaskets on Driver/Passenger
    (Driver side sucked) Fel-Pro gaskets for this engine are identical, but the driver side is not identical to the passenger side. There is a slight difference in the shape of the covers. So the driver gasket WILL NOT seal properly due to this. I had to use a little bit of JB weld on the top portion of the valve cover after 80 miles. I noticed oil leaking and figured when I installed this would be an issue so I monitored it for a week after installing. Since JB weld I’ve driven 200 + miles and no leaks🤙. I’m not sure if other gaskets are the same. This engine is the same engine in the 03 Thunder Bird & Jaguar S Type. Thanks again for your help bro, Keep that LS looking clean.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 років тому +1

      hey buddy!! thanks for watching and this comment. I've never had leaks from the valve covers in mine, I'm quite sure the covers were never even removed from factory on this car. Io only had to remove the top covers that cover the coils, no leaks there either. I'd say of the three copycat cars, the Jag XJ, S-type and Thunderbird this is the best one of them all. The gen 2 blows away the GEN 1 based thunderbird. Jaguar is a total disaster in many ways. Do you know if the jags can be serviced at ford? best thing about the Lincoln is that it can be serviced at FORD for normal prices.

    Aftermarket coils from ebay are perfect is my experience. Get 8 for about 30-40 bucks. Had my LS since 2010... changed coils twice and that t-connection once. Yes there's many plastic parts. My thermostat housing seal is broken causing air or fluid leak every time someone backs into it parallel parking. The system is pressurized so any leak will cause it to overheat until you fix it. HOWEVER, I've had more problems due to dishonest mechanics than anything else.

      Yes the trans is sealed which means it has no dip stick. On the drain plug you undo with a T40 or T25 or something and its to check your fill levels. I took out a cup and it was thin and smells burnt like as the torque converter malfunction and overheated the fluid. Today i think my fuel pump went out too. But i think i need to replace the torque converter and pressure plate.

      I had the shift solenoid issue...whenever I put it into reverse it shifted hard or there was a noticeable jerk....same going from 3rd into 4th gear....became very annoying. Took it to a trans shop and that's what they confirmed. $600 repair so while not exactly cheap it's def. cheaper than a trans rebuild which a lot of shops will say who aren't experienced with this transmission or who are looking to make a buck

You should be able to hear the car's fuel pump start priming when you put the key into the "ON" position, it sounds like a clicking noise. Typically these are common faults on all older cars. Watch other videos on how to diagnose the fuel pump, it should be pretty obvious when you understand how it works. Let me know.

I want it either in Vivid Red, Autumn Red, or preferably the Black Cherry Metallic. There is one by me at the local Lincoln dealer with a 102K miles for $5600 and it has Navi, Wood, Backup sensors...the whole 9 but that price puts it out my budget. Theres one in Ohio same color no nav or wood but sunroof and backup sensors for $3500 with 126K miles much better....What's your thoughts? I think you need to tell the dealer listing the 06 for 5600 that your offer is 3500. Chances are they will agree to let the car go at 4000. Reason I say to go with the NAV version is because mine has that feature too (its the ultimate edition) The car itself is much nicer interior wise than one without the nav and THX system. The rear seats are different too. I checked one the price of the NAV/THX sound option price when new, and it was around 3000 bucks.

He say that it starts and runs but will not move. He says exactly this " It needs a solenoid because I didn't get the speed sensor fixed. Called a mechanic and he says it's a cheap fix." Do you know anything about this situation. A mechanic I talked to said there's a few sensors that it could be. My research says there's speed sensors that can be on 1-4 wheels depending on the car. I'm thinking there's 1-2 on Lincoln's. The seller said a solenoid then says speed sensor. Research says they go by the same name. Any info/help would be great

    Not surprised what the number 1 issue is from what I've seen on the forums.
    When it comes to aftermarkets I bet how long they last will really boil down to the quality of the aftermarkets.
    The transmission problem sounds like it would be concerning....
    But my bottom line question is if I found a LS doing this how damning is this problem?
    Does this mean the transmission is on its way out and bigger problems to come?
    Or will it continue acting up like that for a long time with no further issues?
    Jerking is not extremely damning as long as it keeps working.
    But great video, thanks for doing it!

      Doorman overflow tank (good for last 5 years)
      the trans should still keep working, the shift solenoid usually just acts up, it rarely will just not be drivable. Mine is at 146K around and trans seems to have never been flushed or messed with and its fine.

      It could be wither the blend door or the DCCV. The issue is your 2002 GEN 1 model has a very different cooling system compared to the 2003 and up models. You have a hydraulic pump instead of an electric one. Does your car seem to overheat? or just hot air from the vents?

      The 2006 model is the best model year to get in terms of the cars production run (the front is better looking). In my opinion you gotta drive both to see how they compare. Just look out for the weird trans shifting and non-functional AC. Also make sure to run for at least 15 min to heat up the entire system and check for leaks after the drive. Make sure the coolant level is normal. Let me know how it goes.

Otherwise it costs the same as any other car at a local shop. It is a ford after all.

    • @claygresham6906
      @claygresham6906 5 років тому +1

      It started missing, I pulled over and it died, it would start at first and run for about 20-30 seconds then stop, then it wouldn't start at all, at first shop said it was PCM and rem. Then they said it was not. They have been unable to find out yet. I am wondering if it could be the fuel pump. When it first happened it said charging system, and the battery light came on, but it cranked fast , didn't seem to be draining the battery if it was an alternator.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 років тому +2

      ill tell you this, the alternator can cause many of the issues you're talking about. You need to see if the alternator is putting out a charge. Get a cheap AUX plug in alternator tester from harbor freight. IT will tell you the output lever and the battery levels. Fuel pump would be the second guess.

    • @claygresham6906
      @claygresham6906 5 років тому

      Thanks, the shop called and said they found the problem, in the rear of the car where the rear seatbelts are anchored to the body, they had mashed some wiring and it had rubbed through the plastic coating and caused a short of the pcm and the rear module, they spliced the wires and wired around where the sealtbelt was attached and had to replace the fried pcm and rear module. to the tune of $800, but at least its fixed, its was a stange problem.

      Just checked fueleconomy.gov and it says both the V6 and V8 require premium fuel. What's the mileage on your car now btw? It seems that the V8 models are pretty picky with fuel type, the V6 seem to be not as misfire or pinging prone. Although premium fuel leaves far less carbon buildup in the motor too. I personally never believed hype in premium VS Reg fuel, but since I have used Premium always in the Lincoln and my Smart Fortwo there has literally not been any carbon deposits on either motors. While cars Ive had which used regular always began too how carbon buildup around 80K. All have normal dealer oil changes always BTW, with original spec oils. Its possible that since higher octane detonates at a higher compression/heat that this would encourage no carbon buildup when compared to regular fuel.

    Once you replace the defective valve cover & plug gaskets and ignition coils and plugs the engine is fairly reliable, but the main problem is the whole vehicle engine and interior has possibly the cheapest and most brittle plastics I've seen in a car. Thermostat housing and inlet pipe is made of plastic absolutely stupid design. Key advice if its winter cold and the windows are frozen shut, DO NOT try to open them. The plastic guides will snap instantly and you'll have to replace the regulator so heat up the interior before opening.
