  • I have a list of "to do things" on the van, and today I made a start on them but didn't get far into the list. I ended up spending most of my time messing around with the short shirt modification putting it back to standard and then adjusting the gear linkage, I had to do this as since I got the van 5 years ago its never gone into reverse properly so today I tackled this issue and discovered that I may need to recon my gearbox.

    Twiggs, As promised I am letting you know that I have managed to set up the gears by adjusting the clamp bolt on the main lever from the gear stick lower lever to the mid cross bracket, I now get all 5 + nR no problems at all. My problem was I had no R , 1 or 2 gears and 1 when it went in was where R should have been thru the push down gate. I set the clamp tight when the gear shift was fully over (in N) where 5th is then tightened the clamp , that resolved the issue, no more wobbly shift and all gears. 1st gear is about 2mm right of the plastic housing which is spot on. Thanks for your video it enabled me to sort my issues out. I hope you get your reverse gear sorted in your gearbox refurbish. Great ☝ keep up the excellent work and help to us beginners...

      That’s spot on, I’m glad you fix and adjusted yours from the info from the video 👍 and thanks hopefully one day soon I’ll be able to afford a replacement gearbox, it’s only reverse that mine doesn’t like, which you don’t need reverse for an mot which is probably why I’ve left it soo long 😂

    A really helpful video, our 94 T4 wont get R and difficult to get 1 & 2, I can see the gear lever assy under the van needs some adjustment. This video is a real help. I will come back soon with my outcome. 👍👍

    Twiggs, thank you for your help, I have been driving my T4 around since I bought it three years ago , after watching again I saw that mine was put back together wrong, I just assumed that it was how it should be, it feels like a new gearbox now, Thanks again!!🙂

    Great video, thanks! Our T4 doesnt go into 1st gear easy at all, will be raplcing the selector rod balls first but now I know how to adjust the linkage if that doesnt cure the problem :)

    Great upload Matt. Thanks for sharing how much play you have. My gear lever has more play, so those bushes will need to be changed, as does my gear support bearing ring. I’ll let you know if I get less play once I’ve swapped them out🙏👍🏼

    Nicely done mate, that seat base panel looks sweet!! ..could have popped round for the step drill bit 👍 Gear linkage is a ballache, I need to adjust mine as 1st is a tight one. Had it out before when doing the short shift and the ball bush at the front.

      Thanks buddy 🙏 yeah the seat base panel looked better than I was expecting 👌 yeah I did think about giving you a call but it was already getting late in the day. Gear linkage is definitely easier with 2 people, it was a pain adjusting underneath then getting in to test gears then back underneath to re-adjust, luckily i managed to get it spot on 2nd try 👌

    The $12 gaskets i purchased seemed way too cheap, so, i decided that i would spend a few dollars more and buy genuine ones, and guess what?, they were only $460, i was one happy camper i tell you!!!

    Hi Matt, good content as usual, noticed a couple of things, your swivel seat bases are the same as I fitted in mine, I stripped mine down to paint them and was surprised to find the swivel movement is a wooden disc with holes with bearings dropped in the holes, are yours the same or did you upgrade to plastic/ nylon discs? Asking as my passenger one creaks a bit lol.
    Also noticed you have not fitted a cruise control looking at your stalk, any plans, the loom is already to plug and play. Prance project also has done a vid on a cruise control box which is very cheap to buy if you were thinking of it👍
    My van is a swb w reg T4, still with all seats fitted, what rock n roll bed did you get and where did you get your camper units from, I’m thinking of changing mine to a day van.

    • @TwiggsT4
      @TwiggsT4  2 роки тому +1

      Hi buddy, thank you 🙏
      So the swivel seat bases are fine I’ve not really looked into the swivel mechanism and I’m shocked to hear it’s wooden, now you’ve said that you know I’m going to have to investigate, but no mine doesn’t creak.
      Ahah the cruise control, I tried to get one many years ago from main dealer but my mate Matt genuinely brought the last one in uk stock. I’ve seen them on eBay new and used but I’m not willing to pay that much. I would never fit one of those little cruise control boxes because I like to keep my van as oem as possible, if James from @calicampers ever wants to sell me one of the oem ones for cheap then I’ll fit one 👍
      Sames swb, I sold the seats for a lot as they where as good as new, the bed in streamline, looks good but not what I wanted and I still wanna upgrade it as some point in the future, and the units are bespoke, I had to drive to evo designs in wareham to get the wood at over £150 a sheet, I got 2 sheets 8ft x 4ft I brought all the tools and built it all for less than £500(tools including) it took me 2 weeks over the Easter holidays a few years ago. I think I covered everything 😂 👍

      @@TwiggsT4 you sir are a very talented man, ref OEM, agree, I’m the same. The Swivels I have are by CMC , maybe an earlier model to what they sell now. Mine have ONE bolt in the centre which connects the top to the base, the newer ones have a different design I think.
      Thanks to your reverse camera instal I’ll be doing mine soon although I got a wired kit, thanks for posting and keep it up.
      Let me know if your ever in the East Midlands, be nice to meet up👍👍thanks for replying too

    • @TwiggsT4
      @TwiggsT4  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you, yeah mine are cmc, I will investigate this soon because I’m now curious to see if mine needs an upgrade. The camera upgrade is without a doubt the best buddy when it comes to parking 👍 no more reversing into the parked car behind before slightly moving forward(hoping no one was watching 😂)
      You never know when my luck will change, and when that happens I’ll tour the uk and arrange some meet ups 🤞👍🤙

    The play on the gear stick is down to the gear selector unit under the bonnet that goes into the gearbox over time the spring loses tension causing the play the unit is were the big ball goes on to if it moves up & down easy then the spring has lost its tension

      Start with replacing all your gear linkages. Hopefully that’ll do the trick, currently they don’t make spares for the o2b gearbox so reconditioning it can be expensive
