Where your fuel line comes out the bottom of your tank those originally had a shut off valve there. Many broke or became inoperative over the years. You may want when your fuel gets low to look and see if yours works if so I would suggest putting a filter like many did on the old freestanding kerosene/fuel tanks for furnaces. They have a larger mesh than that inline fuel filter but a much larger capacity. You could replace that original valve in the bottom of the tank with a 1/4 turn ball valve at this time. It will make servicing your fuel system much easier and catch all that crud in your tank prior to your inline filter. I think you will find that inline filter is going to be plugging up on you fairly often. That isn't your chain you were asking about, that is your pins. The chain/rails is what they go through. Those have a lot of wear on them. They have about 20-30% life left. They are worn past their worth to have turned.

Squatch253 did a series about pins and bushings on a D2 dozer. You might wanna check that out. It's a ton of work to flip them and not too many people do it anymore.
