  • Susan Jacks was a regular performer on Music Hop (Let's Go) from the age of 15, soon to be 16. In the spring of 1966, she and Terry met for the first time when he appeared as a guest on Music Hop for the filming of a tribute to the British invasion. Susan was 17 and Terry was 22. That fall, Susan would happen to ask Terry to accompany her on rhythm guitar for an engagement she had. The Poppy Family would evolve over the next few months when Craig McCaw joined them on lead guitar, later introducing Satwant Singh to complete their signature sound.

    Susan had everything... including the spooky magic of being able to fundamentally connect with a 9 year old
    listening to a pocket transistor radio. A voice and soul comparable only to the very best. Thank you for sharing your gift with us Susan, you are loved.

    Sorry we’ve lost her. Their Music was epitome of innocence before many things broke loose. Graduating HS in 67 and then college til’ 71 was indeed a cultural evolution and upheaval to experience. I love my life today in 2022 but man those years were f’n great for the young at many levels. As has been said, “ the best of times and the worst of times”. Damn that war. Will today prove to be similar for another 72 year old man in the future.

    I recorded “That’s Where I Went Wrong” off of AM radio onto my dads Sears reel to reel in 69 or 70 and even though the sound was awful I played it countless times. I finally got to Wallacs Music City and bought the 45 and “Which Way You Going Billy” I was truly enchanted by her and her voice. I never thought to stalk her though (I was 13 years old);

      And to think in 1965/1966 Terry played a wild version of No Blood Out Of Bone. I think Terry wasn't getting into it because the band backing him is so flat and dead.

    • @ThePoppyFamily1
      @ThePoppyFamily1  7 років тому +4

      Terry's version of "No Blood In Bone" was done with the Chessmen and was very much in the style of the early 60s. The Poppy Family put their collective spin on it to bring it to the psychedelic style of the late 60s.

      Hey WOW man, I'll bet if Terry had just sung "Hey YOU, leggo my EGGO ", they could've got some sponsorship out of it...(but that brand waffle hadn't been introduced yet)

    Terry - NO! Susan - YES! He cannot sing those songs, he sounds awful. She can sing anything and sound good!

    • @lloydzilinski4401
      @lloydzilinski4401 2 роки тому +5

      Terry's voice wasn't his talent, his composing skills were his biggest talent and shone in the late '60s and into the '70s. That said, when he sang I'm Gonna Love You Too he did a credible job with his version and sold more records than Buddy Holly did with the original. And on his own songs; If You Go Away, Concrete Sea, and of course Seasons In The Sun his light, wispy vocals define the songs and make them his.
      Susan sure knocked it out of the park on Tobacco Road.😄

    A couple of those songs she should have stayed away from, specifically the cover of Dusty Springfield's song and Judith Durham's. She is good but not in their league and the comparison is right there for anybody to make.

    • @cameronduff884
      @cameronduff884 2 роки тому

      I don't know enough to debate you, but another one of my favorite singers wanted to be more like Dusty Springfield, but the group Shocking Blue wanted her to be more like Gracie Slick....I think at some point she gained more control as we entered into the Disco Era.
