Canada has lost one of its brightest stars, the lovely Susan Jacks has passed. Aug. 19, 1948 - Apr. 25, 2022 She will forever be remembered by her many fans for her beauty, talent and kind heart.
Susan Jacks, one of the grestest voices to ever grace the stage, and Terry Jacks, one of the most prolific singer/songrwriters in history. The pride of three provinces, Terry From Winnipeg, Manitoba, Susan from Saskatchewan and later BC, the Poppy Family took the world by storm yet is still to this day largely unknown and still being discovered by the broad masses who never got to hear their greatness in years gone by. One listen to "Which way you goin' Billy", "Seasons in the Sun", "Concrete Sea", etc, and anyone with real taste in music is hooked instantly.
This is a video I will watch again. I liked the Poppy Family back in the 60s and I adore the Everly Brothers. It's wonderful to hear them so relaxed, just being themselves and chatting. God Bless the Everly Brothers and the Poppy Family. Soundtrack of my youth 🎼🖤
Great share! Never heard of The Poppy Family, but didn't Terry Jacks have a 70s hit, "Season's In The Sun?" And a "new," rare interview with The Everly Brothers! Nice. Thanks for uploading.
Thanks, Mary, AGJ, and Roni for sharing this very interesting video. I love the songs, getting to see someone new to me and of course, those wonderful Everly Brothers. WOW! So cute. Thanks, ST40TV. *****.
Susan jack was from maple ridge and she started singing as a teenager in a maple ridge group called the marry makers and my brother went to high school with her
Interesting listening to the Everly Bros interview, for some reason I always thought they grew up in the deep south and would have expected more southern sounding accents but after hearing the absence of them here I now read that they grew up mostly in Iowa.
Susan and Terry recorded the "Seasons In The Sun" album and her solo album "I Thought Of You Again" before Susan left the marriage. Terry had a solo career while the Poppy Family was still together but nothing much happened until Seasons In The Sun. He never could re-capture the same success and retired from the business many years ago.
Terry Jacks had two hits in the 70's with Jacques Brel songs "Seasons in The Sun" was the biggest followed by "If You Go Away",he launched a solo career after The Poppy Family split, and Terry and Susan divorced.
Susan gave Grace Slick a run for her money in the set of pipes category! Wow... I've been in love with her since "Billie" came out! for me? this video ended at 8:40.
I may be wrong but I think Terry Jacks messed up missed a line of Elusive Butterfly but Susan expertly moved in and just sang along so you would only notice if you knew the song. You can see her looking at him at that point while he just chugs along.
He missed more than one line - in fact he missed several ! Yes, what was Susan thinking when she looked at him . . . ! She covered for him like a true professional.
Stalking someone. I thought I made it up, but apparently not, according to Urban Dictionary it is: "When somebody is watching another person, without their consent and knowledge. Lingering about and acting creepy, in general"
Read these lyrics goatstaog and tell me that is not stalking: You might wake up some mornin' To the sound of something moving past your window in the wind And if you're quick enough to rise You'll catch a fleeting glimpse of someone's fading shadow Out on the new horizon You may see the floating motion of a distant pair of wings And if the sleep has left your ears You might hear footsteps running through an open meadow Don't be concerned, it will not harm you It's only me pursuing somethin' I'm not sure of Across my dreams with nets of wonder I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love You might have heard my footsteps Echo softly in the distance through the canyons of your mind I might have even called your name As I ran searching after something to believe in You might have seen me runnin' Through the long-abandoned ruins of the dreams you left behind If you remember something there That glided past you followed close by heavy breathin' Don't be concerned, it will not harm you It's only me pursuing somethin' I'm not sure of Across my dreams with nets of wonder I chase the bright elusive butterfly of lov
+Debbee Winegar You are right. You could gleen stalking. But is of a butterfly the song leans to not a person. That only my opinion. You could be correct in your assessment/it can be taken both ways I think. hagd/
I've always loved the song, but when I started really listening to the lyrics I felt it was a bit stalky. The singer is moving past her/his window. It did make me feel a bit uncomfortable. But that is just me. Someone who has been stalked and I will tell you: it is a horrible thing to go through. So maybe I am just a bit paranoid.
The closest thing that I have to a claim to fame is haven taken guitar lessons in the late 1960's from Terry Jacks. He and his brothers went to the same high school as I did - Prince of Wales. I think it was his brother Ron who got busted by the cops for having pot in his locker. That triggered a student strike for half a day.
god was that good. ive never heard poppy family do so many covers. susan was hot! I think they were together from 66 to 73. he went to pw and she went to nwss. they rally butchered price of love though, a #2 hit in England in 1965.
So this must have been recorded mid 1967 or later, seems how they mentioned the Everlys had been together for at least 10 years and their first hits were in 1957. Plus they mentioned they like the Beatles Sgt Pepper....which wasnt released until May of 1967.....so this had to be recorded after then...
Sorry about that. When You Walk in the Room was written and first recorded by Jackie DeShannon in 1963 and then ten years later it was covered by the Searchers who then covered another DeShannon song Needles and Pins written by Jack Nitzche
+ST40TV After the Searchers' "When You Walk in the Room" became a hit, The Rokes, a British band based in Italy covered that song with Italian lyrics, giving the Italian youth a taste of the British Invasion without the need to know English.
"Which Way You Goin' Billy?" was a global, multi-million-selling hit single from the Canadian band The Poppy Family in 1969 and "Seasons in the Sun" became a worldwide hit in 1974 for the Poppy Family's Terry Jacks.
Actually CBC let performers dress however they want to, although originally some years earlier there was a costume designer assigned to the shows to coordinate colours, etc. so as not to clash with other performers and the actual set. Susan looked great in whatever she wore.
Everly Bros are weirdo's but cannot help but noticing Terry's slathering and networking....."so do ever invest in other acts?" That is pathetic. But Christ is Suzanne ever lovely. I hope Terry didn't pimp her to get ahead..............

Its pretty raw the show but thesevwere great artists. I had a crush on Susan Jacks especially her soulful ballads
We miss you Susan. We were blessed to have you and your beautiful voice singing Terry's songs. One of a kind.
The Poppy Family sings this song so well! Susan and Terry Jacks.
This is one of the best things I've ever seen. The Poppy Family rules!
Прекрасный дуэт! ❤
Susan was Beautiful and What a VOICE.
Susan is a very beautiful, she also has a captivating voice.
Both were such good singers together. Terry and Susan Jacks.
Miss you Susan. ❤❤
Man, their voices sounded amazing together!
yeah- she was one of Canada`s most beautiful woman- and still is stunning!
Thanks for the music 🎶 🎵 ❤️
Many things have changed here in Vancouver since then, but still good city to live in...
I really enjoyed that. I still have the original single 'Which way are you going Billy' from when I was a kid. really good sounding group
Viva Vancouver- rock on! Thanks for the memories 🇨🇦💓📺🔊🎵🎶😍 great show ... remember when I was a kid.
This 13 min. video is like oxygen to me. I need it every so often to live. Thanks again @ST40TV!

Susan Jacks was fore more than just "Which Way You Going Billy". RIP Susan Jacks
Wow- I really liked Susan and Terry Jacks... and the Poppy Family. This is a great version of Somebody to Love and other song covers!
Great singers these lads are AWESOME
Great share! Never heard of The Poppy Family, but didn't Terry Jacks have a 70s hit, "Season's In The Sun?" And a "new," rare interview with The Everly Brothers! Nice. Thanks for uploading.
Watching with friend Chris Hoffman in Vancouver BC Canada 🇨🇦
Susan Jacks was a very good singer. As good anybody from that era.
Susan Jacks. Sexy voice and great looks. She should have been more famous.
This is Great! Great sound!
That was the only time I've seen the Everly brothers interviewed ; great singers .
Thanks, Mary, AGJ, and Roni for sharing this very interesting video. I love the songs, getting to see someone new to me and of course, those wonderful Everly Brothers. WOW! So cute. Thanks, ST40TV. *****.
Man oh man what a team vocally :>)
Wonderful had no idea they covered a lot of songs.
This is amazing footage and rare! Susan could make you stop dead in your tracks she was so good looking.
She still looks awesome today!
She's still gorgeous today Susan is a babe magnet.
@@garyvandecar8554 you need to look up "babe magnet," the meaning...

Susan was so beautiful !
Thank you for sharing this classic clip with me, Loretta - good stuff! :)
Thanks for the upload , I feel like I found hidden treasure ❤😊
Susan jack was from maple ridge and she started singing as a teenager in a maple ridge group called the marry makers and my brother went to high school with her
Great JA cover
Agree- Susan sounded more tough that usual!
They were great thanks
Terry Jacks was in his early twenties when Susan Pesklevits asked him to play guitar for her. Susan had just turned 18. The Poppy Family was born.
Far out!
Rest in peace my love ❤️❤️
Awesome!
amazin thanks uploader
Very nice video. Good job by everyone.
Unlike other shows at the time, Let's Go on CBC and Jeunesse Oblige on Radio-Canada had live acts and not lipsynching.
The guitar player has a nice jacket. Somewhere there was a 69 Volks wagen missing It's seatcovers
+Russell Peters it's called houndstooth pattern - made famous by Bob Dylan a few years before. His name is Craig McCaw.
He stole it from Scoobie Doobie Doo and The Gang!!
Has anyone else noticed how Phil and Don rise their right hands at the exact same moment at 12:12?
Interesting listening to the Everly Bros interview, for some reason I always thought they grew up in the deep south and would have expected more southern sounding accents but after hearing the absence of them here I now read that they grew up mostly in Iowa.
Thank you 😊
수잔잭슨..영상통해 보게 되어 너무반가워요.

RIP Phil.

I don’t think Susan was part of the Seasons album.
Terry Jacks had two hits in the 70's with Jacques Brel songs "Seasons in The Sun" was the biggest followed by "If You Go Away",he launched a solo career after The Poppy Family split, and Terry and Susan divorced.
Groovy...Far Out Man!!!!!
god she was gorgeous
She was insanely good looking in person. She could make you weak in the knees during her hippy chick years. (Early 20's).
She still is.
Amazingly shiny hair- must have used Breck....
Susan gave Grace Slick a run for her money in the set of pipes category! Wow... I've been in love with her since "Billie" came out! for me? this video ended at 8:40.
Amazing talent, too bad we in the U S didn't see much exposure other than Which Way You Goin Billy!
I may be wrong but I think Terry Jacks messed up missed a line of Elusive Butterfly but Susan expertly moved in and just sang along so you would only notice if you knew the song. You can see her looking at him at that point while he just chugs along.

The tape is clearly edited at 3:12, and after the edit Susan is singing along with Terry.
🔵I LIKE SUSAN'S VERSION OF "DO YOU WANT SOMEONE TO LOVE" BETTER THAN GRACE SLICKS VERSION.🔴
Wow..what a find for PF fans. Wonderful footage. Too bad Singh wasn't included.
Agreed, fantastic! And interesting to hear how strong the sound is even without a bassist.
I agreed. Satwant was an integral part of their sound.
R.I.P. Susan Jacks
Notice how Susan is just standing there in the background while Terry talks to the Everly Brothers. That's how Terry treated Susan.
They made Susan stand at attention behind the boys for the whole interview!?
Loved the Poppy family's version of Gone Gone Gone! Maybe that's where Alison Krauss and Robert Plant got their inspiration for a girl-boy version.
RIP Susan Jacks.
10:18 Don Everly is almost the spitting image of Gene Pitney.
The song is "Elusive Butterfly" a #5 US hit for singer/songwriter Bob Lind in 1966.
I find that song a little "Stalky" don't you? I love the song and Terry Jacks nailed it! But still.

It's only me pursuing somethin' I'm not sure of
Across my dreams with nets of wonder
I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love
You might have heard my footsteps
Echo softly in the distance through the canyons of your mind
I might have even called your name
As I ran searching after something to believe in
You might have seen me runnin'
Through the long-abandoned ruins of the dreams you left behind
If you remember something there
That glided past you followed close by heavy breathin'
Don't be concerned, it will not harm you
It's only me pursuing somethin' I'm not sure of
Across my dreams with nets of wonder
I chase the bright elusive butterfly of lov

Famous hit Seasons in the Sun
back then, it was very hard work getting those performances "just right."

You are correct. It was recorded in 1967.
💟✝️☮️
that's a searchers song
Thomas Maguirein 1963 and covered 10 years later by the Searchers who then recorded another DeShannon song Needles and Pins written by Jack Nitzche. .

anyone know the name of the song @ 2:34
Elusive Butterfly
"During the interview portion let's just have Susan stand in the background and look pretty". No wonder she dumped his butt.
Susan Jack’s was a very good singer and she’s a hell lot better looking than Grace slick and this is Terry jacks before he grew his Afro
POPPY BROS
why is he not singing the backup harmony correctly on Somebody To Love?
It was their version not JA's, I liked his harmony. Each to their own.
SO... The Everly Brothers, did not get to sing?
They were not contracted to sing but only for a promotional interview.
kinda tacky to ask them about money...
There're not bad at all!
"Which Way You Goin' Billy?" was a global, multi-million-selling hit single from the Canadian band The Poppy Family in 1969 and "Seasons in the Sun" became a worldwide hit in 1974 for the Poppy Family's Terry Jacks.
Did anyone know that when they were singing somebody to love the song was actually made by Jefferson airplane
Yes we knew. In those days most songs on Let's Go were covers of hits and it was the advent of the Beatles that changed things.
I came here from game grumps poppy bros remix
Needed a bass player
you?
ffs is that who the poppy family are
Jacks beat Susan
So shocked hope he was born of God
Susa is dressed very conservatively here…I guess CBC didn’t want any phone calls or letters…
Actually CBC let performers dress however they want to, although originally some years earlier there was a costume designer assigned to the shows to coordinate colours, etc. so as not to clash with other performers and the actual set. Susan looked great in whatever she wore.
This is OK, as far as pseudo-psychedelic inoffensive cover bands go, but Seasons In The Sun is still a scourge from the bowels of Satan.
lol it really is
Everly Bros are weirdo's but cannot help but noticing Terry's slathering and networking....."so do ever invest in other acts?" That is pathetic. But Christ is Suzanne ever lovely. I hope Terry didn't pimp her to get ahead..............
Everly brothers were awesome best harmony singers..also very handsome, gentlemen
Marina Schamehorn yes they certainly were!! They weren’t “weirdos”!! I think someone is jealous!!
