    Great point Vanessa. Reputations can be destroyed both ways when it comes to flagging inappropriate behaviour in the workplace. Greg’s response to this, illustrates the fact perfectly. Women within the industry are frightened of not being taken seriously and labelled as difficult to work with, prudes, uncool, hysterical, ridiculous. A clever tool
    to try to discredit and silence anyone who would consider making a complaint.

    Whilst Mr Wallace may well of overstepped the mark on numerous occasions, from what you have just described it would seem to me that the whole television industry is little more than a den of iniquity. In my working life, never have I been offered sex or drugs (or ironing for that matter) as a working perk of the job. Perhaps it is time to seriously reign in these so called stars (many of whom are totally talentless anyway), and make the broadcasters accountable. Horrendous working practices which you will find in no other professional industry.

    • @juliebentley7082
      @juliebentley7082 2 місяці тому +3

      Having been subjected to what would be described as bullying harassment from a male boss whilst working in further education a number of years ago, I can say that this type of behaviour is not limited to the television/entertainment industry. I did make a complaint, after seeing not only how he treated me but also how he subjected other female colleagues to his sociopathic and totally unacceptable actions. Unfortunately, despite approaching the other women to ask if they would support me, there was not a united front to pursue the matter collectively, as they were scared that they would lose their jobs. Vanessa makes a very valid point about the wielding of power by those who hold higher positions. In my case, I compiled a dossier of everything that my manager said and did that constituted his intimidating actions, with dates. Eventually, I managed to persuade one younger colleague to be a witness for me and I was able to take my case to human resources, where there was mediation, and my manager was "obliged" to apologise to me. His appalling behaviour towards me stopped, but I still doubted that he was sincerely sorry. His actions impacted my mental health at the time. It definitely takes courage to raise your voice to go against someone who has any kind of power, especially within institutions, where people collude to cover up any kind of questionable behaviour that upsets the perceived status quo.

      This sort of behaviour goes on EVERYWHERE,there are men everywhere who act inappropriately and push boundarie and take advantage not just in the TV industry.Yes it might be that the star talent makes it worse but it goes on in every single industry.Most women have expereinced something like this whether at work or elsewhere...it just that most of you men do not notice it or think it happens only in certain places

    • @musicman4164
      @musicman4164 Місяць тому +2

      @@upendasana7857 that's not the point I made. What I said was there are few industries where employees / stars are offered vast sums of money, sex and drugs as perks of the job, which is what Vanessa said was offered to her. This is therefore down to the culture of the television industry, and therefore radical changes are required.

    I don’t believe Gregg Wallace’s status as a “star” is what makes him feel free to make lewd remarks to or about women whenever he feels like it. He has probably been that way since he was at school and will be too immature to realise that his contemptuous attitude extends to demean female members of his own family who (perhaps?) he may love. His inappropriate behaviour goes deeper than lack of good manners, there’s something twisted inside his head. Unfortunately he’s far from alone.

      @ He hasn’t been charged because he hasn’t committed a crime. This situation for GW has been of his own making. Had he simply apologised for past behaviour then the matter could have been resolved easily and quickly. But he stupidly went on the attack. Basically telling women to shut up. So, he invited all the women he had offended in the past to come forward. He is the architect of his own downfall. Has been incredibly disrespectful and arrogant in his attitude to all women, not to mention his wife. It’s not about being offended about something that happened 10 years ago. He threw down the gauntlet when he refused to accept he did anything wrong and insulted all women who criticised his behaviour. You reap what you sow!

    I think he was just bragging to those women in the lift to come across as a sexy, desirable god when in fact , I’m betting nothing happened in his bedroom that morning other than his wife was still fast asleep when he left the house. Such sleazy behaviour, and I have no sympathy for him . If any man did or said anything that I found particularly offensive I don’t care who he is, I would let him know about it, and I’m not easily offended . I have a good sense of humour, but boundaries have to be respected by both men and women.

    Vanessa, you're so intelligent. The way you project your opinions is second to none. And this is no exception. The "star" of the show outside of the celebrity world can simply be the one who whose knowledge is totally relied upon. Making them very powerful. So powerful in fact, they think it's ok to send you messages about oral sex, make inappropriate remarks about your body, openly discuss you in front of other men in a sexual way. Abuse their position by pushing you out of the way in front of customers. Need I say more? There is more. But I wont say anymore. The simple fact is men are still getting away with this! Why, because if and when the victim reports it they're made to feel like a trouble maker, a prude (as I was called), not normal etc. I did report this individual and although it initially seemed that I had been taken seriously by the owner of the business, I later heard them talking about me to the rest of my male colleagues! I can't tell you how that made me feel. GW has, as you have so rightly pointed out, insulted all women with is comments and behaviour. And should be removed from his position of power.

    Yesterday at a seniors social group a guy told a denigrating joke about women. Most of the group are women. They shook their heads and made tut tut noises because they'd been told jokes by men that put women down their whole life. 'That's just the way men are,' they said.
    I told him otherwise. These jokes are not ok. He couldn't apologise because he said it's just a joke and adding that he's among the most respectful men if women. The older women remained silent and then made excuses for him. His age, he honestly doesnt understand etc They told me I sounded hysterical.
    I'm sorry we are this way. I'm sorry that when a woman speaks out attempts are made to silence her, by the perp and the immediate sisterhood can't allow uncomfortable truths to have air.
    Listening to you this morning restored some of my serenity. Thank you and blessed be.

    This video should have ended right at the point where Vanessa said "I haven't personally see or witnessed Gregg Wallace say any of these things". If she hasn't experienced it personally then perhaps she should but out. If ever there was a good example of creating meaningless content then this is it. I haven't personally witnessed it but I have a mate who knows a bloke down the pub who's sister, who said that her friend, who works in prosthetics on TV said that Vanessa is actually bald and wears a wig, She knows this because she was involved in making it up!

    Very fair summary of events. Non attacking and factual. Your points are well made, why not apologise 🤷🏻‍♀️. I cringed when I heard his insta post about middle class middle aged women 🤦🏻‍♀️, he’s obviously not taking any advice on how to manage this situation. The man is clearly very unhappy but seem like he doesn’t even think he’s done anything wrong or understands that he has caused offence. I’m pretty gobsmacked that William Sitwell said “My mate Gregg has a mouth like Bernard Manning - but he’s a top bloke”. Bernard Manning would not have survived in TV in the past 10-15 years with his misogynistic foul mouth. I’m not sure why William thinks that comment is going to be of any help to Greg!
