It's rare to see a man with composure and a grounded perspective... Might be more rare than a muscular physique tbh. And when the two are packaged together? It's straight up awe-inspiring. Powerful stuff.
This conversation was really helpful! My key takeaways are 1. Be careful training abs to heavy as it can lead to distention and back injury. Use lighter weight or your just your bodyweight as an alternative. 2. Don't underestimate the power of mind muscle connection. Stick with exercises that feel right for your body instead of the ones other people claim are the "best". 3. When it comes to the nurture side of the equation, children are more influenced by the friends they have (and families of those friends) than they are by their own parents.
@@ModelJames13abs are genetic and diet you get core work from squats or standing and tightening while doing curls press downs etc doing heavy an training is very overrated. I know you won’t change the way you think and probably still think you’re right but just lay off it and diet and do the heavy squats and dead’s and you’ll see you get just as much work for them
I've been a coach for 17 years, previous gym owner and have an intrinsic love for training. The biggest point made in this entire video for me was the 'parenting experience' section. My wife and I are 100% home educating our children.
Ryan is such an impressive character. Physique gets bashed by the bigger classes in bodybuilding but dine properly it's an absolute craft and Ryan is a master at it.
I’m doing my first mens physique competition in a couple months and just found out about Ryan Terry recently, this man resonates with me and the reason I started bodybuilding as well. True inspiration.
Excellent! looking forward to listening to this. Can you please get more fitness industry people on the podcast? I want to see Chris Bumstead, Robert Timms, and Derek Lundsford as guests here as well.
Chris u are the top Ashellon of podcasters. I just discovered u a couple of months ago. But as a podcaster myself I can really appreciate ur talent. Ur style may come across as an interregation. But simultaneously you keeping hitting the sweet spot between maximal value extraction and spontentaity. Keep it up!
Chris Williamson chats a lot of technical jargon modern business bollocks and honestly he is better when he doesn't. A question can be simplified. Other than that the guy is uber talented. Great guest
25:52 I laughed so hard when Chris said "Someone's listening to this, hanging from a bar right now. What is the queue to go from 'I am hanging straight' to 'I am doing a leg raise"
Iso-Holds gotta remember that, thanks for the content I appreciate your work. I figured I do these Iso-Holds partially while I am training with my own bodyweight. It seems to be great to get a better control over isolated muscle groups, to pump you up with O2 etc. Thanks
Great chat; the title was a bit deceiving but still stuck around for the entire thing. My only request is to keep it real so listeners never have to guess what the topic is
Regarding nature vs nurture, nurture has an effect but when I look at me and my sister, we were treated exactly the same but my sister turned out completely differently to me!
He doesn't have any bodybuilding secrets. All bodybuilding knowledge is very public. Step 1. Lift hard for a few years and see where you land on the genetic pecking order. Step 2. If genetically gifted, jump on steroids and become a monster. Step 3: Hopefully you hop off the roids before they kill you.
It's the same thing with these fitness people, they have this whole bill of lies they're trying to sell you, but the secret is always steroids in the end.
My god, I've never been more glad Chris Williams isn't my father. His taking productivity to parenting, with his vetting everyone and elitist villages sounds horrendous..
That’s some scary parenting thoughts. Simple: Instil discipline at a young age, be around for your kids so they know they can come to you, and number one make sure they’re healthy. The rest is out of your control and the more you grip the further they slip away.
Omg...his son is gonna have over 10yrs worth of exp. by the time he starts applying to jobs. 😂😂😂 (Assuming he said his son was made the Director by age 2.) He's gonna be one of the few people who have tons of exp. for their entry level job (and gets the job as a result). LOL just being funny. What an amazing person. I learned some good fitness hygiene from this video!
He’s an interesting listen, but I think you did him a big disservice logging him as a Fitness Model. He is a professional bodybuilder, just competing in the Physique Class.
I doubt he will ever win the Mr. O unless he takes more time off for a long offseason and adds a whole lot more mass. Erin Banks, Brandon Hendrickson, and Corey Morris are just too far ahead of him. Corey Morris especially I think will end up winning the Mr. O several years in a row. Plus of course he's got the wildcard of Jeremy Buendia coming back; he might do a lot better than people expect. But all that said, I think he should still compete until age 40 at least because he clearly loves it. And there's always the Master's Mr. O.
I'm coming back to reply to this and admit I was wrong. And I am REALLY glad I was wrong. But to be fair, the criteria for MP has clearly changed this year to favor a less big look with more emphasis on delts/abs. In the older criteria what I wrote might have been correct, but definitely not for 2023. Congratulations to Ryan! @@bhekmusadlamini3743
unless the conversation of his gear use is front and center, then he's a bold faced liar. He has no right to coach, no right to sell supplements, no right to talk about sleep until he says okay boys, these are the illegal drugs I am taking. At 44 I've been lifting all my life and see the young guys, the kids look up to these fools, and they are selling a lie. They are selling a fiction, because they got where they are by taking drugs that have been proven to kill you. This channel tries to talk about honesty and truth, well it really dropped the ball on this episode. Should of got a pharmacy degree.
@@jeltoninc.8542 Then 1. he needs to stay the hell away from kids. He's no role model. BB can be a natural sport, what the human body can do naturally is amazing, yet you have liars like this come on and talk about sleep, and supplements, and motivation. It's a lie, and I thought a channel like this would be able see through that. I guess not.
@@ExpatRiot79Chris definitely knows steroids and bodybuilding go hand in hand. You can’t bring up the topic either in interviews because they’re selling supplements, and will completely ruin their brands. I don’t think you can do BB(professional) natural. Guys will just hop off the juice when shows are coming up and they would test clean. And this could be said for any sport(they all do steroids).
Had this saved in my watch later and was looking forward to it…not gonna lie, turned it off the second he said he was an athlete but competed in men’s physique. I think the definition of athlete is banded around way too freely these days.
what i find annoying when theres a podcast with guys that are in these sports is the facts they all hide the fact they use steriods and never mention it. dont give people advice to build muscle and dont mention oh and take steroids and that makes a huge diff
That’s because you’re looking at it from a narrow lens, he’s not saying “if you want to be a bodybuilder like me all you have to do is take supplements and train” he’s saying if you want to “build muscle” which fundamentally if all you want to do is BUILD MUSCLE, then you don’t need to take steroids of course, but im sure if the conversation was, if you want to be a professional bodybuilder, there would be more talk about the juice, everyone knows pro bodybuilders aren’t natural. Why do they need to mention it every time they talk?

Never came across Ryan before but he's a very likeable man, genuine and humble.
One thing i noticed with lifting weights consistently for 20 years is that you start to become an expert on what works for you.
