Hey Lloyd, 1:33 is still a great time mate. Even more so when you consider you run mainly trails. Don't be so hard on yourself - you did great!

1:33 is a solid time Loyd! I think if you’d been out to flush the legs out for a couple of runs that week, you’d have found it easier - but as you said, it’s what you think is right at the time so it’s difficult to do anything else!
Tick it off next time, you’ve got it!

The story telling made me to believe as if you are suffering and bound to just finish ~2hrs mark, and yet you pulled a 1:33:xx .
    Thats plenty fast.👊

2-3 long runs on tarmac and you'll be ready. The foundation is there, it's just that your legs aren't used to all the road pounding. Great job!

Brilliant video! Had a similar experience in my third Boston Marathon in ‘21. Had set personal bests in the 100 K and 100 miles on Rocky Mountain trails, but couldn’t bring myself to do the road long runs, speed sessions etc. Started Boston with great enthusiasm but lacked that smooth quick turnover after less than 10 K! Disappointing finish that year - in fact, my slowest marathon ever, 3:43 after qualifying with a 3:07. At age 59, I use roads as a tool to improve my trail ultra racing, not vice-versa. Seems to be working for me but I do miss those blistering days on asphalt!

Well done, Loyd! I know how it feels when things don’t go to plan, especially when you’re thinking about a possible injury happening, etc. But you did absolutely amazing, considering you ran with a GoPro and didn’t get even some easy runs in leading up to AND that it had been years since your last road race! I’m impressed, man. Can’t wait to hear what’s next for this season!

I recon legs turning to concrete was too late on fueling probably cos of that hill, I take every 30 mins, if weather bad I go 25 mins, also warm up better, keep calm before hand, zone i& mindset s important.

Well done Loyd, reckon you did well to get around in one piece! Do agree re. Roads being tough but also think the trails can be pretty good training for the road, East African’s seem to do a lot of their training on dirt roads and it seems to work for them.

Still a brilliant time 👍 You are so right about how hard road racing is compared to trail racing, even ultras. Friends give me lots of kudos for my ultra running but I find the road much tougher. But I still throw in some road racing, the intensity is hard but it keeps pulling me back too! As well as some speed being a necessary component in training anyway.

I just ran a 1/2M after taking a week completely off for my strained lower back. It really is a crap shoot how the body will respond. I didn't have quite as much finish as I expected but still managed a decent time on a tough course. There's something I really enjoy about dialing it up to LT or just under and holding it there.

For some reason,we have very similar foot shapes or shoe preferences. I was wondering if you have tried the new Nike Terra Kiger 9 yet. I bought the shoe last week and really love it. Not quite as much cushion as the Xodus Ultra, but man I love that shoe. It also seemed to improve a lot on wet surfaces.

Really interesting to get the extra feedback, I have my first road race in 7 years coming up in October (Chester marathon), would you recommend a race 5 weeks before to remind myself what road running is like? Really respect your opinion and take on board your comment about upping the road miles in the lead up to the race (80% of training is on trail atm)

    Genuine curiosity:
How come you didn't hop on the turbo/gym bike in the two weeks? I can see why you maybe didn't want to MTB as that can take a toll, isn't always as structured and there's an inherent injury risk.
I would have thought that getting some quality work in, albeit without the pounding, would have been an option. Or did you try that and it was hurting too?
All considered, I would vote you should be happy with that time though! I think it's mighty good.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Рік тому +1

Firstly I don't own a road bike or a turbo anymore, I also don't go to any gyms. I did try the mountain bike but it didn't feel great at the time so I just rested and stretched. Hope this answers your curiosity, thanks for watching 🙏😊
