- I have had buttkickers before, but to me they have all felt just like a dull rumble without any specific details, unless of course you use one on each corner. But, that gets very expensive, very quickly!
Next level Racing have released the HF8 Haptic Gaming Pad which is designed to fit on most chairs and I very quickly discovered that it was far more detailed that previous buttkicker setups i've owned, and cheaper too! Please note, I incorrectly said $299 Aus when the price is $399. My bad, but still great value.
Many thanks to NLR for sending me this unit to test/review. If you would like to be in with a chance of winning one of these amazing Haptic Pads, then please follow the link below to enter. Its free, so why not?! Remember to use code DAVECAM for extra points 😁

I've been running a simple 4 puck ShakeIt cushion from Sim Racing Systems for years. One for each corner of the car. Turned down most of the forces and hiked up wheel slip and lock. I consider it essential kit.
That does look like a much better product than buttkickers. No annoying rattling from the rig so the neighbours will be happy. Might have to stick that on my wishlist for next Christmas. I'll still get socks mind, but I can always dream.
yeah i think that's one of the best parts about this, only reason I can't go into buttkickers, I'd feel horrible if any tiny noise reaches to people below me. this one looks very clean and actually usable.
Buttkickers have many more options for tuning so I disagree
@@chuckystang yeah definitely, but still might not be the best option for me and people like me who has neighbors living below them.
@@SerYil1 my buttkicker is mounted direct to my seat and I use rubber washers and don’t get any sound vibration or noise spillage if that makes sense. Also place a rug under your rig.
@Charles Hosea Hi Charles, when you say rubber washers, do you mean uou put them round the tubing you screw the buttkicker on to.
I agree. I have the same setup. I have two of the pucks tucked into one of those automotive lumbar support seat cushions and two additional shakers under my pedal tray. It really adds immersion and gives the impression that you are moving, because I can feel the “road” under me. The shakers plus VR, really create a cool experience. I think it’s a cool rig upgrade, if you can’t afford a motion platform. If you tune them well with Sim Hub, I think the shakers can be used to help me feel loss of tire grip.
I know you've used full motion rigs before, not sure about bass shakers. In December I put a dayton audio shaker under my seat and under my pedals and it's changed everything. It takes a while to dial it in, some sims are different like rFactor really only does gear shift, road vibration, and road rumble, and tire lock up. It doesn't do ABS, TC, and even though you can turn it on it doesn't really do wheel slip for under/over steer. ACC does all of them, ABS is freaking amazing feeling if you set it up right at the right frequency, etc. All of that said, even with all of those added ones missing in rF2, I still won't race without my shakers on. It really gives you a feeling of weight on the car like you're actually driving over the road with a car that has weight. If you can turn on all of the effects like in ACC, and get them setup well so they don't overlap each other and all of that, I actually barely use the feedback in my wheel to tell what the care is doing. I can completely feel and adjust my driving from the vibrations in the seat and frame, it's amazing. If you get the right feedback strength tuned in, it'll blend in with the wheel vibrations. My wheel is generally around 15nm, so you can imagine the vibrations are basically matching the 15nm vibrations in the wheel, it comes together in a seamless sensation.
With the Dayton Audio and Aiyima A07 (with upgraded power supply for around 150 watts), its only about $250. All run in Simhub.
hey, this sounds quite nice, can u tell me which dayton speaker or bass shaker you are using?
and how did u connect the speakers to your rig?
just bolted the speakers flush to the undersite of your seat and pedal base?
Man, this sounds like a nice setup. Do you mind sharing your Simhub settings?
@@alexanderbraun9294 I have the Dayton BST-1 under my pedals mounted to the 4040 aluminum with tnuts, the other BST-1 is under my seat with a strap (for some reason the seat I'm using has a really tight strap which works perfectly).
Using the Aiyima A07 for one and a spare nobsound amp I had sitting around for the other one. I'd say get an Aiyima A07 and get the power supply that shows on their list for around 150 watts. It's going to split the watts between the two shakers, so you'll end up with around 75 watts available per shaker which gives you some over head.
Million dollar question: will it be staying on your rig?
I am going to guess, no lol
Exactly. UA-camr business model is tough to trust, UA-camrs have to create content, product reviews are easy content. If UA-camr gives neutral/positive review product companies will send them more stuff as it's basically just part of their marketing budget. UA-camr gets views and ad revenue from youtube from easy content. No amount of "product company has no say in this video what so ever" can convince me that it's not mutually beneficial for career youtubers to support the product.
No chance he uses this long term.
Trust me, the revenue I get from videos like this wouldn't even buy me a take away. Believe it or not, I do this for you guys. It really isn't worth my time.
And, I'm not a youtuber 👍
Dave I’ve learned a ton about racecraft from watching your race videos, particularly how important consistency and patience is. Consistency translates to pressure on the guy ahead and patience is what you need in order to make the most of little mistakes they make as a result of that pressure. Thank you for sharing so much content!
These gear videos are nice little treats as they offer a little perspective from somebody who spends a lot of time in the rig. I wouldn’t have known about the VPG Stealth if not for your video. Same with this. Thanks much!
@@davecamyt didn't answer the question
I've got one of these being delivered hopefully next week, I'm so excited to have even a little bit of feedback in my bum and back.
I just upgraded to a Buttkicker PRO, which does feel better than the PLUS model I had but may have to give this a go now though. Great job on the review.
Just letting you know, it's $399 not $299 AU
Thanks for the review! I just wonder if the pad would fit in my seat. Could you share please which seat you testet the pad in and how did it fit? It seems to be a seat from simlab, right? Which model and size ist it? Thanks for your help in advance...
I’ve ordered one! Thank for the great review
If using native software, make sure you watch next level racing UA-cam video for their settings. Makes a huge difference. Haven’t tried sim hub yet, but will compare. I have this and like it. I’m adding pedal rumble kit from 3D sim and potentially bass shaker - my thought for bass shaker plus haptic pad is I can pick and choose which settings to use on each for optimal feedback
Good review. Actually costs $399 in Australia.
the app says the "brake" is turned off but you can still feel the ABS locking, is the green dot the on/off or am i missing something?
You didn't switch the brake section on, but mentioned you could feel the abs. I imagine you could feel tyre slip under hard braking instead though. Just wanted to let you know in case you wanted to edit.
Thanks for the detailed review, Dave! It looks an interesting product...
I'm definitely interested to try it and see what I think. If it's something which would make me feel that I'm sitting in an actual car because of what I'm feeling then it would be class.
I like my two buttkicker (front and back) just for immersion as ir gives a cool feeling. But it makes no change on how I drive. Aluminum profiles are hard to shake on small details. On simpler rigs (like the one I used to have) butt kickers are awesome
I'm expecting to see this built into seats in the future and that's when I'm getting more interested. Don't see myself getting a gimmicky seat pad for 250€, tbh
My concern is that I cannot find videos reviewing this on console.
@@jamesmoore7858 This likely wont be that great for console. It will likely just be full haptic vibration on low frequencies. No customization or specific feels for things like getting into abs while breaking.
Yes I wouldn't recommend it to play driving sims via the 3.5 jack. All you get is the engine. Well, that's all you can feel anyway. Via usb it's completely different 👍
My GS-5 has optional inserts for small Dayton shakers and I should've upgraded to those more early. Best bang for the buck for under 100 Euro. I can disable my huge Buttkicker Concert under the seat and won't miss much while all my 7 shakers together on my passive suspended rig are almost as good as GS-5 and G-Belt.
I have them for years, never race without them!
Thanks for the video Dave, hey if you want to try a challenging race this week try the nascar xfinity at spa. I would like to see your video on that, a lot different than the gt3 we are use to
Oh i thought it simulates G effect by applying pressures on the body areas. It's just a more elaborated bass shaker
The realest question, will it massage me after I self spin my car into the wall for comfort?
Was my 1st mind too.. 😁
I’ve got a couple of 50watt transducers,1 under my seat and 1 under my foot tray with nobsound amp using simhub and I can’t do with out them,I’m thinking of either getting 6 more or getting motion.
I had a woojer vest, it was great but bloody hot when wearing it. Ended up swelling it due to that and couldn't be arsed putting it on all the time
Would of been nice to see you review while doing a hotlap in it! See your live reaction lol . But it looks awesome
looks genuinely good
Dave, thx for offering some of them. A creator code is needed, without I cannot get the 50 entries. Thx for helping
Turn 1 in Monza will be interesting to see
I don't know... I'm already sceptical about stuff like the Feelbelt, but this looks like a way too thick protection mat or something like that for gaming seats... cannot imagine sitting on such a thing when sitting in my Trak Racer TR160 Rig... if there was a way to put it on the OUTSIDE of the seat, like on the back and underneath the bottom, not INSIDE which adds a considerable thickness and takes away the snug and sports car feeling of a GT-seat in a rig... I get it that this might be a cheaper and maybe even more effective kind of FFB compared to Buttkickers. But I don't want to have the feeling of sitting in a child safety seat while whirling a Porsche GT3 car around my favorite tracks.
Sorry if that might sound harsh, I don't mind if someone praises such a device and uses it with joy. I just can't imagine doing so myself in that case. But some people here already commented: This might be a thing for future sim rig seats fully integratet into the seat's cussions. Should be a doable thing, maybe also in a way that makes it possible to replace them if needed, just like the dull normal cussions on those seats already on the market. If there were such a seat for lets say 500-600€ instead of the app. 300€ being priced on standard sim rig seats, I might be interested. More interested in that, than let's say the O-Rouge seat with cooling. Which are basically fans blowing through special cussions letting air pass through better... but you could DIY this, surely very cost effective. In my opinion an airconditioning device is a better choice, since the avid sim racer not only suffers from 'swamp ass' as Will Ford likes to put it, but you're also sitting amidst a screen array being almost like a solarium. So the sweating track record breaking virtual racer needs air conditioning. Let seats do their real job: immerse you into the feeling of sitting in a race car. FFB is more welcome here, as an integrated feature, not a heavy thick mat ruining all your sophisticated calculations and tweakings in order to get your seat position right. (Not all of this is to be taking full serious, but I think you get what I want to express, hehe)
Think I'd have bought this had I not recently gone down the transducer DIY route
I wonder how well this would work on an office chair. I'm using a NLR wheelstand 2.0 with a basic office chair
Pretty good to be honest! I've your exact stand and tried the NLR HF8 on my office chair and it's great!
Just this weekend I've upgraded the stand purchasing the NLR Seat Addon, despite the more than average buy price.
But there aren't many other rig/stand which are so sturdy, expandable and capable of mounting castors for easy moving (I live in small flat).
Will buy castors this week, although not NLR but lockable heavy duty ones from Amazon, with square washers as the originals.
I'll probably spend half the money and a more sturdy build.
Not a fan of spending 40£ for 10 plastic castors on a 40kg rig!
@@TheMash84 is the seat addon easy to attach and take off when you want to fold the stand away when not in use?
About time this is a thing instead of more and more overpriced wheels with gimmicks, wheel tech peaked a long time ago.
I don't see anybody that reviewed this still using it.
do you still think it's worth a buy?
Think I will stick to my woojer vest, at least that gives directional audio and not all at once, again console users are restricted against full effect on pc
2nd UA-camr I heard saying that it’s like a buttkicker … I might consider getting one now
Would it be comfortable enough for someone with small back problems like my self?
This is the first product I am intrested to buy from Next level racing. I have been looking at buttkicker for a while but never got it. Have anyone tried it under the cloth in like a sparco seat? or will it even fit? GJ dave as allways
Hi Dave, looks great but I've just bought the Buttkicker Pro, in Oz that was about $500 all up. What is the power draw with the HF8?
Interesting, but I wish it like loaded certain sides based on going around a corner or something like that. Like, if it was smarter
Really would like the answer to the Question ⁉️ will this stay on your rig ?? Are you going to keep it there ?? I think that makes a difference! We trust what you say , if your keeping that on the rig then to me it's a worthwhile Purchase for me ! So , what's the answer !!! Thanks
Hi Dave.
Now you should do a Buttkicker Gamer Plus review... 😉
I've actually got one which I've yet to fit 👍
I've had one few months and it's great miss it now if it's not on
Dave, can you simulate the feel the rear locking up ?
I would try it Dave😊👍
Hi Dave, great review - What is the overall comfort of the pad to sit on please?
Hello dave, hope you are keeping well, have you set any goals for this year ?
Bit concerned it will get too warm , I'm using the woojer vest at the mo and that gets too warm after an hours use due to the vibration.
Hopefully they add wheel slip.
What do u think abt hf8 pairing with one hf8? A good budget pair? Versus 4 buttkickers? Hf8 on left right curbs. And buttkicker on gearshift and engine vibration?
Dave. PLEASE REVIEW THE USHAKE6
Why not have the ability to activate when TC or ABS kicks in or at least tire slip???
Oh noooo, I’m not going into that gleam-rabbit hole! This needs a warning Dave!
Thanks for the review. The big question, almost $300, is it worth it?
$399
@@stuartmarshall7099 $229 where I live
tried it for two days, it's of little use and it's really really uncomfortable! returned...
Thanks for the review! does it work on console as well?
Can you use VR with this easier than with the 3.5mm? Does the software let you run audio to VR headset and still give you a butt rumble?
I would assume you'd use the USB vs 3.5mm connected to the PC (and nothing on the headset), so yes. Unless I'm missing something. It looks quite good! BTW I just got into iRacing, and I'm hooked on VR. Time to upgrade the rig...
Hey Dave, does the Next Level Racing HF8 Haptic Gaming Pad allow for the use of a seat harness?
I have the Simlab seat as well. If I was to remove the padded seating and just sit on this.... Would this be comfortable? It would kinda deal with the fact that you no longer sit higher..
Not bad..i use like that.
I cant drive whitout a buttkicker, i use simhub (free) too set it up.
Ive set it up so i get Shift/curbs/ABS
It almost feels like cheating , u can really get much more precise braking when u feel the Threshold_limit and dont have too rely on visuel or the sound of your tires .
I dont see use for this HF8 when ive got a buttkicker
It’s butt kicker vs The HF8 …. Idk what to choose
I'm very curious about the comfort. Is it something that is 'not bothering you' when you are sitting in the rig for an hour or more? With other comparable products, that seemed to be a remark. People mentioned that you can feel 'pressure points', which is something i would not want. How is that with the Next Level Racing version?
Same here - thats a crucial thing for me too, so I'd also like to know
I couldn't feel anything at all regarding the motors. Yes it felt 'djfferent' but I put that down to it essentially adding another layer of padding to my seat. I did stints of 30 min plus and had no issues at all. It's actually quite soft 👍
@@davecamyt Thanks Dave, extra padding is always welcome anyway so I can deal with that. My worry was it would feel a bit like sitting on hard surfaces (I went through 3 seats before I found one soft enough!)
@@GripFuel if you were local you could have had a butchers. But you could be in Aus for all I know 😂
@@davecamyt Ha! I'm actually originally from your neck of the woods (managed to shake off the accent though!), but moved further south a few decades ago. Appreciate the offer though!
When accessing the NLR UK website there is a £ cost and a link to their UK sellers (e.g Maplin / Currys etc), but no-one seems to be stocking it yet in the UK, or even have any details of it on their individua websites?. Did NLR let you know when it'll be available here? Thanks....

It seems like a gimmick.
I need the help to know when I am sliding due to loss of traction.
I think the most important question is if it tells you when your wheel is spinning and starting to slide... Because that is the feedback that you get in a real car and not in a normal Sim... And would REALLY improve your feeling in the Sim..
Exactly, this is a gimmick only
@@chuckystang is there a device that sumulates it though?
@@wagnsprinter buttkicker, but Perhaps if Simhub could detect this NLR seat cushion it could as well? I don’t see why not. Just don’t use the NLR software. I mean I don’t use the Buttkicker software, same difference right
So do you recommend it over a buttkicker setup to feel grip loss and wheel lockup/ABS kicking and so on?
Yes I feel it much more with this than I did my buttkicker 👍
Interesting product but I have a different question - Dave, which fov do you use in iRacing, rFactor 2 and AMS2 (what are numbers)?
Check out a video I made a few days ago. It gives you my settings 👍
@@davecamyt oh, thanks, i missed some videos :(
Righto, Just purchased one, and its not that great. The software is severely limited and the effect is just a fast buzzing. Only 4 sliders for the game I tried and while the engine rev was an okay effect it blocked out anything else that might have been trying to come through.
You using it via the 3.5m jack? I said in the video I wouldn't recommend SIM racing using that method. Usb on the other hand is great 👍
@@davecamyt Nope. USB. 2 of the sliders for AMS2 were the revs and the rev limiter. Very limited. With the engine revs enabled I have no idea if the other effect I enabled(brake) was actioned or not. I assume it was and it was lost in the noise.
How is the latency, is it as bad as I've heard other reviewers? (ie delayed on / off haptics due to time for motors to spin up/down
@@adamfromabove84 The delay is there, I notice it when an effect should be a clunk but instead it gets a speeding up vibration effect. It's better on effects that are already in motion. That aside, I uninstalled the software it comes with and have it set up through Simhub. I can now access dozens of effects and assign them how I want and set up reponse curves. So it is much better then my initial reaction, But its still just a seat cover that goes buzz...
Not for me, but im sure the missus wouldn't mind one
Does this integrate with Simhub? I have a couple of existing bass shakers and would love to get this too but would want simhub integration to make it easier to use with the existing shakers

All you get is a rumble from the engine and not much else. I wouldn't sim race using it via the 3.5 jack 👍
Is it noisy? I live in an apartment and have neighbors below me. I tried the gamer pro2 buttkicker and I could image how it sounded to my neighbors and returned it the next day.
The best way to reduce vibrations is with mats under your rig. I've got my rig raised off the ground on some home made stands. It doesnt transmit much vibrations into the ground.
@@Shadowstormau I tried a few different things. I had 2” thick anti shock mats under it and still felt it was going through. We have wood floors.
@@OkiDingo it is terrible how easy noise goes through normal hollow floor beams to rooms below - I have a PC server with a few discs and it has some sort of dodgy noisy fan in it when it starts up, it sits on the floor of my office upstairs over downstairs hallway - the other day I started server up and it had its normal noisy PC fan vibrating, then was downstairs in hallway - i could not believe how much noise of this basic sound went through floor to hallway - was like a drill upstairs through floor - sounded even louder though floor than being in room - the wood amplifies the vibration. We've had feedback from users that the noise created the HF8 is minimal
It could be good in titles where it works, but compatibility is awful as only 10 games work with it. Even mainstream titles like Dirt Rally 2.0, WRC franchise games, ETS2 and ATS aren't compatible with the software unless you use the 3.5mm jack. 3 of my favourite sims, rFactor 2, Automobilista 1 and BeamNG don't work with it, either. I can use Simhub for all those titles and many more besides. I hope they expand the compatibility list or this is useless to quite a few people.
SIMHUB, supports it in all the SIMS.
Dave....why did you only try it in iRacing? I just bought this and like many others, found out it DOES NOT WORK WITH KUNOS GAMES. The software is pure shite.
